At first I thought he was going to be some braindead conservative from Texas because he starts off making some comments about covid that make it sound like he thinks the pandemic was fake, but he's not. It's good, it's not some ignorant BS. He actually goes on to talk about how he got covid TWICE. He does a good job making current events funny and then moves onto some multi-cultural jokes that are also quite good.

As an Israeli I must say it was pretty funny, even the parts about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were surprisingly balanced, which is very appreciated in a time when it is too easy to be antisemitic.
I must say that the part about Hummus made me a bit mad. First of all, Hebrew does have an equivalent of Ha (Arabic 6th letter), it is called Heth (Hebrew 8th letter), which is different from Khaf (Hebrew 20th letter), and that's the letter we use for hummus. Second, hummus was actually mentioned in the bible (look it up), which means that hummus was in Israel thousands of years ago. Third, even if the letter-equivalent thing was true (which is not), it's a bit like Palestinian can't say the word Palestine (they say Balestine) because they don't have an equivalent for P. Does it mean anything about their authenticity? I don't think so. Nonetheless, Israeli-Arabic hummus is better than Israeli-Jewish hummus.
Anyway, apart from the hummus part it was really funny. The part about covid was hilarious, and the last part (about him returning to his home) was emotional.
Good job Mo, waiting for your next special!

I agree with everybody, and disagree with everybody

I have read the positive reviews and I agree with what most have to say.
I have read the negative reviews and I agree with what most have to say.
I enjoyed it from an unobjective persepctive.
The problem is people. The problem is the people who liked it, and the people who didn't like it.
The general consensus is us all getting along. Everybody looks to what appeases them and decides if they enjoy it. Others hear what displeases them and speak against it.
I found it to be funny. I also found some parts to be short-sighted and ignorant. The one thing that sickens me in society is the generalisation of "White" people. Its disgusting. Period.
Despite this, i ignored my brain and emotions telling me i'm upset and chose not to be and enjoyed the rest of the show.
It really is a disparaging subject, and has been for decades, and nobody gives a damn because its "Just Whites". I'd like to see him, or anyone take a stand for equality and express the "White" peoples plight and struggles.
He does a lot of voices/impressions; derogatorily so, generated towards "Whites". The funny thing is, "White" comedians can't do voices anymore or they are "racist". So all the people loving this are secretly racist? You see the double-standard here?
So yeah, i agree it was funny, I also agree its very hypocritical to argue anyone who doesn't like it.
At the end of the day, I give it a 7/10. Really wasn't great, but it was decent. I liked it. Seems like he would be a cool dude to grab a beer with.
(Honestly could have done without his MMA commentary. Connor Mac, GSP, Nuñes all better legacies that Khabib, but he's Muslim so, I guess he's gonna root for his kin...d)

An established comedian

Mo does an excellent job in being relatable and funny at the same time. This special was one of the most memorable from Netflix's collection. There is something about how Mohammad speaks that just keeps you entertained. It's been a rough 19 months for everyone and this special allows you to find a way to look back and laugh at what we are going through. Inshallah more specials in the future from Mo.
Fun!

If you're arab or even muslim or have a arab background, you will laugh your ass off.
Its really funny and it gets a little emotional at the end.
Some people might not understand it because this special is very...cultural.
He talks about his home country a lot.

An amazing special by a more special comedian

I didn't want this special to end I could've been watching for hours. Mo Amer does an amazing job connecting his heritage and experiences into his work and makes it enjoyable and hilarious for everyone watching. His accents are top tier and he nails every single one and does it in a way that connects it to his story and makes you laugh as well. I can't wait for his next work and loved watching this movie.
Mo is a rising star, you should watch

Warning: Spoilers
He is the next famous star. Why you should watch this? He is brilliant in giving you a lesson in history, language, culture, and MUCH MORE!! He is amazing in mimicking languages and gestures. You should watch the show from A to Z.
At the beginning you might think he is spending a lot of time on the COVID thing and you might think he keeps repeating it until he moves to the next part which makes you realize he was so brilliant in describing the COVID part, he nailed this part, he was the best comedian to talk about COVID part better than Kevin Hart and Dave Chapelle when they talked about COVID.
You will enjoy the flow of the show especially when he teaches you some Arabic words, then you will get amazed when he uses one of the words at the end of the show, you will really say WOOOOW that was really connected and symbolic. The way he talks about Hummus part will make you want to have home-made Palestinian Hummus because he makes it feels so delicious though he was brilliant to use Hummus part to show how politics is played and to show the injustice played against his relatives in Palestine. This guy is originally from Palestine and he is a proud American, but what I found astonishing is that some Israelis reviewed this show and commented that even as Israelis they have liked this show of a Palestinian comedian.
The film at the end of the show with his family was so touching, my eyes teared watching that part of the show, it made me cry, smile, laugh, get amazed and get excited to watch his next show "The Vagabond". The fact that he is a friend with Dave Chapelle made me respect him more, Dave and Mo will always be at the top of my list.

Huge dropoff from Vagabond

Not remotely close to funny!
kadi6195 September 2022
Okay it's basically him yelling and shouting and repeating his lines over and over and over again. He's walking around winded breathing heavy and yelling Mixed in with name dropping. "Movie with the rock" "chappelle gave me covid." "Bradley cooper talked to me".
30 mins in now, didn't even smile. Not once. What's weird is the crowd, what are they laughing at? Are they encouraging him? Are they being qued? Have they never seen comedy? He didn't say a single funny thing. Not funny stupid, not funny dark, not funny satirical, just not funny.
Don't waste your time. Unless u wanna see a big guy yelling, breathing heavily and fake laughing at the end of every sentence he says n then repeats the last bit again but in a much louder voice.

Bad reviews are coming from a place of ignorance

Mo Amer's life story is a prerequisite to his standups. I found myself wondering what would I say if I didn't see his previous work or read about his journey.
His honesty and unapologetic approaches to subjects is what makes him appealing to people around him. You don't have to love him, but you need to honestly ask yourself why you don't!
Looking forward to the next chapter in your story, bro Mo!

A Marker In History
studentuser-881566 December 2021
Comedy as it's intended to is meant to push against the norm and point out the social issues of modern society. What Mohammed Amer has done is use his platform as a Palestinian comedian to speak out about the injustices of Israel against the Palestinians. When I imagine 10 years down the line as we continue to fight for Palestinian rights, I imagine that we reflect back on comedians like Mohammed who had enough bravery to stand up in front of an entire crowd and authentically represent not only himself as a Palestinian but also what a modern Middle Eastern Muslim looks like. Representation is incredibly important, and Mohammed has marked this moment as what it means to be Palestinian affected by American and Israeli injustices. And that is not something to sleep on.
Well, The Rock was great

Mo himself, however: okay at first, until it gradually became clear that his 'style' involved shouting the point or the question or the phrase many, many . . . Many times in a very loud voice. Over and over.
This was okay at first. When it persisted and seemed to be what one would be subjected should one watch all the way to the end, this one decided no, not so much.
TOO ANNOYING. GRATING even. Now I know guidelines suggest not doing all caps in reviews, but HE was shouting at me in all caps the whole time I listened, so fair's fair . . .

It's like he's trying to sound and act like Hannibal Burres
backup-5036211 December 2021
Except Hannibal Burres is funny. This guy? I don't know what happened, when they get a second Netflix deal they all go downhill, and this dude plummeted hard. Not just him, I see other comedians who are objectivity good just start sucking hard once Netflix gets a hold of them. The Netflix curse, lol. It affects all forms of video entertainment.
Here's how to be a generic, uninspired, unoriginal, cringey Netflix comedian (and this guy hits all the spots):
Like I said, he did all of this generic garbage, so no surprise at the ratings there.
Also his little divisive political tangent, right after pretending he's all about unity, was really funny for all the wrong reasons:
"If you're white - you're just "white", everyone else has something before "American", like "Arab American" and "Native American".
I guess this guy's never heard of Italian American, Irish American, Russian American, even though he talked about a Russian guy minutes ago.
So yeah, this is just getting pathetic.
Here's how to be a generic, uninspired, unoriginal, cringey Netflix comedian (and this guy hits all the spots):
- Bring up Trump politics years after he's no longer relevant, and everyone's more than tired of hearing it
- Pander to women A LOT, to the point that it feels like a feminist rally and even the women in the audience look tired from the generic garbage pandering they're hearing
- Pander to minorities so they get manipulated into thinking that you're one of them, despite you being a privileged American
- Steal some old Ricky Gervais airplane jokes from his much older special that's also on Netflix
