Mads Mikkelsen To Lead New Action Thriller 'Sirius' From Oscar-Winning 'Dunkirk' Editor
Image
Mads Mikkelsen has found his next project, and it's going to be an icy time at the theater. No stranger to action films, Mikkelsen will return to the genre in an upcoming project that sounds perfect for the Danish actor. The Hannibal star has been cast in Sirius, an upcoming thriller from one of the most acclaimed editors of our lifetime.

Lee Smith, the Academy Award-winning editor behind Dunkirk, makes his directorial debut in Sirius, an upcoming action film that will have Mikkelsen in the lead role. The film is described as "a gripping Arctic action-thriller inspired by the real-life Sirius Patrol, the Danish special forces unit charged with defending Greenland’s 8,700-mile frozen coastline." Neon International will be shopping the foreign distribution rights for Sirius at the Cannes Film Festival. Now in pre-production, Smith will direct the film based on a screenplay by Tony Mosher.

In addition to Dunkirk,...

The Best Movies Based On 'Unfilmable' Books
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The book-to-screen adaptation is a tried and true formula that has led to some of the best movies of all time, like "Jurassic Park" and "The Wizard of Oz," which unknowingly paved the way for the success of "Wicked." However, not all adaptations receive the same praise. Movies like "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and the messy adaptation of "The Dark Tower" have been criticized for glossing over too many details. This proves that not all books, no matter how easy they might seem to adapt were meant for the big screen.

While some books are destined for a cinematic future, others have been deemed unfilmable. Perhaps a plot relies too heavily on mystical beings, sometimes tales are controversial and unsettling, which could turn away moviegoers. It's a label that some filmmakers walk away from, while others...

Tom Hiddleston Has a Moment With Annalise Basso in New ‘Life of Chuck’ Image
Image
Although her role as Janice Haliday in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck will involve plenty of dancing, the latest still released of Annalise Basso looks more serious than carefree. In it, Basso’s Janice stands opposite Tom Hiddleston’s titular character, Chuck Krantz, and the pair appears to be embroiled in a serious conversation. Although we can’t tell what they’re chatting about, it looks like Janice’s words are leaving a lasting mark on Chuck and vice versa, with each character deeply connected and attentive to what the other is saying.

The Life of Chuck will see its filmmaker, Flanagan, move away from his typical vein of horror and step into something else — something more existential yet still topped with a twist of the supernatural. It’s also a change for author Stephen King, who wrote the short story on which Flanagan’s production is based.

Jamie Flanagan
Writer Jamie Flanagan, whose brother happens to be genre regular Mike Flanagan, has worked as a writer on the TV shows The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, The Fall of the House of Usher, Creepshow, and Hysteria!, and along the way they won a Bram Stoker Award for writing episode 6 of Midnight Mass. Now, Deadline reports that Jamie Flanagan has their first two horror novels to Saga Press, “in an exclusive submission, for World translation rights via Lane Heymont at the Tobias Literary Agency. Saga Press is an imprint of Simon & Schuster known for expertise in the horror genre.”

Flanagan’s first novel has the working title Deserters and is set in post-World War II Italy, following two priests as they traverse the countryside in search of lost souls, only to find their mission descend into horror. The second novel doesn’t have a title yet,...

The Life Of Chuck | Full trailer lands
Mike Flanagan
Mike Flanagan’s upcoming take on the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck has a new trailer – and an August UK release date.

Off the back of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be something really rather good. The film won TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, leading to buzz that the film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, given that 12 of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.

That ultimately wouldn’t happen because the film’s US distributor Neon – presumably busy running a campaign to get Sean Baker’s Anora a Best Picture Oscar – elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot. While that date doesn’t suggest that Neon thinks The Life Of Chuck...

The Life of Chuck trailer: Mike Flanagan’s new Stephen King movie reaches theatres in June
Tom Hiddleston in A Vida de Chuck (2024)
The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing series adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” A teaser trailer dropped online a month ago, now a full trailer has arrived and you can watch it in the embed above!

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death...

Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ Brings Fresh Blood to Prime Video
Image
Stephen King’s classic tale of telekinetic terror is making a comeback, and this time it’s landing on Prime Video. The streaming service has given the green light to an eight-episode series adapting ‘Carrie,’ with horror maestro Mike Flanagan at the helm. He’s no stranger to King’s world, having already tackled projects like ‘Gerald’s Game’ and ‘Doctor Sleep.’ Now, he’s diving into the story of a shy high schooler with a knack for moving things with her mind—and a prom night no one will forget.

Flanagan’s take promises a modern twist on the 1974 novel that put King on the map. The story follows Carrie White, a girl raised in isolation by her overbearing, religious mother. After losing her father, she’s thrown into the chaos of high school, where bullying and strange powers start to bubble up.

It’s a setup that’s been...

Today's a Bloody Good Day for Stephen King Fans
Image
A new generation of Stephen King fans are about to experience Carrie. Prime Video has officially greenlit a new adaptation of the author's acclaimed horror novel.

Per Deadline, the streamer greenlighting Carrie shouldn't be seen as too surprising considering that casting has already begun for the series. Earlier this week, it was reported that relative newcomer Summer H. Howell was close to signing a deal to star in the series as its title character, Carrie White. While Howell's acting credits are sparse, she has appeared in several horror films, notably 2013's Cult of Chucky and 2020's Hunter Hunter. Deadline also reports that Siena Agudong is also being eyed to play Carrie's nemesis, Sue Snell. Agudong is best known for playing a young Mia Toretto in F9 (2021) and for her main roles in Netflix's live-action Resident Evil series and the Kevin Smith film The 4:30 Movie.

“Resident Evil” Actress Siena Agudong Cast as Sue Snell in Mike Flanagan’s “Carrie” Adaptation
Image
Hot on the heels of the news that Summer H. Howell is nearing a deal to star in Mike Flanagan‘s “Carrie,” Variety has learned that Siena Agudong has been cast as Sue Snell.

The Amazon series is described as “a bold and timely reimagining” of Stephen King’s 1974 novel, with Flanagan serving as writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer.

Misfit high schooler Carrie White has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

Sue is a popular teen who initially joins in bullying Carrie but later tries to befriend her. The role was played by Amy Irving in 1976, Kandyse McClure in 2002, and Gabriella Wilde in 2013.

Filming is expected to begin in Vancouver as early as next month,...

Mike Flanagan's Carrie series eyes Chucky star for lead role
Image
Mike Flanagan has his hands full with Stephen King adaptations between his upcoming movie The Life of Chuck and the two he has in development: Carrie and The Dark Tower. We don't have much new info about The Dark Tower yet, but a new exclusive from Variety suggests casting has found its Carrie White in Child's Play star Summer H. Howell.

The outlet says a deal is close to being finalized, though none of the people directly involved have responded to requests for comment.

Flanagan's take on Carrie has been in development since October 2024. Amazon hasn't formally ordered the show into a series, but if Howell is cast, then an official pickup is likely to follow. The series is based on King's iconic 1974 novel, most famously adapted for the Oscar-nominated 1976 movie starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

Howell is a 20-year-old actress who has already appeared in several genre films and horror projects,...

Mike Flanagan's 'Carrie' Reboot Series Casts Summer H. Howell as Lead
Image
Acclaimed horror visionary Mike Flanagan, fresh off his upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck, will tackle another iconic work from the master of horror: Carrie. Flanagan is slated to develop King's 1974 novel into a miniseries for Amazon. News of Flanagan's Carrie adaptation circulated in October, and now, according to a report from Variety, it appears a lead actress may have been found. Summer H. Howell is reportedly in negotiations to portray the role of Carrie White. While Amazon has yet to greenlight the project to series formally, it's expected that an official order is coming.

According to the series logline, Carrie will be a "bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. Image
Mike Flanagan is set to re-team with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie, and the title role has now been cast.

Despite rumors that Hereditary star Milly Shapiro was in negotiations to play the lead, Variety is reporting that Summer H. Howell is "nearing a deal" to play troubled telekinetic teen Carrie White.

We had heard that Samantha Sloyan was being eyed to play Carrie's mother, Margaret White, but there's no mention of the character at all in this report.

At 20 years old, Howell is already something of a horror vet, having appeared in Child’s Play franchise films Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, as well as Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor.

The synopsis for this new adaptation reads: "A bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has...

The adaptation came from Neon, with Osgood Perkins at the helm. The Monkey premiered in theaters on Feb 21, based on King's short story of the same name, but instead of a serious adaptation, Perkins decided to turn it into a black comedy. Image
If there’s one thing that’s as prolific as horror author Stephen King himself, it’s the world of Stephen King adaptations. But that doesn’t mean 2025 will take it easy on the King adaptations.

The year is packed with adaptations in film and series form. Here are six upcoming Stephen King adaptations arriving in 2025.

Image
The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Neon has released a new poster of The Life of Chuck, which evokes a mysterious, but beautiful journey into an introspection of life.

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

Hereditary Star Milly Shapiro Reportedly In Talks To Play Carrie In Mike Flanagan's Streaming Adaptation
Image
Last October, we got word that Mike Flanagan is set to re-team with Stephen King for a new small-screen adaptation of the legendary's author's first novel, Carrie, and we may now know who is in talks to play the lead roles.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Hereditary star Milly Shapiro is in negotiations to play the title role of Carrie, with Samantha Sloyan eyed to play the tormented teen's mother, Margaret White.

Shapiro played Charlie Graham in Ari Aster's Hereditary, and a key scene involving the character will surely go down as one of the most shocking moments in horror movie history.

Flanagan and King - who recently collaborated on the upcoming The Life of Chuck - are developing the supernatural coming-of-rage tale as an eight-episode series for Amazon, with Flanagan on board as showrunner and exec producer.

Brian De Palma's 1976 take on the book is widely viewed...

Why Stephen King Had To Give Up On A Sequel To A Cult Favorite Vampire Movie
Image
In 1988, a horror anthology titled "Prime Evil: New Stories by the Masters of Modern Horror" was published, where most of the featured short stories were original to the collection. Many gripping stories were a part of this anthology, including Peter Straub's heartbreakingly poignant "The Juniper Tree" and Clive Barker's overlooked, introspective "Coming to Grief." But a late '80s horror anthology is incomplete without Stephen King, and sure enough, his horror short story "The Night Flier" graced the pages of this collection. King's writing in this super short, yet effective story is a tad different than his usual style: it is more chaotic without a method to ground it, but this ends up complimenting the fantastical nature of the story. After all, "The Night Flier" is a vampire tale, with King exclusively exploring tropes associated with this sub-genre.

Vampires don't feature as prominently in King's work as compared to,...

Darren Aronofosky’s Next Horror Loading: Netflix Confirms Stephen King Adaptation of ‘Cujo’
Image
Stephen King’s Cujo is set to be adapted by Netflix, potentially with Darren Aronofsky as the director. The 1981 novel tells a chilling story about a mother and her son surrounded by horror, with their chances of survival growing dim as the plot unfolds. With Aronofsky in discussions with Netflix, this classic tale will soon come to life on screen.

Aronofsky’s knack for crafting psychological thrillers throughout his career and Netflix’s obsession with adapting Stephen King’s work sound like a match made in heaven. For those who have been waiting for a horror tale, Cujo will serve it right into their plates, evoking all sorts of harrowing emotions one might not be prepared for. This will also mark Aronofsky’s first feature on a streaming platform.

Stephen King's 'Thinner' Is a Streaming Success Almost 30 Years After Release
Image
One of the most panned horror movies based on the works of seminal author Stephen King has found surprise success on free streaming. Despite the quality of the source material, the films based on the works of horror author Stephen King are not always great. The big screen has hosted plenty of masterpieces like The Shining, Stand by Me, and The Shawshank Redemption, but his name is not exactly equivalent to guaranteed success. Cell, The Dark Tower and Riding the Bullet are a few which failed to earn acclaim. And, in the middle ground, where the most divisive movies remain, you will find Thinner.

Thinner, the body horror film based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, has suddenly become a hit on the streaming platform Tubi, a.k.a. one of the few streamers that doesn't require you to pay a single penny or even register.

The directors of Novocainehave a completed script for the Stephen King novel Eyes of the Dragon. The book was published in 1984 and was written as a fairytale for King's daughter. While not one of the main entries in King's Dark Tower series, it shares similarities, including names like King Roland the Good, and his advisor, the wizard Flagg, compared to Roland Deschain and Randall Flagg. New Stephen King Adaptation Enters Top 10 Box Office Hits For The Author, Surpassing Classics Like The Shining & Stand By Me
Image
When it comes to authors who have had their works adapted into major feature films, Stephen King has few equals. 1976's Carrie from director Brian De Palma marks the first of the author's works to get the big-screen treatment, and it paved the way for dozens more in the decades that followed. Stanbley Kubrick's The Shining was released in 1980 and now stands as one of the most iconic and beloved adaptations of King's work, even if the author himself infamously doesn't care for it.

Rob Reiner's Stand By Me hit theaters in 1986, marking the first non-horror King adaptation. It would ultimately be followed by movies like The Running Man (1987), Misery (1990), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and The Green Mile (1999). More than two decades later, new King movies continue to release at a regular cadence, including titles like Gerald's Game (2017), Pet Sematary (2019), Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022), The Boogeyman (2023), and Salem's Lot (2024). Netflix is making a new Cujo adaptation
Image
Netflix is preparing to make another Stephen King adaptation! According to a new Deadline exclusive, the streamer has finalized a deal to adapt King's novel Cujo into a new feature film with Roy Lee set to produce.

Lee is a well-known horror movie producer, having produced hit movies like Barbarian, Strange Darling, Companion, The Ring, and more. He's also producing the upcoming films Weapons and Until Dawn. But most notably, Lee has produced multiple King projects such as Doctor Sleep, Salem's Lot, It, It: Chapter Two, and The Stand. And Netflix has released a few adaptations, too, between Gerald's Game, 1922, and In the Tall Grass, so Lee and Netflix working together makes a lot of sense.

First published in 1981, Cujo is King's novel about a once sweet Saint Bernard who gets bit by a bat and turns rabid. From there, the massive animal goes on a rampage, killing multiple people throughout the book.

Stephen King is easily one of the most prolific authors, whose novels are constantly being optioned to become films, limited series, or TV series. Some of his stories have been adapted several times.

The horror author has penned many terrifying stories. With a series of upcoming projects, one of his best stories will receive a brand-new adaptation. Per Deadline, Netflix has made a new deal to adapt King's 1981 novel Cujo into a new feature film.

The only name attached to the project is Roy Lee. There is no cast, writers, or director, but Lee is a King veteran. The famous producer, who has a long list of horror films under his belt, has worked on several other King adaptations, most famously the 2017 adaptation of It and its 2019 sequel, It Chapter Two, as well as Max's new take on Salem's Lot in 2024. Aside from Cujo, he will also produce the upcoming...

Tom Hiddleston in A Vida de Chuck (2024)
The Life of Chuck: Mike Flanagan’s new Stephen King movie unveils a teaser poster
Tom Hiddleston in A Vida de Chuck (2024)
The upcoming film The Life of Chuck (which Neon will be giving a theatrical release on June 6th) is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” We’re still waiting to see a trailer for this one, but today a teaser poster has been unveiled and can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse,...

10 Worst Stephen King Endings, Ranked
Image
More than one wiseguy writer has uttered some variant on, "It's the journey, not the destination," but let's be honest: If you trek a thousand miles through some of the most beautiful, strange, and intriguing landscapes on Earth only to end up at a Burger King, you may wonder why you've endured so much for a lukewarm box of chicken fries. Sticking the landing is a nightmare for every creator, but not everyone can take the occasional wet plop with aplomb like Stephen King can. King is an endurance runner of a writer, and no matter the ending, he still gets us to enjoy our journey with him. That's one of his biggest skills, and it's also the one that always gets us lining up for his next book.

King will also be the first to admit when the ending gets away from him, either from some late game writer's block,...

Why Matthew McConaughey Rejected Marvel For A Disastrous Stephen King Adaptation
Image
The mid-2010s were a great time for Matthew McConaughey, who found himself gaining a newfound level of respect as an actor for his one-two punch of "True Detective" and "Interstellar" in 2014. The executives over at Marvel seemed to take note of The McConaissance, which is why they asked him to join the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2." He would've played Star Lord's father, Ego, and we're sure he would've done a great job at it.

But McConaughey declined the offer, opting instead to star in "The Dark Tower," a fantasy movie that also came out in 2017. Whereas "Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2" was a big critical/box office success, this movie was a total flop. Fans of the book it was adapting ("The Gunslinger") hated it, critics hated it, and regular viewers found it forgettable. The film made back its budget at the box office, but...

The Stephen King Film That Two Late Horror Legends Couldn't Adapt
Image
Sometimes, when it comes to adapting Stephen King's novels for film or television, unmade is better.

There have been plenty of triumphs and many wipeouts, but the ones that sting the most tend to be the adaptations that bring a paucity of vision to his most expansive works. There have been two miniseries made out of King's post-apocalyptic masterpiece "The Stand," but they fell well short due to either budget constraints and/or simple timidity. If you're going to take on a book that's so celebrated and massive, why start from a place where you know you'll be cutting corners? It's encouraging to know that a major filmmaker like James Wan, who can secure a substantial budget due to his blockbuster success with franchises like "The Conjuring" and "The Fast and the Furious," wants to take a crack at "The Stand," but the material is so tainted at this...

Oscar Winning Writer Akiva Goldsman Tapped to Helm Famous Irwin Allen Sci-Fi Series
Image
When Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman isn't thinking about the ongoing battle of the making of Constantine 2 or the epic follow-up to I Am Legend's alternate ending, the acclaimed writer and director has had his mind on the world of legendary '60s sci-fi. Irwin Allen was behind the eclectic retro-futuristic shows like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of Giants, and The Time Tunnel, which happen to be the three shows that Legendary Television has hired Goldsman to recreate for a modern audience.

While it may sound odd that the same visionary writer that brought fans both the moving drama Cinderella Man and the goofy comic book film Batman Forever is now working on a re-imagined retro sci-fi TV universe, Goldsman has always had a diverse portfolio. He has worked on a variety of projects, like the Best Picture winner A Beautiful Mindand the hit...

A Wild Stephen King Fan Theory Ties His Work To A Beloved Childhood Classic
Image
You tend to notice a lot of familiar names, places, and events throughout the work of Stephen King, and that's by design. The horror maestro has carefully constructed a universe that ties most of his iconographies within the same plane of existence, especially if they involve the words "Castle Rock" or "The Dark Tower." In this case, that kind of interconnectivity also presents an opportunity for fans to impart their own head canon not just with King landmarks, but other pop culture mainstays as well.

In today's course of internet fan theory, telekinesis gone wrong is the name of the game. We're gonna be looking at one that attempts to merge King's book "Carrie," a tale about the ultimate horror prom queen, with the Roald Dahl novel "Matilda," a story about an inquisitive young girl whose abilities don't lead to quite as much bloodshed. One Redditor has claimed the two...

Stephen King confirms Mike Flanagan’s The Dark Tower TV adaptation is still happening
Mike Flanagan
Mike Flanagan’s next Stephen King adaptation, The Dark Tower, is still in the works as confirmed by King himself.

Mike Flanagan’s TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has been in the works since 2022 but updates on the project have been slim. Some of us have been wondering whether it was even happening anymore. The last time we had an official update on it, Amazon boss Vernon Sanders assured his company is “passionate” about it and having conversations with Flanagan on a weekly basis.

Thankfully, King himself confirmed to IGN that The Dark Tower is still alive.

“All I can say is, it’s happening,” King told the outlet during an interview about the latest adaptation of his work, The Monkey.

“I am writing stuff now, and I think that’s all I want to say, because the next thing you know, I’ll stir up...

IGN has shared King's recent social post, along with one from Flanagan, too, that confirms as such. It sounds like the outlet is following up with King's reps to gain more clarity on his comments (featured in the article below)

It has been a long time since we've received any substantial new updates on the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's beloved series The Dark Tower, but according to a new exclusive, it sounds like the wait will be more than worth it.

IGN reports that the upcoming show, which Mike Flanagan is developing for Amazon, will "prioritize faithfulness." And what better way to do that than by having the creator himself on board?

Stephen King Is Not Contributing to Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Dark Tower’ Adaptation [Update]
Image
Update: Stephen King clarified via Bluesky that he is not writing for Mike Flanagan’s The Dark Tower series.

Stephen King is writing for Mike Flanagan‘s adaptation of his magnum opus, The Dark Tower.

“All I can say is it’s happening,” King revealed at IGN Fan Fest when asked if he’d be interested in contributing new material to the adaptation.

“I am writing stuff now and I think that’s all I want to say, because the next thing you know I’ll stir up a bunch of stuff I don’t necessarily want to stir up yet. I’m in process right now, and to say too much feels like a jinx.”

King previously wrote a new coda for The Stand miniseries in 2020.

Flanagan revealed in 2022 that his Intrepid Pictures acquired the rights The Dark Tower, which has been in development since. The filmmaker views it...

Stephen King Doesn’t Want To Say Too Much To Not “Jinx” His Next Movie That Can Easily Rival Harry Potter

It is always nice to see King in action. Stephen King’s stories, that is. The 77-year-old writer has given us many stories worth cherishing. And many movies as well. The Shining, Doctor Sleep, and It. The list keeps going on and on.

His stories are far from done though. The Monkey is ready to take the world by storm. And the next big King project is in the works, with Mike Flanagan working on The Dark Tower. And the hype is unreal. Even the author is not ready to jinx it.

Mike Flanagan has something great in the pipeline The Monkey is the latest project based on Stephen King’s works || Neon

The Monkey has already shaken many people up. A story that revolves around a toy monkey is all set to send chills up the viewers’ spine. Starring the likes of Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Oz Perkins...

Stephen King Is Writing Material For Mike Flanagan's The Dark Tower Series
Image
Update: In a message on Blue Sky, Stephen King posted "Contrary to the Internet (which usually is never wrong), I am Not writing for Mike Flanagan's Dark Tower." Whether this story is the result of King misspeaking or the outlets present at the event misunderstanding the quote remains to be determined. For now, we'll take King's word for it. Our original story follows below.

Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series of books is generally considered by fans to be the author's magnum opus. Stretching over seven novels and a novella, it's a wild sprawl that has stymied many talented screenwriters who've attempted to adapt it to film and/or television. Obviously, with that much material, a streaming series would make the most sense, but because a good deal of the saga is cinematic in scope, writers and directors keep dreaming of a way to bring it to the big screen.

The Monkey Proves Stephen King Is Box Office Gold - In The Right Hands
Image
It was another win for Neon and director Oz Perkins this past weekend as "The Monkey" absolutely killed it at the box office. Based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, Perkins' latest collected $14 million in its debut domestically, placing in second just behind "Captain America: Brave New World," ($28.2 million), with Marvel's latest collapsing in its second weekend. Meanwhile, Neon and Perkins have reason to pop champagne.

Produced for around $10 million, even before a single dollar from overseas is counted, this gory horror-comedy had been set up for success right out of the gate. "The Monkey" has been met with mixed-to-positive reviews which could impact its ability to endure beyond opening weekend. Even so, that low production cost acts as an insurance policy. This now ranks as Neon's second-biggest opening weekend ever, trailing only Perkins' own "Longlegs" from last year, which opened to $22.4 million en route to a $127 million global finish.

Mike Flanagan’s ‘Dark Tower’ Series Just Got an Unbelievable Update From Stephen King

Not only will King be working alongside Flanagan on the series, but he’s going to have a hand in penning it, giving us further hope that the story will finally get the proper on-screen telling that it deserves. While fielding questions at a roundtable interview to boost the promotion of Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey, King told those at the IGN Fan Fest 2025 that he was already working on the script, but that he still wanted to keep things mysterious, sharing,...

Stephen King Writing Mike Flanagan's 'The Dark Tower' TV Adaptation
Image
Stephen Kingis staying busy these days. Between preparing for the release of his latest novel Never Flinch, creating a Hansel and Gretel picture book, and basking in the booming success of the latest adaptation of his work, Osgood Perkins' The Monkey, it's hard to believe that the best-selling author could find the time to be more involved more adaptations. However, it seems that The Life of Chuck director Mike Flanagan has enticed the writer to be more directly involved in the upcoming small screen version of one of his greatest novels. If the project is enough to get King excited, fans should be brimming with enthusiasm for Flanagan's bold undertaking.

The Gerald's Game director has been working on a series adaptation of King's longest-running novel series, The Dark Tower books. Notorious for its failed movie adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, The Dark Tower books could only make sense...

'It's Happening': Stephen King Confirms He's Involved in Writing for Mike Flanagan's The Dark Tower Series
Image
Stephen King is one of the most prolific writers, and not only has he penned tens of novels, short stories, and novellas, but his works have been adapted into many films and TV series. Some of them have been adapted more than once, and there's a new adaptation of The Dark Tower on the way.

Many King fans would love to forget the 2017 adaptation of the sci-fi western ever existed, as the movie was a major box office flop and barely touched upon the complex universe the author created in his book series. Although it starred Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, the movie was a big disappointment, but fans will get a chance of a more accurate adaptation in the future, with horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan developing a TV series for Prime Video. In a new interview with IGN, King confirmed he is writing for the upcoming series.

Stephen King Joins Mike Flanagan’s The Dark Tower Adaptation: ‘It’s Happening’
Image
Mike Flanagan is moving forward with his adaptation of The Dark Tower, one of Stephen King’s most beloved fantasy series. Flanagan, known for his work on Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, has reassured fans that his version will closely follow the books. Now, he has an even stronger connection to King’s world—Stephen King himself has confirmed he’s directly involved in the project.

At IGN Fan Fest 2025, King was asked if he would contribute new material to the adaptation, similar to what he did for The Stand TV series in 2020. King responded, “All I can say is it’s happening. I am writing stuff now… I’m in process right now, and to say too much feels like a jinx.”

King first started writing The Dark Tower series back in 1970, and the books have become a massive part of his literary universe. While it’s unclear exactly...

Looking Back on 6 of Stephen King’s Scariest Cursed Objects Ahead of ‘The Monkey’
Image
Presented by Neon’s The Monkey, Bloody Disgusting is celebrating this Friday’s release of Osgood Perkins’ highly anticipated horror with Stephen King Week. Yesterday, Jenn Adams talked King’s creepy critters, and today, Luiz H. C. catalogues his cursed objects.

There’s a classic Family Guy cut-away gag where author Stephen King pitches his 307th horror book to an editor, with the writer coming up with an absurd story about a killer lamp on the spot after looking at the objects on the editor’s desk. While this joke was clearly meant to be a jab at the author’s prolific output, I think most fans would agree that, if the King of Horror ever chose to write a book about a lamp monster, it’d be one hell of a scary lamp!

After all, King’s nearly-six-decade-long career has gifted us with countless examples of seemingly inanimate items that harbor supernatural secrets.

Netflix Users Are Obsessed With A Mind-Bending 2019 Sci-Fi Thriller
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Netflix is once again turning a former theatrical flop into a streaming hit. 2019's "Don't Let Go," which stars Oscar nominee David Oyelowo ("Selma") and Storm Reid ("A Wrinkle in Time"), has found its audience more than five years after it failed to catch on during its original release. This is an interesting case where success may well be better late than never.

"Don't Let Go" has been rising through Netflix's top 10 most-watched movies list as of late and is currently sitting at number four on the streamer's charts, per FlixPatrol. It's even trending above other Netflix originals such as "Kinda Pregnant" and "Honeymoon Crasher." Not bad for a movie with a $5 million budget that made only $5 million at the box office in late summer 2019. But that's the power of Netflix, which generates more revenue than the entire global box office combined.
