Two Men and a Baby
zombiehigh1816 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Though not the best comic episode ever but it is certainly better than the premier. Dean is again over protective of his loved ones as he moves his family to safety and freaks out when he catches Ben holding a shot gun. Dean has always been great with kids but is he an appropriate father considering his many issues? Dean is trying to break his family curse and keep Ben from living his life but he turns into another version of John in the process just like Sam pointed out.

Random thoughts:

  • It's nice that Sam turned to Dean when he couldn't handle the baby situation, May be the younger Winchester is acting strangely but he still has no one to rely onto except his big brother.

  • Seeing Dean with a baby was very endearing, It's amazing want he learned in a year away from the hunting life and it fit his character as a father good. However humming a rock song and giving the baby alcohol was a typical Dean behaviour. And I liked that Dean only trusted Sam with the baby later when they were at the hunting camp. There is still hope in those two to be back on their brotherly love train again.

  • It's interesting that Dean chose to name the baby Bobby while Sam chose John, it shows how the brothers view their father now. Sam is more accepting and forgiving of John's way of raising them, while Dean no longer sees his father as his idol instead it's Bobby who has always been there for them.

  • The story of the alpha shape shifter is interesting, and I wonder who Samuel is working for?

  • How did Christian know about Dean's role in Hell? Did Sam tell him? And if he did, How could he subject Dean to such a situation knowing Dean's feeling about that?

  • Did Sam really use the baby as bait? Yes it's a baby monster but still?

  • So sad for Mark Campbell I liked you better than Christian and I wished he died instead.

  • Does every hunter in the world have a bomb shelter now!

  • Dean how did you end up with this perfect understanding woman?

  • Yay the Impala is back!!!!! Girl I missed you.

  • Finally, I have to say the babies were very cute and very different from the creepy children the show had before.

Has some funny bits but missing the thought of prior episodes
CubsandCulture26 March 2020
The boys interacting with a shapeshifter infant ends up being fairly funny and the overall episode further the theme of Dean being domesticated. Unfortunately, it's pretty clear that the writers didn't have a strong sense of where they were going. Alpha monsters feel very ad hoc in the mythos and it makes less sense the more you think about it. You only ever meet two of these creatures and that doesn't really work. I think they should have limited the alpha idea to one monster type.

Babies and alphas

Warning: Spoilers
I love the shapeshifters on this show because they have been the best monsters on it, probably mainly due to the episode storylines they were in. Now what i don't like in this episode is just something baffling, why not even attempt to show why the alpha didn't kill Dean, jeez why. Seems like something that could be prevented, it seems so lazy to have that happen. I liked the drama in this episode, now S6 i think is where they turn up the melodrama, this ep still i quite enjoyed the very real conflicts and tensions. Mystery of Sam even more deeper and done well. Lisa was here, she was ok. What's happening with the monsters? Sure we are missing the soul of the show, the two brothers together but it's picking up where it left of and it's doing a good job. Now the earlier seasons of the show really wanted to hone in on the monster dillemma, its one of the more depressing things of the show because it gets us to empathize with these beings that are basically cursed. I have enjoyed some of those episodes and their moral conflict but it's pretty dark. I like how Dean has some sense here, he wasn't a total bigot towards monsters likes he gets at the end, somehow he gets worse.

It's A Complicated Life
Red_Identity2 October 2010
After really liking Exile on Main Street, but at the same time very skeptical of how the show was going to go, Two and a Half Men proved that the show is once again going for another great season.

The episode was a strong stand-alone, with a strong monster story arc. there were some very funny moments as well. But the real brilliance of the episode came from it's ability to mix in the real conflicts that Dean is dealing with. He certainly does not trust his grandfather, or anyone else that he is supposed to be loyal to. He also is stuck in a very difficult scenario. What does he do? Does he leave his family behind, but yet repeat what his father did to him and Sam? Or does he leave them? Lisa has been such a caring, gentle, and very developed character so far, the perfect woman for Dean. But she knows that he has to make a decision, and she knows that given the decision that she chooses for him might lead to their relationship's demise. It is such a complicated life.

We are supposed to know that Samuel has something that he is hiding, but whether Sam knows about it or not is yet to be revealed. Dean also had doubts in Sam, to a point of even asking him if he used the baby as bait to catch the shape-shifter. Overall, the episode was brilliant!

One of the best episodes ever.

OMG for all those people who didn't like this episode; What the hell do you want more?

This episode had everything. It had an interesting plot, plenty of action, so much humour, and as always fantastic writing and perfect acting.

Jensen was exceptional with the baby. I laughed my pants off the minute the baby started crying in the supermarket and Dean started moaning after it.

This episode should get an 11 out of 10 but I can't so I have to settle for 10.

OK Episode

When four families are killed and their babies are missing, Sam finds that a security company may be evolved in the case and summons Dean to help him to bring the baby of a fifth slaughtered family to Samuel. However they are chased by a powerful shape shifter that wants the baby and they discover that the baby is a new breed.

"Two and a Half Men" is better than the awful "Exile on Main St." but is only a reasonable episode. I hope that vacation of the writers ends and they can succeed in writing again good episodes of this great TV series. My vote is six.
