- When the body of a rich adventure-seeker is found in a hotel laundry machine, Booth and Brennan are led to the last place he was seen: a Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp. While Brennan and Booth lead the investigation outside the lab, Hodgins, Angela and intern Arastoo use a fragment of prehistoric woolly mammoth tusk - found with the remains - and Angela's knowledge of the music industry to connect the evidence to potential suspects. Meanwhile, Cam looks for a doctor for her daughter Michelle.—FOX Publicity
- We open inside a hotel laundry. One of the industrial washers appears to contain a foreign object. "It looks gooey," says a woman. Indeed. The object turns out to be a human skull! Bones (Emily Deschanel), Booth (David Boreanaz) and Camille (Tamara Taylor) are soon on the scene. Booth shows off his new tie: a gift from Catherine. "Interesting," Bones says. "By giving you a tie, Catherine has entered into a social contract." Camille, meanwhile, discovers a testicle in the washer. "Our victim was male," she quips. Back at the Jeffersonian, Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) discovers various fractures. "It does appear the victim was in the habit of injuring himself annually in a variety of risky behaviors," Bones notes. Also: a second testicle was never found.
Camille, in the meantime, looks for a gynecologist for Michelle (Tiffany Hines). The two appear to really hit it off. Camille makes a point to point out that she isn't married. "Call me Paul," the good doctor says. Sounds like a social contract to us. Back at the lab, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) has discovered a prosthetic testicle. Angela (Michaela Conlin) virtually reassembles the shattered sphere and discovers a serial number. The testicle belongs to Richard Cole, a wealthy real-estate developer and regular adventure seeker (fantasy camps for baseball, rock climbing, race-car driving, etc.). He was currently enrolled at a Rock 'n Roll fantasy camp.
B&B head to the camp to meet some of the campers, including pierced eyebrow Bebe (Molly Morgan) and purpled hair Gino (John Wynn). They tell B&B that Cole had been fighting with Simon Graham (Michael Des Barres), a producer running the fantasy weekend. A tattooed guitarist named Erik Dalton (Josh Todd) solos -- until Bones pulls the plug on his amp. Back at headquarters, Booth and Sweets (John Francis Daley) interview Simon, who more or less calls Cole a poseur. Turns out Cole was also going to buy and tear down a famous rock club in town. "Cole said he would leave the club alone if I let him do one song with Erik Dalton at the end of camp," Simon explains.
Back at the lab, Arastoo and Hodgins discuss baseball while searching for the cause of death. Arastoo is SHOCKED to discover remnants of a Wooly Mammoth. What the heck? Angela has an idea: the bone came from a guitar pick. "Different materials make different sounds," she explains. And what famous guitarist uses a pick made from Wooly Mammoth bone? Erik Dalton. Booth and Bones pay a visit to the rocker, who admits he didn't like Cole. Bones finds signs of a struggle as well as blood traces on the carpet.
Camille, in the meantime, takes Michelle to the doctor's office. Sure enough, Paul (Elon Gold) asks Cam out on a date -- and she agrees. "I would like that," Camille says. Back at the lab, Arastoo and Angela have discovered the cause of death to be blows to the head and chest. Camille, meanwhile, has examined the blood stains from Dalton's hotel room and determined TWO people bled on the carpet. One was the victim. The other? "Whoever it belongs to either has a panic disorder or epilepsy," explains Camille, who notes a certain drug was found in the sample. Who at the camp fits the bill?
Bones heads back to the camp, where Booth has his tie wrapped around his head and plays with drumsticks. Surprisingly, Bones picks up a guitar and begins to play. The two play/sing "Hot Blooded" -- and it's as awkward as one might expect (though not entirely clear whether the performance was intended to be cringe inducing). Suddenly, Bones gets a text message: camper Fred Keaton (Steven Hack) matches the second blood sample. Moments later, Keaton is in the hot seat. "We know you and Richard Cole had a fight in Erik Dalton's hotel room," Bones says. Keaton explains Cole pulled a prank on him, hiring an actor to play a Rolling Stone journalist offering Keaton his "big break." Keaton denies killing Cole, but says the arrogant rich guy "deserved" whatever he got.
Later, Angela theorizes Cole was beaten to death with a guitar. She also can identify the instrument by its shape: a "'57 Gibson Les Paul." And such a guitar costs around $250,000, so it probably wasn't a cash-strapped camper. Booth puts feelers to local collectors and catches a break: a woman with a pierced eyebrow attempted to see the guitar, which belonged to Cole. And who do we know with a pierced eyebrow? Bebe is soon in the hot seat. "We hooked up the first night of camp," she admits. Cole then confessed he planned on sleeping with EVERY woman in the camp -- so Bebe "snuck into Cole's room and stole his guitar." That said, she denies killing the man.
So who did? Sweets has a theory: "To a true music fan, the fact that Richard Cole was playing the ultimate guitar would be sacrilegious ... and the fact that the killer put it back in Cole's room rather than destroy it further demonstrates his reverence for Rock ''n Roll." Later, Michelle confronts Camille about dating her doctor. "You're dating my gynecologist!?" the teenager exclaims. "I can't go back to him now!" But that's OK. Michelle would rather her Cam date the man. "You need a life, for my sake," she says. "But don't go too fast. You're out of practice ... and find me a new doctor. A woman."
Hodgins, in the meantime, discovers cracks in the nickel-plating of the frets -- a result of chlorine. Bones notes there is a rooftop pool at the camp's hotel. Perhaps Cole was killed there -- and the killer washed the guitar in pool water. HOWEVER, the strings -- also made of nickel -- are NOT cracked. So the killer re-strung the guitar. And Hodgins finds a single hair on one of the strings. So it all comes down to finding a hair -- a purple one. And who do we know with purple hair? Turns out Gino also uses a Wooly Mammoth pick like his idol, Erik Dalton. B&B promptly arrest the wannabe guitarist.
Case closed, but not the episode. We end (again) with Bones and Booth having dinner at the pub. They tentatively discuss their respective dates with Catherine and Andrew. "Our partnership is still important to me," Bones suddenly says. "You know that right?"
