If you want to see this movie to learn the history of the Russian mafia you'll be disappointed (most probably you'll have to do the hard work of reading a book on that subject).
This movie is mostly talks with 3 mobsters, where they tell you about their personal history (as you might expect they mostly talk about their good deeds), their aspirations (always good in nature by the way) and their views on themselves (surprisingly good) & their role in Russia (as you might expect Russia is benefiting from their deeds). In a bit more serious tone this movie let you as a viewer have a short window into the head of a mobster that will not hesitate to kill you if you'll call him some bad name in front of his friends and still consider himself as a good person. These people have a very different state of mind then most people in the western society.
So this is more of a sociology movie rather then history & I think that as a great experience to learn how different people look at things differently
