[Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Better Call Saul” Season 6, Episode 3, “Rock and Hard Place.”]
In hindsight, the phone call was the clincher. This is a world where emotional phone conversations with family members can be death sentences in their own way. Just ask Hank Schrader.
As soon as Nacho (Michael Mando) hangs up the phone to his father, his fate is effectively set. Caught in a cartel tug-of-war between rival factions each eager to see him suffer, Nacho secures a few extra hours of freedom and (presumably) his father’s safety by agreeing to close off some of Gus’ (Giancarlo Esposito) loose ends with Don Hector (Mark Margolis). After evading capture in the desert last week, Nacho agrees to point the finger elsewhere for the Lalo (Tony Dalton) compound raid right before receiving a swift, painless desert sniper execution.
Getting to that point is one last series of trials for Nacho that’s all the character’s strengths in microcosm.

Exclusive: Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival (October 23-30), the Middle East’s first sizeable Covid-era physical film event, has set Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring) as jury president.
Gérard Depardieu will receive the festival’s Career Achievement Award and actor Said Taghmaoui (La Haine) will received the Omar Sharif Award.
Hannibal Rising and Emperor director Webber told us: “It has been a difficult year for many and especially those of us in the film industry, yet it is important to remember that it is our work that has been keeping so many people entertained, inspired and engaged as they were trapped in their homes or struggling during the biggest pandemic in living memory.
“Therefore it’s a great delight and a privilege to be invited to be president of the jury at El Gouna Film Festival, a festival that will celebrate the importance of film at this crucial time.

A prominent member of the French New Wave, often credited as the French Hitchcock, director Claude Chabrol’s first few features were internationally renowned, seminal works of the movement. Taking home the top prize out of Locarno for Le Beau Serge (1958) and then Berlin with The Cousins (1959), his 1960 Les Bonnes Femmes is a cornerstone alongside the likes of Truffaut’s The 400 Blows (1959) and Godard’s Breathless (1960). But much of Chabrol’s output until the late 1960s, when Les Biches (1968) became a notorious hit, has languished in obscurity.
Revisiting his 1962 title The Third Lover (L’Oeil Du Malin) finds Chabrol navigating similar territories and themes he would eventually be renowned for—jealous lovers, infidelity and murder.…...

“You were a lawyer,” someone snarks to Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) in the opening scenes of the first full trailer for the fourth season of the hit AMC series “Better Call Saul,” hitting the disgraced professional where it hurts. Indeed, Jimmy used to be a lawyer, and he’s hellbent on working his way back to gainful employment of the law-abiding variety, just as long as he can make his way through the next ten months and not kick up too much of a fuss while doing it.
But this is, of course, Jimmy McGill, Aka Slippin’ Jimmy and, as we all know, our eventual Saul Goodman. Sticking to the script and abiding by the rules aren’t exactly the way he does things. Still, this first full trailer for the new season of the show hits that he’s going to try, at least for a bit. After all,...
