After being released exclusively in movie theaters this past January, the tricentennial-themed slasher movie Founders Day is now headed home courtesy of Dark Sky Films.
Founders Day will be released on at-home Digital on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
In this “bold political slasher” from the Bloomquist Brothers, a small town is shaken by a series of ominous killings in the days leading up to a heated mayoral election.
As accusations fly and the threat of a masked killer darkens every street corner, the residents must race to uncover the truth before fear consumes the town.
“We’re very happy to be partnering with the team at Dark Sky who know and love the power of genre cinema like we do,” said the Bloomquist brothers. “As the chaos of modern politics rages, The Founder is primed and ready to be unleashed on American audiences.”
Erik Bloomquist directed Founders Day, written by Erik and Carson Bloomquist.

Earlier this week, we learned that director Erik Bloomquist‘s slasher movie Founders Day has secured a North American distribution deal with Dark Sky Films, and the company is planning to give it a theatrical release sometime in the first quarter of 2024. In preparation for that release, the movie has also now secured a rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. Founders Day has been rated R for “strong bloody violence, language, and some sexual references.” So it delivers pretty much what you expect to see from a slasher movie.

On the way from Dark Sky Films, The Third Saturday in October is a highly unique experiment ripped straight out of the 1980s, and we’re getting Two movies on the same day!
First up, The Third Saturday in October Part V kicks off this throwback double feature, and it’s followed by The Third Saturday in October Part 1. Confused?
The Third Saturday in October Part V is technically the second entry in the slasher series– there are no Parts II, III, or IV- but the recommended starting point in your viewing.
Meagan Navarro explains in her review, “The Third Saturday in October Part V is a clever slasher parody that aims to recreate that feeling of renting Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan on a weekend because someone beat you to the video store and snatched up all the other entries first.” After you’ve seen it,...

I primarily associate distributor Dark Sky Films with Adam Green’s Hatchet / Victor Crowley slasher franchise – so it seems very appropriate that the company is now home to the old school style slasher franchise The Third Saturday in October! The two Third Saturday in October films have been making the festival rounds in recent months, and today Dark Sky Films has announced they will be giving them a VOD and digital release on May 5th!
The titles of these slashers are The Third Saturday in October: Part I and The Third Saturday in October: Part V… and if you think it’s confusing that we’re jumping right from one to five, here’s a little more information on exactly what these films are:
What if a lost horror franchise made during the peak of the slasher genre was unearthed today, but only two of the films could be restored?...

Dark Sky Films Brings The Third Saturday In October Part V + Part I to Digital/VOD May 5th: "What if a lost horror franchise made during the peak of the slasher genre was unearthed today, but only two of the films could be restored? Filmmaker Jay Burleson imagined just that with The Third Saturday In October: Part V and The Third Saturday In October: Part I coming to VOD + Digital Platforms May 5th from Dark Sky Films.
A double feature of terror, The Third Saturday In October Part V sees unstoppable killer Jakkariah Harding once again stalking and butchering the football-loving residents of a small Alabama town, this time finding a treasure trove of victims after he chances upon a football watch party. And then get ready to see how the horror began in The Third Saturday In October Part I, which tells the story of Harding's death row escape...
