A yoga instructor, after a violent attack at her home, sees flashbacks of her life and begins a frantic race through her past to try to save her boyfriend.
Fresh off his segment in Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, writer/director Jed Shepherd has made this short film centred around a question time travel media has long explored; if you could travel back to the past, would you change it? That is something yoga instructor Jess (Jemma Moore) must reckon with after a home invasion leaves the lives of her and her boyfriend Scott (Amar Chadha-Patel) in peril.
Seeing her life flashing before her eyes, Jess finds herself able to control where she ends up and uses the opportunity to try altering the past. It is an effective...

Anyone who has taken a long trip by bus knows just what an odd experience it can be. Stuck in close quarters with strangers, sometimes for days. Depending on who those strangers are it can be either fun or absolute hell. Black Bags, the new thriller from director Josh Brandon and writers Angela Bourassa and Adam Pachter finds a new way to make it hell even after your trip is over.
Tess is having a troubled pregnancy, so troubled she’s taking experimental meds every four hours to try and see it to term. Presumably, it’s also causing her blackouts which is why she’s taking the bus back from the doctor rather than driving.
On the bus, she meets Sarah who sits next to her despite the bus being mostly empty.

See Paris Cry.
After kicking off 2023 with a re-do of one of our earliest episodes (The Perfection), we moved on to Todd Haynes’ AIDS allegory Safe before tackling Guillermo del Toro’s Gothic romance Crimson Peak. Now, we’re venturing back into the world of Dark Castle Entertainment with a fun discussion of Jaume Collet-Serra‘s 2005 remake House of Wax.
In the film, a gang of college friends, including Wade (Jared Padalecki), his girlfriend Carly (Elisha Cuthbert) and her twin brother Nick (Chad Michael Murray), are en route to a school football game when their car mysteriously loses its fan belt. They are forced to seek help in the nearby town of Ambrose, which boasts a literal house of wax. Once inside the spooky and seemingly abandoned building, they find the works on display are not quite what they seem, and the friends soon discover that they are being hunted...

New Queer’s Eve.
It’s been a pretty wild December, with us covering off-kilter films like the much-maligned Batman & Robin, the not-as-bad-as-you-think Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings and the Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins-penned murder mystery The Last of Sheila. Now we’re wrapping up the year with a discussion of Carter Smith‘s Into the Dark entry “Midnight Kiss“!
In the film, a group of friends gather at a beautiful desert resort on New Year’s Eve, and play a game called Midnight Kiss, as is their tradition. The purpose of the game is for each of them to find someone with whom to start the New Year. When a killer tries to join in, relationships that are already stressed are further tested, and life itself becomes the prize.
