Anachronisms
A New York street scene includes a billboard for the Dude Perfect YouTube channel, created in March 2009.
When Burry finishes brushing his teeth, water spots are on his shirt. When he sits down to continue his phone conversation, the water spots are gone.
Mark Baum (in real life, Steve Eisman) never lost a brother. It was the death of his infant son that so changed him. This detail was intentionally altered by the filmmakers at Eisman's request.
The quote in the opening credits attributed to Mark Twain was actually from Josh Billings, a 19th-century American humorist.
The end credits state that "When The Leeve Breaks" was written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bohnam (Led Zeppelin). It was originally written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. Led Zeppelin IV states that it was composed by Led Zeppelin/ Memphis Minnie.
Colette Divine appears when Jamie and Charlie make their ISDA pitch at JP Morgan Chase. In the end credits, she is identified as "B of A Lobby Security."
Dr. Michael J Burry is seen typing a letter to his investors on his computer. In the signature his surname is spelled with a single r.
In a scene set on January 11, 2007, people walk around New York City dressed in only suits and dresses, with no jackets, hats, or other cold weather gear. Later the same day, someone crosses the street wearing only shorts and a tee shirt. January 2007 was unseasonably warm in New York; the high temperature on January 7th was 72 degrees (22 Celsius).
Michael Burry had a prosthetic eye, but both of his eyes move in unison on several occasions. Not all glass eyes are stationary.
When Margot Robbie appears in the bathtub scene, she picks up her glass in the side shot, and then again in the front shot. However this movie has frequent stylized continuity errors, and it isn't impossible to see this as the same thing.
When Charlie and Jamie start their fund in a garage in Boulder, they use blue laptops with Microsoft logos. Those laptops didn't exist in 2007, and they still don't. They're solely for Microsoft product placement in TV and film.
The Las Vegas conference takes place in January, and characters are in the outdoor pool at Caesar's. Las Vegas pools are closed in January. They usually open in the beginning of May.
Michael Burry supposedly discovers the rising number of risky mortgages by going through a huge spreadsheet. However, the movie shows these defaults in a single text column with many blanks and an occasional colloquial description, such as "30 months" for how long a mortgage is overdue.
The spreadsheet has no additional column containing the number of months (or zeros for no defaults), by which Burry could sort the whole data set to observe this information, and sorting via the column shown won't work (since for example "5 months" sorts later than "40 months" alphanumerically).

In the brief shot of the exterior of The Black Horse pub, a gold pillar box (post box) is visible. Pillar boxes are normally red. Several were painted gold in neighborhoods where 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winners lived.
Mark's Rolex watch is a model 116610, introduced in 2010.
In a scene set in 2005, Mark Baum walks past an Audi Q5. The Q5 was introduced in 2008, and was available in North America in 2009.
In Vegas, a shirtless man in the background has a Bud Light Platinum, which was released in 2012.
When Mark talks to his wife on the phone, the bus stop has an ad for Stitchers (2015), which premiered in 2015.
When Charlie and Jamie leave their hotel in Las Vegas, the camera is visible behind them, reflected in the shiny gold doors.
At 1:54:27 (blu ray) a boom mic operator is visible on the right side of the screen holding up the boom mic.
When Porter and his coworker visit the failing housing subdivision outside Miami, a home under construction has conventional wood-framed walls. The Florida Building Code has not permitted stick-built homes since 2002, due to hurricanes. Newly-constructed homes in Florida must be constructed with concrete block.
While the guys explore an abandoned home in Miami, the pile of junk mail includes a Ralph's Grocery Store receipt. Ralph's are only found in Southern California.
When Ben Rickert is in the Black Horse pub in England, the bartender and punters all have London accents. The pub is near Exmouth, in Devon, southwest of London, and the regional accent is very different.
Newcastle Brown Ale is available as a draft beer at the Black Horse pub. Newcastle Brown is not sold on draft in England.
Standard & Poor's office is shown at 25 Broadway in 2007. It's actually located at 55 Water Street.
The quote, "And Caesar wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer." is wrong. It was Alexander the Great who wept.
Jared Vennett receives a bonus check that spells 40 "fourty."
In Las Vegas, when Charlie and Jamie are shorting the AA bonds, a U.S. Marine plays a slot machine in his camouflage utility uniform. Marines are not allowed to wear their utility uniforms off of a military instillation outside of emergencies. Playing at a casino is not an emergency.
In the night club where Jarred Vennet is seen in person for the first time, Lawrence Field first finds out from Randall about the deal on the credit default swaps, and says that he didn't know there was such a thing. When he then tells Vennet about them, he says said "Word is he hit half the town." Randall never told him that.
