The bra

Warning: Spoilers
As Paul is arranging the office furniture, he finds Wendy's bra under the couch. They had made love during the day because of Max being in school. Paul later reflects on the tryst with his new girlfriend as he confesses to Adele of being distracted during sex.

As the session begins, Paul talks about Max's relation with Steve, his prospective new step-father. He was under the impression his son did not like the man in his mother's life, but in talking with Rose, his daughter, she told him it was just the opposite. In a way, Max and Steve love art, so that is something where they can relate.

Paul tells Adele about Sunil's passionate account during the last session. He was glad to see the passion his patient showed in talking about the love of his life that ended in tragedy. Adele remarks she senses a passion in Paul as he discussed Sunil's case with her. He wonders aloud what might be her own passion, but of course, she does not answer.

Dr. Weston goes on to tell about how he looked Adele up in the internet. To his amazement, he found another therapist in the West Coast with the same name. He realized it was just a coincidence, but the experience was strange to him. Paul confesses he has been thinking of her, a classical transfer of patient-analyst.

Paul also goes on to expand on the dream he told Adele in the last session. He compares it to his uprooting and subsequent abandonment by his own father. He had no saying in coming to America after a placid childhood in Ireland, and England. In fact, he was happier there.

Adele expands on the way she perceives Paul. She sees him "obscuring" most of the things in his own life, making it more difficult for himself. Paul on the other hand, sees Adele as a perfectly clear person in the way she handles him in their professional relation.

A good episode in this excellent series. The chapter was directed by Paris Barclay and written by Anya Epstein and Dan Futterman, following the Israeli model. Gabriel Byrne and Amy Ryan shine in this chapter.
