Yes, But You Don't Go!
boblipton18 November 2022
Ex-wife Lena Malena wants her alimony, but Taylor Holmes pleads poverty. So she moves in on him and current wife Natalie Moorhead.

This spicy pre-code short stars two leads who are definitely not comics, but who play their roles straight, if a little stagily. Miss Moorhead specialized in women of the world in this era, and Holmes was largely a stage actor, but with a sizable movie filmography, culminating in doing the voice for Aurora's father in Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY the year he died. Both demonstrate themselves quite up on how to get a laugh without offering a pratfall.0

John T. Murray, Sidney Miller, and Lloyd Ingraham also appear.

An ex-wife moves in with her ex-husband and his new wife!

"Git Along Little Wifie" is a short comedy from Educational Pictures which stars the real life married couple, Taylor Holmes and Natalie Morehead. While neither one is especially known for comedy, they give it their best in the movie released through Fox Films.

An ex-wife has brought her ex-husband to court because he's been missing his alimony payments. He pleads poverty but the judge isn't hearing any of that and so he plans on sending him to jail...she decides instead to move in with her ex and his new wife! That sure sounds like it's going to work out well!! As for her, the ex-wife's plan is to be so awful and such a nuisance that he'll find the money somewhere to pay her to leave. But her plan backfires and chaos ensues when he thinks he's accidentally poisoned her!

The acting is, at times, way over the top. Holmes, in particular, looks as if he's acting on stage...really overdoing it at times. I think he was supposed to do that...though it certainly isn't very enjoyable. However, the writing wasn't bad and it did end VERY well...so I do recommend you try it in spite of a few shortcomings.

By the way, this film was remade a few years later as "Alimony Aches" with Andy Clyde. I haven't seen it and am not sure if it's available anywhere. It certainly is not on YouTube, though "Git Along Little Wifie" is.
