The levees ain’t broken.
For the first time ever, a father-and-son duo served as hosts of the Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast, and fans clearly liked what they saw. Eugene Levy and Dan Levy received an “A” grade from the vast majority of Emmys viewers who voted in Gold Derby’s overnight poll. In fact, a whopping 68% of respondents called them “brilliant from start to finish” — not too shabby! Here are the rest of the poll results:
26%: “B — I rather liked them”
3%: “C — They were just okay”
2%: “F — Awful, awful, awful!”
1%: “D — Somewhat forgettable”
SEEEmmy winners: Full list
During their opening monologue (watch above), Eugene and Dan reflected back more than seven decades to the very first Emmys host, Walter O’Keefe. The duo stayed away from political humor and instead made jokes about the industry at large. “Welcome, everybody, to the 76th Emmy Awards,” Dan began,...

It’s been four years since Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy were the toasts of the Emmy Awards at the Covid-impacted 2020 ceremony with their massive haul for the comedy series “Schitt’s Creek.” This year for the 76th Emmys, they’re back as co-hosts of the show – the first time a father and son have presided over the festivities. The men said going in, “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough.”
But incentive will take you only so far. How did the Levys do Sunday night on ABC as the 2024 Emmy hosts? Grade their performance in our poll below.

Update, with video: Emmys co-hosts Eugene Levy and son Dan Levy, the award-winning stars of Schitt’s Creek, got tonight’s ceremony off to a gentle but no less funny start tonight, with the elder Levy working in no fewer than two jokes aimed at his old Sctv pal Martin Short.
When Dan Levy told the audience that his last name is pronounced “Leh-vee” and not “Lee-vee,” Eugene said, if the opening monologue goes south “my name is pronounced Martin Short.” At the end of the monologue, Eugene introduced first presenters Steve Martin and Short as the latest contestants on The Golden Bachelor.
The first father-son duo to host the Emmys, the pair made some fine self-deprecating jokes – Eugene had hoped, Dan said, to get them cast by Ryan Murphy as the Menendez Brothers – and also took some good-hearted swipes at this evening’s nominees.

Dan and Eugene Levy took the stage at the top of the Emmys on Sunday night to kick off the awards show on ABC with jokes galore, including a roast of “The Bear.”
The opening segment of the 76th annual Emmy awards saw the duo (who mark the first-ever father and son to host TV’s biggest night) playfully grill the FX on Hulu series: “‘The Bear’ is nominated for 23 Emmys tonight, making it the most-nominated comedy in history,” Eugene Levy said. “Now, I love the show, and I know some of you will be expecting us to make a joke about whether ‘The Bear’ is really a comedy — but in the true spirit of ‘The Bear,’ we will not be making any jokes.”
The jokes centering Disney properties didn’t end there, with the Levys noting that FX on Hulu’s “Shōgun” already took home 14 Emmys at last week’s Creative Arts awards show,...

ABC has shared its first promo for this year’s 76th Emmys, hosted by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy — and for the spot they’re going high-brow — er, eyebrow. Yep, it’s probably appropriate that the first father-son Emmy hosting duo kick things off with a dad joke.
In the spot, Dan warns his dad not to aim for a low-hanging eyebrows gag. But Eugene can’t resist. The promo was released on Tuesday night during ABC’s primetime lineup — which included “The Bachelorette” season finale. And the ad also comes as the Television Academy kicks the month of Emmy Awards into high gear, with the Creative Arts Emmys this weekend, Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, at the Peacock Theatre in downtown LA.
Earlier Tuesday, the Television Academy has revealed the first batch of presenters for night one of this weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys. Names include LeVar Burton, Mark Cuban, Nikki Glaser,...

Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy continue to make Emmy history. Four years ago, their comedy series “Schitt’s Creek” won a staggering nine Emmys including best comedy series, actor, actress, supporting actors, writing and directing. Even before “Schitt’s Creek,” Eugene was no stranger to the Emmy universe, winning statutes in 1982 and 1983 as a writer on the beloved “Sctv.” In fact, Dan was just a month old when his dad received his second honor.
Eugene’s nominated this year for the 14th time for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special for Apple TV +’ “The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy.” Now Eugene and Dan will be the first father and son to host the Emmys airing Sept. 15 on ABC. And here’s bit more history: the 77-year-old Eugene is the oldest Emmy host ever.

Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy will host the 76th Emmy Awards on Sunday, 15 September 2024. This will be the first time a father-and-son duo has hosted the Emmy Awards.
“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts,” said Cris Abrego, Chairman of the Television Academy. “Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”

Schitt's Creek co-creators, stars, and father and son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are set to host the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. This will mark the first time a father and son have shared hosting duties, and it would be hard to find a pair better suited to the task. Although this is the first time the two serve as hosts, they're not precisely Emmy newbies. The Levys have been on the receiving end of a number of awards each: Eugene earned two Emmys for his work on the sketch comedy series Sctv Network 90 and two for Schitt's Creek, while Dan's wins stemmed from his work on the latter show. Besides earning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, Dan earned directing and writing wins for his work on the series' finale.

Of the many tableaux that TV fans expected to watch this season, Eugene Levy tearing up while standing in a Glasgow synagogue wearing a tartan-patterned yarmulke was probably not high on the list.
But there he was, seeking out where his mother’s Eastern European refugee family had prayed a century ago, in one of the many insightful and slyly warm moments from The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy.
“He didn’t know exactly what he was going to be walking into,” David Brindley, executive producer of the Apple TV+ series, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“I think it was in him to want to do these [kinds of] things. He just didn’t know it,” adds writer David Reilly.

The Television Academy and ABC have selected Eugene and Dan Levy to serve as hosts for the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony in September 2024. Eugene and Dan Levy, known for creating and starring in the hit sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” will become the first father-son duo to jointly host the prestigious award show. The ceremony will take place on September 15, 2024 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and air live on ABC.
Eugene and Dan expressed excitement about hosting the Emmys together in a joint statement. “As Canadians who accepted our Emmy awards during the pandemic, being asked to host the ceremony in an actual theater is very motivating,” they said. They look forward to toasting the outstanding television of the past year with the audience.
The selection comes after the Levys’ historic wins at the 2020 Emmy Awards, where they made history as the first father-son hosts to receive awards in the same year.

ABC will indeed outsource hosting duties of the Emmys this year, tapping the father-son duo of Eugene and Dan Levy to emcee the Sept. 15 telecast.
The Levys, who enjoyed a particularly fruitful Emmys in 2020 when Schitt’s Creek won every major comedy category in an unprecedented sweep, are an unconventional choice in that neither currently appears on a Disney property. But their opening of the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards proved they are well up to the task — and after a protracted negotiation, they’re now set to take the stage at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live.
The question of who will host the Emmys is an increasingly muddy question. For decades, the duties typically went to whatever funny woman or man was bubbling up on whatever network had the broadcasting rights. But as the four networks who make up the “wheel” of the rotating telecast have slimmer comedy offerings,...

With less than a month to go before the 76th Emmy Awards, the telecast’s hosts are finally set. As expected, the father-son duo of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will emcee this year’s Emmys, which take place on Sunday, Sept. 15, live on ABC.
The two made history in 2020 as the first father and son to win major awards in the same year, thanks to “Schitt’s Creek.” That year — in which winners appeared remotely, due to the Covid-19 pandemic — saw Eugene Levy win for outstanding comedy actor and Dan Levy win for supporting comedy actor. Dan Levy also picked up wins for writing and directing, while both won the outstanding comedy series Emmy as exec producers.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a joint statement.

It’s official: Eugene Levy and Dan Levy have closed deals to host the 76th Emmy Awards Sept. 15 on ABC. As Deadline reported last week, the Levys, who in 2020 became the first father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year, will now be the first father-son team to host the awards show.
Eugene and Dan Levy reflected on their Emmys for Schitt’s Creek, whose final season set a comedy series record for most wins in a single year, nine, at the pandemic-impacted 2020 Emmy Awards on ABC.

It’s a family reunion at the Emmys, as Eugene and Dan Levy are in talks to host the 76th kudocast on ABC, taking place Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
The father-son duo, who co-created “Schitt’s Creek” and each won Emmys for it, are currently in negotiations with the Television Academy, and a deal has not yet been struck, sources tell Variety. Neither the Television Academy, nor representatives for the Levys, returned Variety‘s request for comment.
Eugene and Dan Levy have presented together at awards ceremonies, including the 2020 SAG Awards, and once guest-hosted “Ellen” as a duo.
In their six-season CBC comedy “Schitt’s Creek,” they played father and son Johnny and David Rose, whose family, after an embezzlement scheme, is forced to move out of their mansion and into a motel in Schitt’s Creek, a town they once bought as a joke.

It has been two long years for fans of Severance, Apple TV+'s mind-bending original series. Though the upcoming second season has been shrouded in mystery, the streamer recently posted a cryptic video, teasing what is to come.
The recently posted clip comes via Apple TV+'s X account, and is a brief fifteen-second clip accompanied by the show's theme song, which shows a dimly lit elevator that is blinking red. However, fans of the show have already deduced that the blinking light is Morse code for "tomorrow," indicating that more news or possibly even a trailer is on the way. The only other glimpse fans have received for the second season, was a trailer promoting the upcoming slate for Apple TV+'s future projects that was released in early June.

Today, Apple TV+ announced a third season renewal for the multi-award-winning travel series The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy, hosted and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Eugene Levy (Schitt’s Creek).
The eight-episode third season will follow Levy on a global adventure as he attempts to curate his ‘ultimate travel bucket list.’ If he’s to inch closer to becoming a real traveler, he’ll need to tick off some of the world’s must-do experiences. The trouble is, he doesn’t have a clue where to start.

Hailed as “dazzling, delightful…and gorgeously filmed,” and “perhaps the perfect blend of travel documentary and pure comedy,” the series features host Eugene Levy, who is “an absolute delight to watch” and “endlessly entertaining.”

For a guy who admits he doesn’t enjoy the hassle of going through airport security and the inevitable inconveniences of international travel, Eugene Levy has been getting around quite a bit lately.
The actor, writer and Schitt’s Creek Emmy winner hopscotches throughout Europe – Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Scotland and more – in the second season of his nonfiction series The Reluctant Traveler, now streaming on Apple TV+. As the title of the series suggests, he’s not a “Heck yeah, I’m up for anything!” kind of guy, and part of the charm of the show is seeing him tiptoe beyond his comfort zone.
Levy joins the latest edition of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast to discuss what he’s learned about the world and himself while making the show, which is in contention for Emmy consideration. He also explains what finally convinced him to sign onto the series after he turned it down initially.

In season two of his Apple docuseries The Reluctant Traveler, Eugene Levy explores parts of Europe that may be overlooked for bigger, more well-known cities.
Instead of Madrid or Barcelona, he visits Andalusia, Spain. The Schitt’s Creek star forgoes Mykonos or Santorini for life on the tiny Greek island of Milos. He finds himself in Sylt, Germany, as opposed to major cities like Berlin or Munich.
Ahead of each season, the Reluctant Traveler production team scouts out possible locations for the Emmy-winning actor, comedian and nervous globe-trotter to visit. Together with Levy, they decide what places would be the most fun and meaningful, and go from there. The team often visits each place multiple times to find out who Levy will be interacting with, what he’s going to do and how he’s going to dive into a new culture.

Eugene Levy admitted he’s looking at the future of his acting career and believes retirement may not be too far away.
The 77-year-old actor-comedian, who had a career resurgence in the past decade thanks to the comedy series Schitt’s Creek, recently opened up to The Independent about potentially stepping back from acting sooner rather than later.
“I’m not afraid of retirement,” Levy confessed. “I love it when I have nothing on the agenda, I really do. I love getting up and the only big decision is where to go for lunch. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
The Reluctant Traveler host explained that he’s not seeking out any long-term projects, but rather ones that better align with his current schedule and require fewer time commitments.

Hollywood, California – March 08: Eugene Levy is honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame timed to the global premiere of Apple TV+’s “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy” on March 08, 2024 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Eric Charbonneau/Getty Images for Apple TV+) Considering it took him until he was 30 years old to get his first TV role, as a regular player on the sketch show Sctv, Eugene Levy seemed like he would be an unlikely candidate for a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Yet, sure enough, at the age of 77, he’s achieved that honor after achieving both fame and acclaim in the American Pie movies, Christopher Guest’s series of mockumentary films, and, of course, the Emmy Award-winning comedy Schitt’s Creek Currently starring in his own reality series, The Reluctant Traveler, Levy talked about what it means for him to be honored with his Walk of Fame star.

The premise of The Reluctant Traveler is a simple one. There’s a traveler and he’s reluctant, you see. But’s he’s also much more than that.
That’s because the titular reluctant traveler in this Apple TV+ docuseries is none other than comedy legend Eugene Levy. Levy’s prolific career has spanned decades – from his time on the Canadian sketch series Sctv to his many roles in Christopher Guest’s collection of mockumentaries to his most recent Emmy award-winning portrayal of Johnny Rose in Schitt’s Creek, the sitcom created by his son Dan Levy. Through all of these onscreen adventures, however, Levy never quite caught the travel bug. The Reluctant Traveler season 1 sought to rectify that by forcing him into locales like Costa Rica, Italy, Japan, and more.

Apple TV+ is quickly becoming a destination for many quality television shows, and the offerings on the platform next month are on par with its previous hits. Promptly emerging as a ubiquitous household name, the streaming service is certainly continuing on such a trajectory. Given the myriad of shows set for release in March, those who have yet to subscribe to the service will most definitely want to reassess their choices. Without a doubt, there are a slew of upcoming shows worth watching.
For those who are fans of British comedies as well as Noel Fielding, Apple TV+ has you covered with a new series. However, if viewers prefer a more American comedic style, there is also a show for them. Lovers of historical dramas will undoubtedly want to check out a series starring Anthony Boyle following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, while those looking for more child-friendly viewing won't be forgotten either.
