- Several women wear tight/revealing outfits. In one scene, a man is caught with only a towel around his waist. In another scene, a woman lies down on a man's bed and, barely covered by a sheet, removes her clothing. We see her bare shoulders. It is clearly stated that they do not have sex. A woman says she is seeing a married man. She also gets pregnant while single. A woman accuses a doctor (falsely) of rape, and there is mention of "private parts".

- In one scene a doctor is preparing to perform an abortion for a single woman.

- A robbery in a bar involves gunshots, fighting, and a bloody injury. A mentally-ill murderer intends to kill a woman with a knife. A man is tackled, hitting his head, leading to a puddle of blood and his death.

- One main character is repeatedly drunk, leading to hurtful behavior. Other characters drink. Another main character is a bartender and we see him pouring drinks.

- There is an attempted robbery in a bar, with gunshots aimed at a sympathetic character. There is an extended scene in which a man is planning to kill a woman with a knife. Her fear is shown intensely. A driver asleep at the wheel leads to a runaway dump truck nearly running over a young child and crashing into several things. A single mother abandons her young child.
