It’s that time again. I mean, this happens from time to time when WWE are wanting to shake up their television programming and this year is no different. As we enter into Autumn, WWE have announced a new WWE Draft will take place, beginning this Friday, the 9th of October, on WWE Smackdown.
So, as is customary with many sports, I thought we here at Nerdly would jump into the “fantasy draft” game, and pick who we’d put where. Now, I’m treating this as an almost-complete overhaul of talent, with everyone being an option to be drafted Except for current reigning, defending champions. So, Bayley won’t be eligible as she’s the Smackdown Women’s Champion, and Drew McIntyre won’t be eligible as the WWE Champ, and Damien Priest, the Nxt North American Champion, also won’t be able to be drafted, and so on,...

Match #1: Rhea Ripley def. Bianca Belair The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
They say the enemy of your enemy is your friend, and that holds true for Candice LeRae in the case of Io Shirai. Rhea Ripley’s bout with Bianca Belair showcased two of the Nxt Women’s division’s most powerful competitors trading tests of strength and athleticism. Neither was able to gain much of an advantage in the evenly matched bout until Shirai arrived to try to spoil things for Ripley, apparently not...

Florida Georgia Line have released “People Are Different,” the latest track from the group’s upcoming 2019 album Can’t Say I Ain’t Country.
Following in a similar path to recent hits like Kenny Chesney’s “Get Along” and Luke Bryan’s “Most People Are Good,” Fgl’s latest offering, a pensive down-tempo soft-rock ballad, preaches the embracing of difference and diversity, “no matter what shape, no matter what color.”
The track features lead singer Tyler Hubbard rattling off a list of opposites: “Left wing / right wing / jailhouse / freedom ring / old-school / new-school / everything in between,...

Match #1: El Hijo de La Park defeated Sammy Guevara The following is courtesy of Mlw.com:
It wasn’t long ago that Salina de la Renta and Promociones Dorado represented Sammy Guevara, but when Guevara didn’t bring home the winner’s purse enough for de la Renta’s liking, she unceremoniously fired him over the phone. Adding insult to injury, de la Renta delivered Guevara’s pink slip while in her Jacuzzi, filmed it and released it via social media. Guevara returned to Mlw looking for a little payback, while both grapplers were looking to impress League officials in an effort to move up the rankings in the Middleweight division. In the end, de la Renta felt...

Dancing Road Productions is seeking stories with female protagonists, written by women..
"Women creatives and voices are vastly underrepresented in screen storytelling and we need to address this issue front on", the company said in a statement.
"Screen Australia figures show that the imbalance is most notable in traditional film, with women accounting for 32% of producers, 23% of writers and only 16% of directors".
"We at Dancing Road are keen to attract more talented women into our industry and find audience-pleasing stories that entertain and stimulate. If successful your idea would be developed into a feature film, so we want fascinating characters, a strong concept and it must make us smile"!.
"The first step is to send us a one pager outlining your concept. So women writers, heed the call"!.
Dancing Road is run by Helen Leake (Wolf Creek 2, Heaven's Burning, Swerve, Black and White) and Gena Ashwell (Gridiron UK).

Actor-turned-director Nick Barkla has completed his first project, documentary Inside Fighter, and is developing a feature drama and another doco.
Inside Fighter follows Australian pro boxer Frank LoPorto, who was 33 when he had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight Wba world light middleweight champion Austin Trout in El Paso, Texas.
Given just five weeks to prepare for the championship bout as a replacement for a boxer who broke his hand, LoPorto was beaten badly, causing him shame and embarrassment.
The 50-minute film will have its world premiere at the St Tropez Antipodes Film Festival next week after Barkla scored an invite from the festival.s president Bernard Bories, whom he met at Miff this year.
Film Victoria funded the development of the screenplay but Barkla funded 90% of the production from his own pockets.

With his iconic laugh and maniacal mean streak, Wolf Creek's Mick Taylor is on par with Baby Firefly as one of the coolest cinematic killers – just not nearly as attractive. John Jarratt brings Mick to a new low as the gritty, downright dirty evildoer from Down Under in the long-awaited sequel.
Inventively entitled Wolf Creek 2, the flick is due out in theaters on May 16th. We got the chance to pick John’s brain (before Mick could pick ours – thank goodness the interview was done over the phone), and here’s what he had to say to all the horror fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting his return.
Dread Central: It has been a long time between the Wolf Creek films; can you tell us why the delay for Mick’s return?

Reminds me of the story of The Merchant of Baghdad.
Despite its cover, which looks like a harrowing, rural-gothic affair of violence and nihilism of the Cormac McCarthy variety, Swerve is actually a cheeky crime-thriller with a dark sense of humor. Like an Australian version of 2 Days in the Valley (1996) with fewer characters and less style. Written and directed by Craig Lahiff, Swerve has wound is way into the Cohen collection as yet another piece of indie entertainment. Forget about competing with Criterion, this title is a better fit at IFC tab among any catalog of purportedly "important" films. No film should be judged by the company it keeps, but when an Aussie caper sits next to a film by D. W. Griffith, it makes you wonder what Cohen thinks they have.

Pulsing with menace, called “seductive and thrilling” and compared to Hitchcock and early Coen brothers by The Hollywood Reporter, Swerve is a modern take on classic film noir. It comes to high-definition DVD and Blu-ray from Cohen Media Group on March 18, 2014, with SRPs, respectively, of $34.98 and $24.98.
While driving cross-country to a job interview, Colin (David Lyons TV’s Revolution, Eat Pray Love) witnesses a two-car crash that leaves one driver decapitated. The good-hearted Colin pulls a beautiful and mysterious young woman, Jina (Emma Booth, Parker, The Boys Are Back), from the wreckage, along with a suitcase full of money. But soon, he becomes entangled with a crooked local cop (Jason Clarke, Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby) – who happens to be the very jealous husband of Jina – as well a murderous thug (Travis McMahon, Cactus) who is after the cash. The good-hearted Colin pulls a beautiful and mysterious young woman, Jina (Booth), from the wreckage, along with a suitcase full of money. But soon, he becomes entangled with a crooked local cop (Clarke) – who happens to be the very jealous husband of Jina – as well a murderous thug (Travis McMahon, Cactus) who is after the cash. Yikes.
Written and directed by Aussie filmmaker Craig Lahiff, Swerve is premiering on disc and on VOD in the U.S.

"10 minutes won't change my life," Colin (David Lyons) quips at a juncture during "Swerve," and of course, those words are soon prophetic. The Aussie thriller written and directed by Craig Lahiff is set in a small outback town called Neverest (get it?) for a reason: over the next 86 minutes, there will be few moments of pause for any of the characters ensnared in this film noir-style tale, but unfortunately it eventually comes at the expense of an already stretched thin suspension of disbelief. While the issues of the film are myriad, they are all connected by a certain gracelessness both in the script and in execution that mars the movie right from its overly complicated opening. Essentially, a double cross during a drug deal leaves one man dead, and another beheaded following a car accident with two other vehicles. In one car is the aforementioned Colin, who is quickly established as the film's everyman.

This weekend, Oscar Isaac navigates the early 1960s folk scene as he determinedly searches for success in "Inside Llewyn Davis," and Christian Bale proves a brothers' bond has no limits in the dramatic "Out of the Furnace."
The newest Coen brothers' film, "Inside Llewyn Davis," stars Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, and Carey Mulligan as aspiring folk musicians in 1960s Greenwich Village. The story follows Davis (Isaac) over a one-week period as he traverses the local music scene and attempts to make a name for himself, all while staying true to his art. "Inside Llewyn Davis," the Coens' first film since 2010's "True Grit," has been making the rounds on the festival circuit since May, when the film premiered at Cannes and won its Grand Prix award.

The best film noirs aren't just about the twisted schemes and desires of the characters trying to pull one over, but they instead dig into what drives our behavior and ambitions. And the upcoming Aussie thriller "Swerve" seems to be reaching for those heights. Starring Jason Clarke, Emma Booth and David Lyons, and written and directed by Craig Lahiff, the story is set against the Australian outback where a man stumbles across a car accident, and finds a suitcase stacked with cash. He does the right thing and turns it in but is soon caught between a twisted police officer and his femme fatale wife. In this exclusive clip, we see all three leads in a poolside sequence brimming with sex and tension, as Clarke quickly asserts himself as the dominant figure in this trio. "Swerve" opens in limited release this Friday, December 6th. Watch below.

Colin (David Lyons) has apparently never seen a crime film; otherwise, he'd know that you never take a mysterious briefcase full of cash, unless you're actively interested in courting trouble. To his credit, Colin at least takes said stash of money to the police after he finds it, post-car-crash, in a dead man's vehicle.
Alas, even that good deed is posited by Swerve as a potentially mortal mistake, since local small-town Aussie cop Frank (Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke) turns out to be a raging lunatic, and his wife, Jina (Emma Booth), is an equally untrustworthy femme fatale.
The ensuing mess of complications that ensnare Colin — a bland good guy who claims that "honesty's one of my weak points" — are scripted by writer-director Craig Lahiff ...

Swerve is as much a “thriller” as turkey bacon is bacon – and if you understand my feelings on bacon, you’ll know that turkey bacon is nothing but a cheap, farcical wannabe. Heading down under for Craig Lahiff’s latest film didn’t provide the exotic joys I wished for, as this imitation Coen brothers crime film fails to create the quirky, tense atmosphere it so reaches for. There’s guns, girls, and shrimp on the barbie, but nothing comes together in a very fun-filled way. This action ride feels like it’s gliding on cruise-control the whole time, with each twist and turn only being a minor speed-bump along the way. Yeah, this thing only goes from about 0 to 25, and takes a while to do so, circling the same track we’ve seen over, and over, and over, and over…you get my Tokyo Drift (So Many Car Puns!

Title: Swerve Director: Craig Lahiff Starring: David Lyons, Emma Booth, Jason Clarke and Travis McMahon It can often be difficult to decipher the motivations and feelings of people you barely know, as their inspirations can be quite different from what you expect. That’s certainly the case for not only the characters’ interactions with each other in the Australian crime dram thriller ‘Swerve,’ from writer-director Craig Lahiff, but also the filmmaker’s intentions for the story. While the actors in the film formed genuine, gripping working relationships that continuously question their characters’ truthfulness, at times Lahiff’s story unfortunately comes across as confusing. ‘Swerve’ follows Colin (David Lyons), a drifter traveling across the [ Read More ]

A suitcase full of money, a crooked cop, a femme fatale and plans gone wrong... It sounds like something we've seen before, but with the usually solid Jason Clarke ("Lawless," "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Great Gatsby," "White House Down") in the lead, "Swerve" is one we'll definitely be checking out. Co-starring Emma Booth and David Lyons, the story is set against the Australian outback where a man stumbles across a car accident, but more importantly, a suitcase stacked with cash. He does the right thing and turns it in but soon he's ensnared in the lives of a twisted police officer, his seductive wife, and as you might guess, he'll probably have to fight for his life. Again, this seems pretty standard but we are intrigued by The Hollywood Reporter review which drops Alfred Hitchcock, the Coen Brothers, James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler as reference points. "Swerve" opens in limited release on December 6th.

Following breakthrough roles in films like Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless and The Great Gatsby over the past year (as well as a turn in White House Down), Australian actor Jason Clarke is making quite a name for himself. Next year, we'll see him in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but before that, audiences can check him out in a thriller called Swerve. The film from down under follows a man (David Lyons) who happens upon a road accident where he finds a dead man, a beautiful woman, and a suitcase full of money. Us screenwriter Ellen Fontana knew almost instantly when she first met Emma Booth two weeks ago that the actress is an inspired choice to play one of the main protagonists in the film Shallows.
Booth will play the fiercely independent Queenie in the drama based on the Tim Winton novel which looks at successive generations of a whaling family in Albany, Western Australia, starting in the 1830s.
Queenie gets caught up in the Greenpeace movement which arrived in town in the 1970s, sparking protests which led to the closure of the whaling station.

The sequel to Australia’s highest grossing R-rated film ever has started production in South Australia after long delays.
Wolf Creek 2 has begun principal photography, again helmed by writer-director-producer Greg Mclean.
It will be a welcome relief to Mclean after the film struggled to get off the ground due to financing issues. In 2011 private investor Geoffrey Edelsten agreed to $5m investment but was later accused of failing to honour his commitment.
In a counter-suit, Edelsten claimed he was misled into being the major private investor.
The film was back on track by September but Edelsten has not returned as an investor in the project.
However the film does see the return of notorious pig hunter Mick Taylor played by John Jarrett, currently seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

Wolf Creek 2 has started principal photography in South Australia, with John Jarratt once again stepping into the role of sadistic serial killer Mick Taylor. Cambridge Film Festival, Cambridge
With premieres and high-profile previews to spare, this festival caters to more than just the local crowd. Here's the first place you'll see Woody Allen's latest (To Rome With Love), Pete Doherty's acting debut (Confession Of A Child Of The Century), plus hot new features like On The Road and Holy Motors. There's a considerable spread, including family films, horror, music docs, Hitchcock, and little-seen work from Catalonia and Estonia. Meanwhile this festival also has some of the best outdoor screenings – including Jaws (in a swimming pool!), Moonrise Kingdom and silent sci-fi Aelita, Queen Of Mars.
Various venues, Thu to 23 Sep
