Not Gold but not muck either worth a watch.
paudieconnolly7 February 2022
Good to see the cast of people do nothing teaming up with Tom Davis who steals the show with his strange voiced character. Very little reason for this to be broke into episodes would have worked well as a film an enjoyable caper.

Enjoyable 1980s heist comedy
peterrichboy22 February 2022
I'm surprised so many people didn't enjoy this. It's just a a 6 part comedy about a bunch of useless petty criminals who take on a robbery which is way out of there depth. I really enjoyed the way it was set in the 1980s in someways it reminded me of some of those classic Ealing comedies of the 1950s and 60s in particular the Lavender Hill mob.

The dialect and filming are in the style of a Guy Richie movie. My only complaint would be the acting isn't great, much of the cast are from the BAFTA award winning People Doing Nothing. Sadly this shows there limitations as actors although the rest of the cast give solid performances.

7/10.

What is wrong with people
knezmikula4 September 2022
This is OBJECTIVELY a show that should be rated a 7 or above. People crying in the reviews are probably so used to having a super modern show, with super popular actors with perfect accents, and perfect styling and perfect acting etc etc.. Pulling up references of other shows with the same actors is also nonsensical.

I have never seen any of the actors before, to be honest, nor do i watch many UK shows. Watched this one in one session entirely, its fun, its imperfect, love the plot and characters. Crime comedy is the new thing nowadays, and i dont complain. "Only murders in the building" got me hooked on the genre, and i want more and more!

The only thing that was somewhat annoying is that few of the characters dont seem to know how to get a complete sentence out..like ever...so much stuttering going on. But other than that, its a very nice relaxing show that leaves you wanting more. Unless you are one of those 1-5 ratings, triggered by people with accents and 80s fashion.

Ah Well
svader13 February 2022
I had too many expectations when I read the cast which is probably why I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

However it is an easy watch with an occasional laugh but not hilarious.

Binge watch it.

Some of the reviews are more funny. One reviewer talks of the 90s. The show is set in the early 80s. Another reviewer appears to have an issue with being PC and has an issue with strong women and people of colour in leading roles.

Good but need to be a PJDN fan really
peregrinus349 February 2022
Seeing the PJDN boys in anything will always be worth it for me and likewise normally big Tom Davis but his character's voice in this is terrible can hardly understand him and don't think I laughed once. If you don't know the boys work then I can see this being a bit hard work tbh but their chemistry and timing and the great 80s detail make this worth a watch definitely.

Absolutely excellent
jackfield-610597 February 2022
Just watched all 6 episodes in one go, absolutely excellent. The characters are all quirky in their own individual way, the story moves at a cracking pace and is very funny. Looks like there will be a second series and i can not wait.

Was hoping this was better than the reviews
bevowen15 February 2022
I stumbled on this by accident and gave it a shot, binge watching all episodes. The acting was good in parts and not so in just one, for example, what is with Micks accent? I couldn't understand what he was saying in the first episode, it was so exaggerated that he was almost incomprehensible and mumbling words. That really put me off the series, it may me cringe every time he 'spoke'. It was however great to see the 80's clothes and was such a blast from the past. Would I recommend it? Probably not based on Mick's irritating accent, which is a shame as I love British TV series...

Great 80's vibe spoiled by poor ending
neillgudgin20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The net says this series has Ended/Cancelled which is odd because the show, if it finished, had a really weak ending with so many loose ends I'm sure they intended a 2nd run. Enjoyable because of the character acting and sets but ultimately disappointing.

Seen it all before
ILuvTVMovies11 February 2022
Standard cringe/awkward comedy that was fresh 15 years ago. You know what I mean...in the middle of a very tense situation everyone is awkwardly arguing about some trivial, pedantic detail. Wow, hilarious.

Overlayed on top of a standard heist plot from 90s movies complete with the catchy music montages, split screens, horizontal and vertical wipes and dissolves. It's all pretty cliche.

Brilliant casting, excellent writing, highly recommended.
swagswagnusson7 February 2022
Been waiting for this impatiently since I first read about it. A huge fan of People just do Nothing, and Stamp, Mustafa, and Chegwin work so well together as always and retain their roles and relationships from that series in this 80's East End small time gangster heist caper.

The East End settings, the 80's fashions, vehicles, language, smoky pubs are really well done.

All the characters have depth and the plot is fairly bog standard..ill conceived heist gets out of hand and the twists and turns are predictable but in no way tiresome. Hints of Lock Stock and other Guy Ritchie tropes throughout.

I've just sat through all six episodes back to back despite having to be up for work tomorrow.

Excellent supporting actors, as well as the lead roles, and some truly memorable set pieces.

Enjoyed it massively, but knew I would, and will be rewatching this week with my son.

Fun but flimsy
paul2001sw-120 March 2022
Many of the 'People Just Do Nothing' crew come back together for retro-crime comedy drama 'The Crash'. Personally, I just love Allan Mustafa, his character here is rather different to MC Grindah but just as hapless and still very funny. But the semi-realism of the former series is absent here, with a ropey plot that pays homage to the history of dodgy British gangster movies more than it says anything about real life. The secondary characters are also somewhat flimsy, although not without some laugh-inducing lines. With short episodes, the whole series is no longer than a typical movie; maybe it would have been more effective if written as one.

I really wanted to like this
cellariusmac12 February 2022
I kept watching each episode hoping it would get better, but alas it was just more disappointment. Unintelligent whinymen stooges interspaced with know-better strongwomen to act as the straight characters supposedly classifies this as comedy, but the laughter will be absent. It's like a 6 part stupid-dad/wise-wife commercial.

Decent but not great comic caper
BlueMew8 February 2022
The Curse is the story of a group of people who get into some bother when they stumble across a ton of gold. Personally, I found it okay, but it's one of those sort of things where you kinda have to squint to see the comedy. I also think it could work better as a movie myself.

Bad but brilliant!
JCookIMDB8 February 2022
The Curse (2022) review

Before watching 'the curse' I didn't really have high expectations. I'm a big fan of the 'people just do nothing' cast and seeing them in something out of the norm didn't really sit well with me at first which is why I wasn't expecting much from this show. Don't get me wrong the show is far from perfect and there's many faults and issues that I found with this show while watching it. These little issues I picked up on however didn't ruin the show but somehow added to the vibe and made the show more enjoyable. For example the acting in 'The Curse' was quite bad (in a humorous way),especially with the 'people just do nothing' cast however the bad acting didn't ruin the show for me, instead it enhanced the comedic tone and gave me a lot more laugh out loud moments.

The story itself was interesting enough to keep me entertained and there was enough twists throughout the episodes to keep the story compelling and engaging and I'd really like to see what's next for this show and where it could take the characters because this show does have a lot of potential! 'The Curse' definitely exceeded my expectations in a very unusual but enjoyable way.

All the characters seem fresh and have their own uniqueness about them especially Tom Davis's character 'Big Mick Neville' who definitely stands out throughout the show both literally and metaphorically.

Like all shows and films however there's always some negatives... Certain characters in the show came across as really irritating and their motivations don't make sense. On top of that, the bad acting makes these said characters even more irritating which unfortunately makes it hard to watch when they're in scenes at times. Another thing I found disappointing was the pacing of the last two episodes as they felt rushed but at the same time hardly anything important actually happened up until the last 5 minutes and the overall ending was quite weak and very fast paced. It seems as though the writer forgot to write an end at first and just quickly thought of something that would fit, just to tie it all together.

Overall the 'the curse' is definitely my favourite new series of 2022 and besides it's little flaws here and there, it really is a fresh, engaging and hilarious show! I'm not sure myself if there will be a series 2 but based on how the show ended it would only feel right to see where the characters and story will go next!

Viewed on 'All4' 7/2/22.

Very underrated, worth a watch.
Chris-stout-54-7113076 March 2022
Better than a 6.8 average. If you like Brassic, King Gary, Phoenix Nights etc, then you'll enjoy this. Over the top characters, good script and genuinely funny moments. Loved it.

Top Notch!
paulkerr-1852422 February 2022
One of the best comedies I've watched in a long time, full of quirky characters and laugh out loud moments. The authentic 80's feel only adds to the black comedic chaos.

Each character is unique but the interactions between them creates some hilarious scenes - I would highly recommend.

Diabolical
DoubtfulBadger13 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Highlight is in the first minutes of episode 1.

"Geezer" outside with a car phone calling to say he's outside. Those of a certain age will remember being insanely jealous of me the "prat" with a phone as large as a brick but never admitting it.

After that bit of nostalgia, it's all downhill.

In episode 6, the copper says that he can't listen to that ridiculous voice any more after hearing for two minutes. You're lucky mate, we've had to endure it for five-and-a-half episodes.

Could have been good but too much overacting spoils it.

It's not often my husband says "next" to see the next episode, and thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining comedy caper with a spot on retro feel, great acting and brilliant directing. Makes a change from the predictable. A worthy contender.

Stupid meets new stupidity
kasino-687108 February 2022
Comedy? I think that genre is rewriting the meaning of itself year by year. I remember times when I could actually uncontrollably laugh while watching a comedy movie. Just when I thought Holywood was bad at making a comedies, this came out. Call it whatever you want, but this ain't no comedy geezer.

loved this: Update season 2
Headturner1117 November 2022
I loved this I just wish it had lasted longer and the ending told more of what happened! I think this is one of the best done series I've watched in a while! All the actors where good and realistic! Tom Davis( King Gary) was awesome as well as the others. There wasn't a bad actor in it! Had Guy Ritchie vibes. I'm not sure why it wasn't rated higher with all the junk being produced now a days. Since it was a true story , sadly there won't be a second season( I don't think)!?! But it's been a long time since I've enjoyed something so much as well as liking every character. I just wish the ending had been more fleshed out! Edit because I just watched season 2... I discovered the 2d season last night when looking for something to watch. I love this series it has a Guy Ritchie vibe all over it! I feel like the episodes are too few but I hope they make a season 3! I'm surprised the score is so low! They've set it up nicely for a season 3! I hoped for a 2 but had no idea what it'd entail but 3 can go any which way! Also reminds me of guilt a bit. American audiences are probably bringing the reviews down but if you like anything Guy Ritche you should like/love this!

Where to start?
corrado-prizzi12 February 2022
Probably with The Guardian. I don't know why I haven't learnt yet. If they give anything a glorious review, it's going to be poor. Really poor. Once again, no exception here. What was it they liked? Ah, yes. The assistant detective character.

Everthing is out of time, the clothes, the cars, the music, the behaviour. Add a completely unbelievable scenario and cast, and you'll wonder why you ever thought it might pick up in the later episodes.

People just do....comedy caper
matt-166446 February 2022
This reunites 3 of the cast from People just do nothing which means it should be good, along with Tom Davies who I find quite funny.

I'm 2 episodes in and whilst not amazing it's ok.

I'd place it in the category of 'easy to watch when you can't find anything else on' and sometimes this isn't a bad thing as it speeds along quite nicely and has given me one or two laughs.

Let's see what happens in the next 4 episodes.
