Unlike some of the previous episodes, Trial and Error gets back into good science fiction. Young is having dreams in which Destiny is destroyed, regardless of what he does. Young responds by going into depression and alcohol abuse. Eli and Rush figure out that it's Destiny testing Young's ability to lead by putting him in a no-win scenario. It's a test he's on the verge of failing before LT Scott gives him a talking-to.
Young emerges from the crevasse he's created for himself and resumes his duties as commander, even though he knows his decisions weigh mightily on his shoulders. The very act of doing so returns Destiny on its journey.
There are a couple of space battles in this episode (neither of which turn out well for the crew or the ship), which is what we expect from a sci-fi action thriller.
