A Game Worth Hyping For!
richiesburgers19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After all the mumbo jumbo in the meta era, Sonic The Hedgehog has finally got a brand new breath of fresh air upon landing in the Starfall Islands! I say that because the gameplay is a standout from all the boost to win games that has gotten old quickly.

The story is well done, being written by Ian Flynn from the Sonic comics, the new combat move set is satisfying to pull off, and the open zone gameplay gives you freedom to go fast without much hindrance.

I especially love that this game is Super Sonic at his best, considering it's the 30th Anniversary of his debut in Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Those boss fights are lit!

There are flaws like some bugs that got passed security, the final boss is significantly different to the point it confused me, and the opportunity for a new form for Sonic is missed.

Despite these aforementioned nitpicks, Sonic Frontiers is still a must-have for those fans who want a new experience after all the boost games that came and gone.

Sonic's New Era for 3D Gaming
TheMysteriousReviewer4 December 2022
Sonic Frontiers is the best 3D Sonic game in recent years. While it may have some issues with a predictable story and some of the glitches, well doesn't affect the difficulties like Sonic 06 had, can make the game a little too easy, it has a lot to make this a game that's actually worth playing with some touching moments with characters that stand out from the previous games, great graphics, some neat gameplay where we get to explore the island, level gameplay that tributes to the classic games, exciting power-ups we would unlock, and as Sonic games would usually go, has offered an awesome soundtrack that perfectly makes the boss levels intense. This is worth playing for Sonic fans. I know some will often criticize the previous 3D games like Sonic 06. But I can guarantee this one is something I think you will have fun with. 2022 has been a pretty great year for Sonic. We got the movie and the TV series. And we have gotten this 3D game that was a great step-up.

Good execution with flaws in its openness.
Sonic Frontiers is Sonic's first open-world video game and it's not a bad foray by any means; but the grinding rails when you complete certain tasks can sometimes clash with the seamless open-world design and make things feel oddly rigid. Does this make the game bad? No. What about the story? Sure it's copying and pasting Zelda Breath of the Wild's homework in ancient technology (as well as Halo) and Evangelion's Herculean-scaled monsters, but it's still fitting the further you absorb the story and look over some of the obvious influences.

Basically, for a character as established as Sonic, Frontiers represents an interesting experimental phase for the character where SEGA's trying to see what sticks for The Blue Blur in the long run; and something tells me they're gonna keep trying new gaming twists (like JRPG stuff perhaps) alongside the more traditional platforming stuff the series has become known for providing; and it's nice to see open-world design finally in The Hedgehog's varied repertoire.

Sonic Frontiers is like a meal that tries having so many things all at once: some stuff works naturally, but the more 'far fetched' aspects give some nice flavour even if it's out of place for that part of the dish.

Sonic Frontiers is a good time with some flaws that are mostly forgiven here, and it's a bold playbook for franchise-'tweaking' in the 'Open-World Era' of gaming. 3.5/5 stars.

Thank you Sega and Sonic Team.
fountasalexander8 November 2022
Sonic has been kicked around for years for having lack of interesting gameplay towards his games, overall story, non existent character arcs and development in more modern times.

I've been a Sonic fan ever since I was 6 years old with my favourite game being Adventure. I'm 16 now.

I know a lot more fans out there have been there since the beginning, but Sonic means everything to me, and it almost brought tears in my eyes while I was playing this game.

Sonic Frontiers changes everything people thought about Modern Sonic, it changed what I thought about Modern Sonic and for the better. I always loved Sonic but it always hurt to see him drop in audience due to his games just being lacklustre.

The cutscenes, the overall expression within Sonic, the deeper tone and more serious story is exactly what they needed all along, with also beautiful stunning graphics and a fantastic OST, although that's no surprise of course.

This year was the year of Sonic The Hedgehog. Im so proud to be a Sonic fan, thank you so much for taking the time with this one, it was so worth it. 💙

Why is Sonic Frontiers the Best Official 3D Sonic Game?
fourspaced15 November 2022
My first Sonic games were Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog on PS2. I had a blast with both. A kid's fun isn't something you can measure.

I didn't get an X360 until years later, and I had largely forgotten about the Sonic franchise.

Fast forward to 2020: Saw the Sonic movie in theaters & thought it was entertaining. Nothing more.

2022: Saw Sonic 1 again and then went to see Sonic 2 in theaters. Both were absolutely awesome. I started getting my hands on every Sonic game that I could and cemented myself as a worthy fan.

Let me begin by stating that I haven't yet left Kronos Island. But I am having an absolute blast since dropping into this new adventure.

It is a high claim I am making, but how does this game surpass the likes of Sonic Adventure 2 and Generations? Here are some reasons:

-Sonic's friends are fleshed-out characters

-Completely interactive overworld

-Deeply tantalizing OST

-Outrageous & cinematic story beats

-High-speed gameplay is at the forefront of everything.

THE BEST GAME OF THE MODERN ERA!!!
jpsilcris8 November 2022
This game is legendary, innovative and is the salvation of the franchise after the depressing sonic forces, it's satisfying to play, it has a beautiful story, amazing battles, unforgettable soundtrack, exciting ending and a more mature tone for the franchise because I think this is it the path that sega should follow, i was waiting for a game like this, because sega kinda got lost in the middle of the way because the critics seem like they just wanted to get into the games without analyzing it properly, this game was made with great care and he deserves your knowledge, don't care about criticism because he will suffer many, IT'S AMAZING!!!

The dlc is the hardest thing I've played to date
loganren21 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The base game is phenomenal and a great change of pace for the franchise but I'm sorry I need to rant. How do you go from a moderately challenging dmc-like to being on par with dark souls in one trial, people who have played the dlc know I'm talking about master king koko. The master king koko trial is a boss rush with all 3 island bosses with ALL of your stats reset but your skills intact. The base ring limit is 400 rings which means you have 400 seconds to complete 3 bosses with moderately large health bars, and the bosses get harder as you go making it even harder. The final boss of the dlc is not the final boss, it's the curtain call because this trial is the true final boss. That curtain call is really good by the way. Also the boss themes bring this up from a 5 to a 6.

Frontiers resurrected my love for the Sonic Series
therealspiderkid19 July 2023
When the teaser trailer for this game was out, I had somewhat very high and somewhat mainly low expectations. All the acclaimed rumors that this would be a "Sonic Ranger" game was thrown out the window on the game's release date. Sonic Frontiers is THE Sonic Game to play, and to be honest- Open World, Combat, Skill Tree are things I've wanted to see in a Sonic game for so long. The story they went with for this game really felt impactful, these characters have been a part of my childhood and it feels as if they all matured like I have. But beside that, the Super Sonic boss battles are breathtaking to play. The whole Super Sonic VS Titans gimmick had to stuck to this game for so long just for its gameplay and amazing OST. It even made it more better when Update 1 came out with the Boss Rush levels knowing I could replay these bosses and experience what I thought would be the end of a franchise after so many mediocre games, turned into an Ultimate Sonic Experience. Just when I thought my love for the series was dying, this game brought me back into the fanbase in a heartbeat.

Now this is a Sonic game that i was thinking
matheusmonlevadebyjus13 February 2024
I was sure about that because the plot of this game is so nice, sonic now he is being more mature in himself (and i like this) the musics of this game is exellent (like sonic colors musics), now this game in (i think is the first game i don´t know) that show us the open world (and i like this thing), okay and the challenges of this game are a little bit difficult (from the final horizon is so difficult but...), the cyberspaces levels are kinda of nice, the bosses of this game is so great and from the dlc of sonic frontiers is good but there are some kinda of difficultes of this game like going up onthe towers from sonic and the final boss of the dlc is so great.

And the overall of this is 8.7 outstanding SEGA thank you very mutch.

WORST SONIC GAME I HAVE SEEN!
irodri-0017014 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Sonic Frontiers is with its issues, but I'm NOT a fan of the game and would NOT highly recommend it to gamers. The open zone design is surprisingly terrible, becoming tedious, the action feels lazy and boring and the challenge level is horrible. Most people like the game, but I do not, because it ruined Sonic's potential, instead I would recommend something like 06 or forces, tbh. Frontiers is one of the games I hate, I also hate breath of the wild, Pokémon games expect Let's go Eevee, forgotten land, among many others. This is one of the most ugliest game I have seen in my life. I HATE THIS GAME SO MUCH!

My gender is shadow the hedgehog and I am all of me
lucasebcestaro2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
When this game came out, the name sonic frontiers seemingly teased that the main character would be shadow the hedgehog so imagine my surprise when that blue rodent showed up on my screen after that first cutscene. I was livid and I absolutely destroyed my Xbox controller, forcing me to throw it cross country and while the bosses were kind of cool, they never gave me the chance to be all of me. The fact that shadow who was seemingly going through be the main character of this game made me fuming as sega continues to tease us and they only mentioned his name ONE TIME IN THE WHOLE GAME!!!! I'm fuming.

Almost a good idea, but poor execution
A grind that goes off the rails, literally while you are grinding on the rails.

You have to unlock towers to play the original game style by collecting things in a desolate rainy open world.

Infuriating camera angles, horribly impossible first enemy giganto & unrewarding efforts after winning. The game doesnt even acknowledge your victory after you win the game, & rolls back to before the final boss.

For some reason, the best graphics are when you go fishing, which is the only way to speed up the progress quickly.

If you do play, just go fishing to level up quickly & use rewards to collect keys in order to skip to the end.

The good parts include moving quickly across the map & the original gameplay levels were decent.
