Clark Kent
- Clark Kent: Where's Tess? What have you done with her?
- Lex Luthor: She's fine. I wouldn't worry so much about my dear little sister. You know, I used to think it was our families who made us who we are. Then I hoped it was our friends. But if you look at history, the great men and women of the world have always been defined by their enemies.
- Clark Kent: You have a second chance. You can change all that.
- Lex Luthor: But that's the thing about memories - you can't forget them. Like how you're always one step ahead of me, Clark. No matter how meticulously I prepared, no matter how strategic I was, if only I'd known I stood a chance.
- Clark Kent: It wasn't a competition.
- Lex Luthor: Of course it wasn't. You were born to be the chosen one. You're simply better than us.
- Clark Kent: And that always killed you.
- Lex Luthor: No. No, what killed me is that you didn't even want it. You fought it - you hid from it! I would have taken it and relished it, embraced it.
- Clark Kent: My destiny wasn't yours to take!
- Lex Luthor: I get that now. Which is why I finally embraced my own. You and I... we will both be great men. Because of each other, we have a destiny together, Clark... only on different sides.
- Clark Kent: I'll always be there to stop you. Always.
- Lex Luthor: Oh, I'm counting on it.
- Lex Luthor: Hello, Clark. Can't say I love what you done with the place.
- Clark Kent: Lex.
- Lex Luthor: You still say it the same way - astonishment mixed with a hint of dread, yet... with a hopeful finish.
- Clark Kent: You're alive.
- Lex Luthor: Seems my father had a... a change of heart. And I got a second chance of life.
- Lex Luthor: Our story hasn't been written yet, Kal-El. And every villain is only as great as his hero. But, you see, that all relies on you saving us from the coming Apocalypse.
- Clark Kent: You know about Darkseid?
- Lex Luthor: You really thought I just read the cliff notes of the Veritas journals? They foretold of a chosen savior - the light that will inspire this world out of darkness. You are the light, Clark. Only you have the power within.
- Clark Kent: I'm not so sure that Clark Kent can save the entire world on his own.
- Lex Luthor: He can't. But we both know who can.
- Clark Kent: I'm sorry I couldn't save you, Lex.
- Clark Kent: These were my trials.
- Jor-El: Your final trial is upon you, my son. You are ready. Seize your destiny.
- [last lines]
- Lois Lane: Are you ready?
- Clark Kent: I've been ready for seven years.
- Flustered Reporter: Somebody tell Perry White! Just came in over the wire! There's a bomb in an elevator uptown!
- Clark Kent: Just tell the minister I'm gonna be a few minutes late.
- Clark Kent: [at his father's grave, Jonathan's spirit watches Clark] I never wanted to say goodbye.
- Jonathan Kent: Then don't.
- Clark Kent: I thought I had it all figured out - how to move on... how to bury my guilt, my insecurities, my questions. I'm so close. I know who I'll become. I've seen it. Lois thinks I should let her go. Mom says I should hold on to you.
- Jonathan Kent: You don't need to hold on to someone, Clark, if they're already in your heart.
- Clark Kent: I just keep leaning on you, on Jor-El. I need to stand alone. It's better that way.
- Jonathan Kent: You mean it's easier that way.
- Clark Kent: It's just I've missed you so much.
- Jonathan Kent: Then let me be there for you, Clark. A-and don't - don't push your mother away. We're part of you.
- Clark Kent: It's like I'm on a cliff standing on the edge, and where I'm looking is beyond where you've been before, it's beyond than Jor-El has ever been before. And much as I value everything you've given me, I need to go beyond where either of you can guide me anymore, to be the hero the world needs me to be.
- Lois Lane: You think those three prophets, or whatever you call them, took Tess?
- Clark Kent: We're about to find out. She left her cellphone underneath the car seat with a video message for one of us to find.
- Lois Lane: One of us with x-ray vision, maybe.
- Jor-El: Your journey has come to an end, Kal-El.
- Clark Kent: I shouldn't have tried to push away my Kryptonian side. My strength is accepting it - accepting you.
- Jor-El: You honor me. A father's pride cannot be measured in words, but know that I'm proud of you, son.
- Clark Kent: You have no idea how long I've waited to hear you say that.
- Jor-El: We have been down our long road, Kal-El - one paved with difficult trials. Those trials are behind you now. Any father can only hope that he is one day humbled by the feats of his son. But it is your soul, Kal-El, of which I am most proud. You - and you alone - possess the courage, the determination, and the compassion that will be required of you to life the darkness from the Earth. I ask you to remember one thing. Your abilities may be of my blood, but it is your time in Smallville, with Jonathan and Martha Kent and all the people there, that made you a hero, Kal-El.
- Jonathan Kent: Always hold onto Smallville.
- Martha Kent: No matter where I am or who I'm choosing to bring in my life, your father is always with me. And he's with you, if you just allow yourself to - to see him.
- Clark Kent: I did. Last year. I thought I was talking to him. But then I realized it was just an excuse for me not to face my future - just I was waiting for Jor-El to show me the way. I had to move on.
- Clark Kent: [Lois reads his vows] I, Clark Kent, take you, Lois Lane, to be my companion, forever. And with you by my side, I will never be alone. Though the world sees a strong and independent woman, I've never known someone with such gentle grace and a more pure heart. When I've been lost, you've always been there to bring me back. So on this day, at this moment, I pledge the rest of my life to you. You've always believed in me, and I believe in you. And when you believe in someone, it's not for a minute or just for now. It's forever.
- Lois Lane: [crying] I'm such an idiot.
- Lois Lane: [Clark reads her vows] I wanted these vows to be perfect. But perfection's a hard thing to get your hands on. But life is meant to be a little messy. And when it comes to love, I think it's like my dad always said about the army. You only sign up if it's the only thing you could ever imagine doing. And, Clark, I cannot imagine spending a moment of my life without you. So I promise that I will always have your back as you will always have mine. You're my best friend. You're my home, and you are my true love. And I am yours, and will be forever.
- [putting her ear to the door]
- Lois Lane: Clark?
- Clark Kent: I'm here. I'll see you at the chapel.
- Lois Lane: [after Clark walks her down the aisle] Everything okay, Smallville?
- Clark Kent: Perfect. It's perfect.
- Jonathan Kent: I knew you'd see me again when you were ready.
- Clark Kent: I made a mistake, Dad. I thought I had to leave you behind. But it's you and Mom and everyone that I care about that makes this world worth saving.
- Jonathan Kent: But you're worried you're gonna fail this time. I know you're scared, son.
- Clark Kent: I faced Darkseid before. He knows my weakness. He almost defeated me. I need your help.
- Jonathan Kent: But, son, he never saw the man standing before me now. Clark Kent, as much as your mother and I tried to protect you from your origins, tried to prepare you to face any challenge... I'm sorry, son, but our guidance just isn't enough anymore. You're gonna have to let Jor-El guide you from here on out.
- Clark Kent: I can't, Dad. I turned my back on him like I did you.
- Jonathan Kent: He's your father. He'll understand.
- Martha Kent: Don't doubt yourself, Clark. This has been coming for a long time. Before you arrived, we wanted a child so badly. The day you found us in that field, you were the miracle we prayed for. Now the world needs that same miracle.
- Clark Kent: Everything's okay now.
- Oliver Queen: No, it's not. Looks like the world's gonna needs its heroes sooner than we thought.
- Darkseid: The lost son of Jor-El.
- Clark Kent: Darkseid. My father sent me to protect this planet. And will fight you to my last breath.
- Darkseid: There must be a part of you that's disgusted by how easily your people fell to me.
- Clark Kent: They may not be perfect, but I believe even in the darkest soul, there's always hope. People want to believe in something greater, and it may be easier to hate, but it's stronger to love.
- Darkseid: Is it? Eons have passed since I came face-to-face with a force that could possibly tip the balance to the light. You are the light! You cast out the darkness from Oliver Queen, and you will obliterate my darkness from the rest of the world if you are not stopped! You will surrender to me. You will lose your soul. I will annihilate you!
- Clark Kent: Lois, we know the prophets use the people's darkness to mark them with an Omega. What we don't know is why. And Tess quoted one of the prophecies as saying that the markings weren't just spiritual. There's some sort of ant-life dark force that could bring about the Apocalypse.
- Lois Lane: You mean like bringing a giant planet crashing into ours?
- Clark Kent: Exactly like that. Maybe the marking has some sort of unexplainable gravitational pull.
- Lois Lane: Too bad anti-life equations aren't covered in Physics 101.
- Clark Kent: I need to figure out a way to lift the darkness and break whatever's binding these people to that planet.
- Lois Lane: Today definitely tops Chloe's Wall of Weird. Exactly how many are marked?
- Clark Kent: [scans the people in the room with his x-ray vision, they are marked with the Omega] More than you want to know.
- Oliver Queen: You know, Clark, when I graduated from Excelsior, it was, uh... it was one of the most important days of my life, but... but I don't remember any of the speeches that were given. I don't remember getting my diploma. I just, uh... I remember my parents not being there.
- Clark Kent: I know what you're trying to say, Oliver, but I'm not here to mourn my father's death. I already did that. I've put it behind me.
- Oliver Queen: Okay, well, if by "putting it behind you" you mean saying sayonara to your ice dad, selling the farm, and hanging out in a cemetery instead of being at church wearing an uncomfortably starched suit...
- Clark Kent: I thought Lois was my future. I thought she was my new life and my destiny, but what if she's part of the memories I need to leave behind? What if heroes aren't destined to love?
- Oliver Queen: I've been down this road before. I've gone through this. You know where it landed me? Burning a perfectly good leather hoodie.
- Lois Lane: Clark, you inspired the darkness out of Oliver.
- Clark Kent: I can't do that for everyone on the planet, Lois. If Tess knows how to stop this, I need to find her.
- [running a search]
- Clark Kent: Our internal database shows it's registered to...
- Lois Lane: A company called Preclox?
- Clark Kent: Yeah. It was founded only six weeks ago.
- Lois Lane: According to their bank records, they have limitless funds.
- Clark Kent: Genetic research.
- Lois Lane: I only know of one mega-mogul who's obsessed with genetic engineering. Lionel Luthor.
- Clark Kent: Who knows that he's being tracked by Tess Mercer.
- Lois Lane: Yeah, but the GPS went down with the satellites.
- Clark Kent: It should tell us where he was fifteen minutes ago.
- [finding a result]
- Clark Kent: Lois, that's the Luthor mansion.
- Lois Lane: But that place burned to the ground.
- Clark Kent: Maybe what Lionel's after is underground. The Luthor mansion was built on a labyrinth of corridors underneath it.
- [the room rumbles]
- Clark Kent: Lois, no matter what happens...
- Lois Lane: Clark, a person that I greatly admire once told me that when you believe in someone, it's not for a few minutes or sometimes or just for now. It's forever. Now go save the world.
