I Usually Enjoy Bad Movies...
jengeorgopoulos6 August 2018
I usually enjoyed bad movie but this one is just so pitiful I'm just angry at the time I wasted watching it, which feels like about four hours of my life. Then again that's probably just because this was so bad.

You see this isn't one of those bad movies that is fun to watch because the poorly done parts and bad acting and child level writing are so dumb that you can laugh at it, no, this is one of those movies that is just bad in a very annoying way. Nothing in this movie is good or even slightly entertaining at all. It's just a very badly produced movie with awful picture and sound quality, non actors trying to act and a script that's just boring, boring, BORING.

The only thing even remotely close to being somewhat OK is the well done poster/DVD cover. Don't be fooled by it though, this is just a total dud masquerading as an Avengers spoof or ripoff and trying desperately to look like an actual movie.

Lowest possible rating on this one.

Garbage
johns608718 October 2016
Whoever made this movie should be immediately tracked down wherever he is sleeping right now, then he should be dragged out into the street and shot. This total garbage pail of a movie should then be collected by movie lovers everywhere and every single copy should be burned until not a single watchable frame is left. I am not saying that lightly, this movie is such a worthless piece of garbage that it needs to be destroyed.

Not sure what else to say but I have to write 10 lines apparently so.... I guess I hate the movie because it is confusing with awful writing, the jokes are awful and there are way too many of them, the acting is bad, but mostly it just looks awful with bad video and audio quality, and it seems like it was directly as a school video project by a random kid who doesn't even care what he is making.

Terrible movie. Avoid this at all costs if you value your sanity and time.

It should come with a warning label
obannon-322748 September 2020
Being a huge fan of the original comics I was greatly disappointed in this film. There is no attempt to tell the origins of any of the main characters even the title character gets the readers digest version. The acting is bad even for a low budget film the lady in red in particular sounds like she is reading lines off a card just off camera. The fight choreography looks like it wasn't even rehearsed the lady in red again is the worst of the group making it painfully obvious that she has never throw a punch in her life. the costumes are laughable at best the lady in red is actually the best of the bunch this time followed by the scarab who's bad batman costume mold with very visible seams wasn't too terrible and would have been passable if the cowl wasn't clearly not connected to the suit and hovering four inches above his shoulders like it warped in shipping or something. And then there is the black terror who's acting seemed the best but it was totally ruined by his hideous costume with a skull and crossbones T shirt that looks like it was crocheted on by someone's grandma, I mean they could have done better if the just bought a jolly roger t shirt at a discount store there not that expensive. The absolute worst is the daredevil suit "agent double-dare in the film". Daredevil is the reason watched this film I am a huge fan of the comics only to find out he's not even in the stupid thing except for one plain clothes fight scene in the middle that doesn't even not even need to be there and the team assembling at the end of the film where he is wearing a plain two tone spandex body suit without eyes or a mouth which was the most disappointing costume in the film "even worse than all the villains just wearing domino masks". When you make a superhero film even on a budget there are some things you cant cut on and costumes is definitely top of the list. and lastly the locations for the film were absurd N.E.D.O.R. headquarters is clearly a museum with no attempt to dress up or disguise the room at all, and I have no words to describe the fact that the final battle actually takes place in a mattress factory I'll say that again a mattress factory, for no reason at all. even micro budget short film makers on youtube know how to build flats and panels to cover what you don't want the audience to see this is just sad. i'm normally a fan of this kind of stuff even the bad one's but this is clearly too much, i might forgive it if it was a student film or someone's first film but no a real production company gave a real director with real films under his belt to make this trash and I just had to comment. It should come with a warning label, Caution the following film is trash watch your step.

Surprisingly good compared to later shark flicks by the same people
JodyBruchon6 May 2024
The people behind this film are notorious for making movies meant to be "so bad it's good" a la Sharknado. You'll see the same faces involved in Jurassic Shark and Raiders of the Lost Shark. I was introduced to these movies through I Hate Everything's review of Jurassic Shark and went on to watch Raiders of the Lost Shark, then ultimately this movie. With the two shark movies as the basis, Avenging Force is surprisingly good. It's still not a great movie but it has a lot more charm and better production in general than later works by the same crew. It's at least worth a watch if you like amateur films that don't have a budget but made a good attempt.

Genuinely Masterful
CrackerJBarrelEsq26 October 2021
When I first watched this I wasn't so sure about it's quality but as I am now on my 312th viewing I would consider this one of the 14 best movies of all time. I would like to point out the performance by Mark Courneyea.. It was an enlightening experience and every time I think about this movie I cry just a little.

An enjoyable effort, especially if you're a fan of Golden Age comic book heroes.
misbegotten30 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a version of the ultra-low budget superhero movie AVENGING FORCE: THE SCARAB on YouTube that was dubbed into German and clearly heavily edited (according to the IMDb, the film is 85 minutes long, but the version I watched was less than an hour in length). AVENGING FORCE was written, produced & directed by Canadian film-maker (and occasional comic book publisher) Brett Kelly, who has performed one or more of the same duties on several other superhero movies: IRON SOLDIER (2010), THUNDERSTORM: THE RETURN OF THOR (2011), AGENT BEETLE (2012) and RISE OF THE BLACK BAT (2012). AVENGING FORCE was filmed under the title 'THE SCARAB' but re-titled prior to release. It's easy to assume that this was an attempt to cash in on Marvel's AVENGERS franchise, but AVENGING FORCE was released on DVD in North America in 2010, two years before the first AVENGERS movie reached cinemas.

With the exception of IRON SOLDIER, all of Brett Kelly's superhero movies feature genuine Golden Age comic book heroes whose copyright has lapsed and now exist in the public domain. In addition to The Scarab, AVENGING FORCE also has The Woman In Red, The Black Terror, the original Daredevil (renamed 'Doubledare' to avoid any legal problems with Marvel), and Lady Satan (although a heroine in the original comics, she's portrayed as one of the movie's villains - perhaps Kelly thought a heroic character named 'Lady Satan' would be a hard sell in an America where some churches organise mass-burnings of HARRY POTTER books).

Although I'm not fluent in German, while watching AVENGING FORCE I was still able to work out the basics of the movie's plot (who was doing what to whom, and why) and I enjoyed the film for what it was. I thought the action scenes were well handled, and I was amused that the covert intelligence organization employing The Women In Red was called N.E.D.O.R., after Golden Age publishers Nedor Comics.

Masterpiece Of A Movie
lachlanreus4 May 2023
First of all, this movie is better than the shawshank redemption, every scene in this masterpiece had me in tears of joy, i have watched it a million and one times and every time it gets better. Brett Kelly is a master of direction and is up there with the greatest directors of all time, Martin Scorsese should take classes from him. And Mark Courneyea, his performance was so perfect, it has me feeling every emotion there was. I had a heart attack when i learnt that he wasn't nominated for the best actor award at the oscars in 2010. Mark Courneyea is easily the best actor to come from Canada (Sorry Ryan Reynolds). I have nothing but praise for this masterpiece and I recommend watching this movie a billion times over as you catch something new with every viewing. If i could i would give this film an 11/10, nay, a 12/10 but yet i can't so that rating is only in my heart. I am on of the few leaders of the Mark Courneyea fan club, the other two know who they are and us 3 are the only people in existence to have signed photos from Mark Courneyea. I hope one day his acting skills come into the light of main stream movies and that man can finally get the oscar that he deserves!

Green Hornet better be at least This Good !
guestar5713 May 2010
Starring : Mark Redfield. You know you're being entertained with 'silver age comic book' heroes like Scarab,Black Terror and Double Dare. This film besides the subject being related to an old comic,Is very serious in tone. The effects are cheap,But edge of the computer tech accomplishment. Costumes are best feature with an authentic ring.

Acting,'Scarab' actor kind of looks like Donny Osmond,Female lead 'RED' may be too young for role,'Black Terror' actor stole the movie except when MARK REDFIELD did his 'Nick Fury-ish' turn.

Brett Kelly is quite a candidate for triple threat of 'Direct To Video' film-making,This Canadian effort is quite a teaser for Seth Rogen's "GREEN HORNET" and a possible webisode series of AVENGING FORCE.

incredible movie
theamazingbulkfan12324 March 2023
This movie is amazing, i still wish The Amazing Bulk showed up in this movie, that would have made it a 10/10. I honestly loved every character and i'll go over why here: The Sphinx was hilarious and a very believable villain. Jody Haucke was the perfect pick to play The Sphinx. The Scarab was awesome but I felt as though Mark Courneyea brought the character down with his dry and stale performance but other than that The Scarab was awesome. General Carter was masterfully played by Mark Redfield and Lady Satan was one of my favorite characters, Angela Parent did an incredible job playing her. Overall Avenging Force: The Scarab was a very great movie and it's only flaws were a few stale jokes and not including The Amazing Bulk.

phooactioncomix7 April 2020
Not everybody likes a big deal comic book movie, such as MCU and DCU and most of all, these characters are based on forgotten comic book character ...so what are you gonna do.

Yes the film is low budget and so forth..ya dah ya dah ya dah, but at least the director gave it a try and done ...

Everybody wants to make a superhero movie, so why not make forgotten ones.

mark courneyea: a true hero, cambridge enthusiast.
markcourneyeafan116 June 2023
Truly exquisite performance from mark! Job well done! I particularly like the use of facial expressions and eyebrows to create and emphasize an emotional experience. Canada really does produce psychics! Always remember: do your cambridge excersises and maybe you'll get there one day. Please and thank you. Mark is an inspiration. Peter Ward was portrayed by Mark, with immense skill and wisdom. I have become a fan of other movies of his as well. E.g. Spyfall -although i will say the highlight of spyfall was miss funnymoney and old bag. Don't forget about lance dixon! (he makes cider). I wish mark well in all of his future endeavours and goals. I guess he's alright at IT aswell. 10 stars "sunovagun!" - Mark C.
