- Stefan Salvatore: Damon hasn't said a word to me. Every time I try to talk to him he shuts me down.
- Elena Gilbert: Do you think he's still trying to find Katherine?
- Stefan Salvatore: I don't know. He waited a hundred and forty-five years, only to find out that Katherine could not care less. I mean, it's gotta hurt, right?
- Elena Gilbert: And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
- Stefan Salvatore: This is all kind of new to me. I usually keep to myself, I don't always fit in.
- Matt Donovan: That's because you're that guy.
- Stefan Salvatore: What guy?
- Matt Donovan: The guy who seems like he has everything so the people who don't kind of run the other way.
- Stefan Salvatore: Is that what I seem like?
- Matt Donovan: Pretty much.
- Stefan Salvatore: Hmm. What a dick.
- Jeremy Gilbert: Why didn't you... kill me?
- Anna: I don't know. Maybe I'm a sucker for guys like you.
- Jeremy Gilbert: Like what?
- Anna: Lost. But why would you confront me about it? Why would you risk it?
- Jeremy Gilbert: Because if it was true, maybe... I don't know. Maybe it's true about Vicki. And also because... I want you to turn me.
- Elena Gilbert: Have you ever even been on a double date before?
- Stefan Salvatore: Oh, absolutely. Uh, '72. Hef and the twins.
- Elena Gilbert: What?
- Stefan Salvatore: Yeah. Playmates. I got Miss June.
- Stefan Salvatore: Have you thought any more about what you're gonna do?
- Elena Gilbert: About what? Isobel, my vampire birth mother, who's related to my vampire ancestor, Katherine, who screwed over your vampire brother? Nah. Haven't thought about it at all.
- Jeremy Gilbert: I actually have to write another paper. I was thinking about squeezing one more out on the vampires of Mystic Falls.
- Anna: Really? Haven't you exhausted the subject?
- Jeremy Gilbert: No. No, I wanna go deeper, you know? I wanna understand why people were labeled as vampires back in the day. I mean, maybe there is such a thing as vampires. They're just different from the way we always thought they were.
- Anna: What do you mean?
- Jeremy Gilbert: Well, uh, maybe they're normal... and good. Just outsiders, you know? Um, misunderstood.
- Anna: You're kidding, right?
- Jeremy Gilbert: Don't you think it could be possible? You did give me all that info.
- Anna: Jeremy... I made it up, okay? You were all... cute and floppy... and I wanted to make a good first impression.
- Elena Gilbert: [walking up to friend standing alone] Caroline...
- Caroline Forbes: I don't wanna talk about it.
- [shakes her head]
- Elena Gilbert: You're being ridIculous.
- Caroline Forbes: And insecure and stupid... but that doesn't change the fact that Matt's always gonna be in love with you, and I'm always gonna be the backup.
- Elena Gilbert: You're not the backup.
- Caroline Forbes: Yes, I am. I'm Matt's Elena backup. I'm your Bonnie backup.
- Elena Gilbert: Now it's about me and Bonnie?
- [makes playful frown]
- Caroline Forbes: [shakes head, scoffs] You don't get it. Why would you? You're everyone's first choice.
- Matt Donovan: [visiting Salvatore mansion] Man, I always wanted to see what it looks like in this place.
- Stefan Salvatore: Yeah, I guess it's, uh, a bit much.
- Matt Donovan: [scoffs] Yeah, my entire house could fit in here, like, twice.
- Caroline Forbes: I feel like I've been here before. It's weird.
- Pearl Zhu: [to Damon] I have four hundred years on you, little boy. I'll tear you from limb to limb without even blinking, and you know it!
- Jeremy Gilbert: Anna!
- Anna: Surprised?
- Jeremy Gilbert: I thought you and your Mom left town.
- Anna: Change of plan. I'm sorry, I thought you'd... be psyched.
- Jeremy Gilbert: No, no, I mean, I am. Of course I am.
- Elena Gilbert: It would be nice to just get through one day without having to deal with any of this. No vampire mother or brother...
- Stefan Salvatore: No vampires... at all?
- Elena Gilbert: No vampires but you. I just wanna get back to normal stuff like... school and homework.
- [gasps]
- Elena Gilbert: And here's a thought: Fun.
- Stefan Salvatore: Oh. That sounds good to me. When do we start?
- [Elena giggles]
- Matt Donovan: [school hallway] We could watch a movie at my place.
- Caroline Forbes: Uh, with your Mom... and a six-pack?
- Matt Donovan: You know, you don't really help the situation. You could at least try to be nice.
- Caroline Forbes: [snickers] I'm sorry, it's hard for me to show kindness to people that hate me. I'm not that evolved.
- Caroline Forbes: Well, I don't like sports cars. They're too hard to make out in.
- Matt Donovan: No, it wasn't that bad.
- [stirring Elena's memory, causing him to sigh, and Caroline to go off]
- Caroline Forbes: [as Elena washes her hands in restroom] So, uhm... what are you doing?
- Elena Gilbert: [surprised by voice behind her] What?
- Caroline Forbes: Well, the point of this was to show him how much you care about Stefan, and not to hopscotch down memory lane.
- Elena Gilbert: I was just trying to make conversation.
- Caroline Forbes: Try less.
- [leaves in a huff]
