Sex & Nudity

  • There is a scene which suggests that the MC was bathing, nothing is shown.
  • A few scenes have flirting in them, but it can go unnoticed

Violence & Gore

  • No gore is seen in the movie, but the main characters go through arduous task and stumble along and get hurt in the process, with small amounts of blood being spilled during one of the set pieces

Profanity

  • There is infrequent use of mild language ('crap', 'piss', 'damn', 'hell').
  • A few uses of 'damn' and 'crap', but nothing serious.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The minor part of the second act is set within a bar, with a few minutes spent with patrons drinking.
  • A character is seen smoking throughout the entirety of the third act.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Several scenes of peril involving the main characters getting into dangerous situations.
  • The main character (Suzume) has a sad backstory which is heavily involved into the plot.
  • The film has a much darker tone to Shinkai's previous works.

Violence & Gore

  • During the first act, Souta badly injures his arm while attempting to close the door at the ruins. A small amount of blood is shown.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The ending of the film involves Suzume meeting her younger self, in which she is attempting to search for her mother. This scene is quite emotional and upsetting.
  • Suzume and Tamaki get into an intense argument towards the end of the second act, and is later discovered to be driven behind posession of the keystones. This can be quite intense for some.
  • There is a scene where Souta's body begins to fail as he becomes the keystone in the second act. This whole scene is rather intense
