Contestants on the long-running reality series Survivor do whatever it takes to win the $1 million prize. Alone cast members venture into the wilderness with minimal supplies for a chance to go home with $500,000. But for Naked and Afraid participants, going on the long-running Discovery Channel survival show is all about the bragging rights.
Do ‘Naked and Afraid’ contestants win money? Matt Wright and Steven Lee Hall Jr. in ‘Naked and Afraid: Last One Standing’ | Discovery
Unlike many other reality shows, Naked and Afraid survivalists don’t sign up for the promise of a big payday. Those who manage to complete the show’s grueling 21-day survival challenge don’t win any prize money. The reward is simply knowing that you’ve been able to last for three weeks in the wild with no clothes or food, and only limited supplies (such as a knife or cooking pot).

Dual Survival has quickly become a fan favorite on the Discovery Channel, but this season fans are having a tough time believing that the duo of Ej Snyder and Jeff Zausch can be legitimate hosts. While tonight’s episode is going to feature Ej and Jeff being trapped by black Bears in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, there are still some questions surrounding the two (despite this amazing plot line). So far fans are a little wishy washy as to the hosting abilities of Ej and Jeff. Army combat veteran, Ej Snyder, and wilderness survivalist Jeff Zausch, are both former

Survivalist Jeff Zausch and army vet Ej Snyder head to South America in a double bill tonight on Dual Survival. The pair will face all manner of obstacles as they tackle the many challenges Brazil has to offer. They cross the barren grasslands of the Cerrado with no food or water, giving them a taste of just how hostile this region can be. In the second episode they head to the Araucaria forest, which straddles southern Brazil and northeastern Argentina. This mile-high region might be mainly subtropical and close to the ocean but it sees high snowfall during the winter. The...read more...

Former "Dual Survival" host Cody Lundin's toughest job was surviving his co-host, who threatened to kill him with all sorts of weapons ... according to a lawsuit he filed against Discovery. Lundin says producers made it look like he was losing it on set -- but according to the docs, his partner, Joe Teti, was the real menace. He says while shooting in Norway ... Teti threatened to "bury" him on a mountain while waving around an ice axe.

On Sunday, Bravo will debut “Real Housewives of Potomac,” the eighth installment in their highly successful reality TV franchise. The series comes from the production company True Entertainment, co-founded by Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh, who also serve as co-presidents and CEOs of Original Media, the company behind other unscripted hits like “Ink Master” and “Dual Survival.” “Inevitably we found people who were trying to be ‘Atlanta’-like,” Weinstock told TheWrap of the cast search. “And that always felt derivative. In Potomac, we came upon a world that we were not fully aware of, but was nevertheless distinct in its feeling,...

Last week, I watched with intrigue after 14 normal American men were dropped on a deserted island. I’m a major fan of survival programs (I also recap Discovery’s Naked and Afraid) and have spent many a night watching shows where man (and woman) tests his mettle against the elements. Who can resist the lure of Survivor, Dual Survival, Survivorman, or Bear Grylls’ prior reality competition series, Get Out Alive? I’m constantly amazed that people are able to endure such tough circumstances. And on The Island, we’re getting a gritty look at survival without the polish and production of most other Reality survival … Continue reading →

One of the stars of Discovery's "Dual Survival" injured or killed a dog on the set during the final episode ... this according to multiple sources connected with the production. Our sources say Joe Teti, a former Green Beret, was shooting one of the final scenes when some stray cats ran across the set ... apparently fleeing from a dog. We're told the dog actually got one of the cats in its jaws, and that's when Teti went after the canine.

Austin, Texas -- Maybe for the first time in his entertainment career, Miles Teller knows much of what he's "doing" for the next four or so years. He just boarded bank robber flick “Life and Times of the Stopwatch Gang" as producer and lead. Fresh off of Oscar season with "Whiplash," the 28-year-old actor headed right into promotions for "The Divergent Series: Insurgent," out tomorrow (March 20), the second movie in a four-film adaptation. His turn as Mister Fantastic in "The Fantastic Four" films will take him on a two-movie ride, at least. "Bleed for This" -- which will feature Teller portraying boxer Vinny Panzienza -- is out later this year, "Arms and the Dudes" is due 2016 and there are a few other flicks in the development hopper. Even for a schedule so busy, Teller looked at least like he was trying to relax, sinking into a wicker patio chair in...

On the wall of a tiny wood cabin outside Prescott, Arizona, hangs a large poster of Cody Lundin staring intensely with a thin half-smile. Below him is a quote: "Learn survival skills from an expert." Lundin was one of the stars of the Discovery Channel series Dual Survival for three and a half of the show's first four seasons, until he departed abruptly late last year. He has been a survival instructor, running his Aboriginal Living Skills School, since the early '90s. This cabin is ostensibly the school's store, though there's little for sale beyond...

Could the fourth season of "Dual Survival" be the end of the partnership between Cody Lundin and Joseph Teti? That's certainly what a new promo for Season 4 implies.
The above Zap2it-exclusive video teases that tensions are reaching an all-time high between the two survival veterans. Considering the pair will be tossed into hard-to-survive situations like the mangroves of Sri Lanka, the desert in Oman and the mountains of Norway, it's no wonder they're so stressed.

Discovery Channel is putting on a real life Hunger Games. At least that’s what the network’s new show, Survival Live (Wt) sounds like to me — without the killing, of course. Eight contestants will compete for 42 days in the wilderness on what the network is billing as the first-ever live broadcast survival show.
The network describes it as a, “24/7 real time, multi-platform viewing experience where viewers will play a large role in each survivalist’s success or failure. The survivalists struggle will be streamed live, day and night, from the moment they are abandoned into the remote wilderness with...

This makes us miss Bear Grylls… Among the new shows Discovery will announce later today at its Upfront presentation to advertisers in New York are two survival series in which clothing is not included. Each episode of Naked and Afraid will strand a new pair of strangers in one of the world’s harshest environments with no food, no water, no tools, and no clothes. “As their extreme survival skills are put to the test for 21 days, each couple must battle the elements, each other, and their own inner weakness to triumph over the terrain and their predicament,” the press release promises.

"Dual Survival" is back for a new season with "Dual Survival: Unbraided" and nothing is off the table, including pee drinking. Yep, pee drinking.
The one-hour special airs Tuesday, January 1 at 8 p.m. Est with Season 3 premiering at 9 p.m. Est and features Cody Lundin and Joseph Teti putting their survival skills to the test.
"Those who drink their pee, don't know what their doing," Lundin tells Teti in the clip above. "Urine is double the sodium of normal body saline."
However, despite Lundin's warnings, Teti still drinks his own pee. "I'm not doing this to stay dehydrate or hydrate myself, I'm doing this as a psychological edge just to get some wetness in my mouth and swallow a little bit."
“There is no question, Cody Lundin is one of the world's foremost experts in self-reliance and living off the land," French Horwitz, "Dual Survival" executive producer, said in a statement.

This Memorial Day weekend, you could head to the beach, have a barbecue, and spend quality time with your loved ones… or you could stay glued to your couch and watch 72 consecutive hours of television. Given some of the marathons planned, we won’t judge anyone who chooses Option B.
Here’s the best of what will air as we celebrate everyone’s favorite military-themed federal holiday. (Better luck next year, Veterans Day!) Whether you’re looking for classic flicks, absurdist comedy, garbage reality shows, or slightly less trashy reality shows, that miraculous box will have you covered. USA! USA!

Memorial Day 2011 is here and while we should all take time to thank a veteran and active servicemen and women, it also means for us TVphiles - lots of good programming. So either settle in with some popcorn or make sure your DVR is ready to go.
There are movie marathons. Syfy is busting out its greatest hits in the giant monster oeuvre on Friday, followed by "Star Trek" movies all weekend. TCM and AMC are showing nothing but military movies, including classics like "All Quiet on the Western Front," "From Here to Eternity" and "Patton."
If marathons are your thing, you've got everything from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who" to "House Hunters" and "How It's Made." And if you're a sports fan, while the NBA playoffs are on hiatus, you can still watch a ton of baseball, the 2011 French Open or the annual Memorial Day race the Indianapolis 500.

Tonight's the season finale of "Glee" which I suspect more of you are watching than admit it. I get that, while I've given up any hope of appearing cool or like I have good taste in television, I understand the instinct to protect oneself from the slings and arrows that come when you admit that you're still into (or at least regularly watching) a show that is widely regarded as terrible. It's a strange phenomena, there's shows I've been able to quit after a single bad episode, and there's shows that I stick with even though watching them gives me no real enjoyment anymore not even as train wrecks go (looking at you, "Grey's Anatomy"). And then there's the people who watch so that every so-so episode they can hop online and type as fast as their little fingers can manage that the show has obviously "jumped the shark" (a...

The Discovery Channel will dive into its 24th annual Shark Week on July 31 -- with a little help from "Saturday Night Live" regular Andy Samberg.
Samberg has been named Discovery's Chief Shark Officer for the programming stunt and will star in a special called "Shark City." He'll go diving in the Bahamas with a group of sharks that live off the coast of Nassau and assess each fish's quirks and feeding patterns.
New shows on tap for Shark Week 2011 are "Great White Invasion," about the seeming increase of great white shark sightings in coastal waters in Australia, South Africa and the United States; and "Jaws Comes Home," in which five great whites are tagged and followed on a 1,200-mile trip up and down the East Coast.
Other shows include a special featuring "Dual Survival" stars Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin; separate investigations of waves of shark attacks in South Africa...

Going through the television guide on clicker to watch TV today, got me wondering whether the Survival Reality Shows were going too far for the sake of entertainment. Television offers many different survival type reality programs. They claim that by watching the star of the show endure hardships and challenges, viewers can learn how to survive in the wilderness with few resources. These lessons are certainly entertaining, and most of the advice they offer is good. However, the average viewer should never attempt some of the techniques that are taught.
