Director Nobuhiko Obayashi's first film (or second film, depending on your sources) follows a mother and what appears to be her child having fun together playing ball games at a park. It's not all that of an interesting plot and despite its short runtime, it's kinda tedious.
The plot is simple, but hard to follow because of awkward cuts and non-linear storytelling. Some aspects of it, like the mother tearing up some pieces of paper, as well as the puzzling appearance of some two guys walking by the park, make it a bit confusing. Or maybe it's a culture thing. Or an author's thing. Who knows.
However, this movie does have one interesting detail going for it. I'm talking about the part when the ball starts bouncing down the stairs, and the camera actually shifts into the ball's POV shot, which looks kinda cool. Also, some of Obayashi's trademark director characteristics (piano music, silent film, childish atmosphere, magic realism) are also present.
