Leonard and Sheldon's opposite sex problems are the topic of "The Desperation Emanation" episode of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm1 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
In this last season episode of "The Big Bang Theory": Leonard is bemoaning not having someone to date. At least he's in the same boat as Raj...until Raj reveals he's going out with a deaf girl. "What?" asks Leonard. "That's what she said" comes the reply (Nice reference to the U.S. version of "The Office"). So Leonard asks Howard for a favor since that's how Howard got Bernadette. Bernadette's friend Joy turns out to be someone who openly wipes her armpit sweats in public so it's no go...until she invites Leonard to a wedding. Meanwhile, when Amy invites Sheldon to meet her mother, Sheldon doesn't like the implication of taking their relationship to the next level and tries to avoid her. It turns out she only wants her parent to think they're having intercourse (though that mother doesn't seem too thrilled when she's told that) and not actually becoming boyfriend/girlfriend...Another funny ep of "The Big Bang Theory" though I wasn't too enamored of the first appearance of Joy before she said a few more lines that I thought was pretty hilarious. Loved the way Amy and Sheldon just matter-of-factly said they were having intercourse to her mother. So on that note, "The Desperation Emanation" is another worthy ep of "The Big Bang Theory". P.S. If you're wondering why Kaley Cuoco isn't in this one, she had broken a leg while horseback riding a few weeks before and was in the process of healing it.

Leonard Is Desperate
Hitchcoc8 October 2021
Imagine going to Howard to try to meet a girl. The results are terrifying. The more fun part of the episode is Sheldon's efforts to avoid meeting Amy Farrah Fowler's mother. His disguise on the steps is wonderful, as well as his mnemonics for getting down four flights. Some of the episode is a bit crass.

The Desperation Emanation (#4.5)

This was pretty fun. I loved how scared Sheldon was. And how they cleared out that misunderstanding was a great scene. Sheldon was so impressed with her thinking that romantic love is useless. Leonard's date was also amusing. That woman is maybe funny but all her humor was pretty dirty and gross. Glad Leonard didn't end up with her.

The Desperation Emanation

Warning: Spoilers
It's not the best this episode.

The idea of setting Leonard up with someone who really isn't the sort of person he'd be with is funny, but only at first, and the comedy doesn't really go anywhere. There's a pay off line at the end that works, but it's not good.

The 'Shamy' dynamic continues to work very well in contrast, and there's lots of good moments there. Jim Parsons seems to be enjoying it too, and bounces well off of Biallick well.

Overall, Penny isn't missed, but some clear and well thought out storytelling is. Again, this is another good, perfectly watchable episode that never rises to be anything more.
