Happy birthday Jesse

Warning: Spoilers
Jesse awaits to go to his session wearing a golden paper crown. A young woman comes out to the waiting area. Jesse says hello. The girl, in turn, says hi. Jesse wants to know what did she come to see Paul about. She answers she has an eating disorder. The girl asks Jesse what is his problem. He responds he is just waiting for Paul, his uncle. Today, being his birthday, his uncle Paul is taking him out. He adds he is visiting from Milwaukee.

Jesse is in a subdued mode today. Gone is his anger of the last time we saw him irrupt in Paul's apartment in a panic state. Jesse is curious to know what happened to Max. Paul explains he has gone back to Maryland to live with his mother. For some reason Jesse appears to be fond of little Max, even though they never met officially. Perhaps he feels a connection to the boy.

Jesse shows a milder side to himself than the usual angry person he is most of the time Jesse had kept an e-mail that Kevin wrote to him after the fiasco last week. Kevin wonders about if maybe it was too early agree to see him at all. Kevin feels Karen and he should have been better off waiting a little more to finally meet him. For some unknown reason, Jesse appears to be calming down from the bad experience of last week. Paul feels he is finally coming around and he shows signs of progress.

We enjoyed this episode directed by Jim McKay. It was written by Sarah Treem, who frequently wrote for the series. As usual, Gabriel Byrne and Dean DeHaan compliment one another in what appears to be a good rapport between the actors.
