Set to release on December 18th, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, starring Ranveer Singh, tells the story of Bajirao, one of history’s greatest unsung heroes; a Maratha Peshwa who rewrote the true essence of love and fearlessly protected his kingdom for over 47 long wars. It is an epic tale and the love story of a warrior that also stars Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Not only has Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Bajirao Mastani, he has also composed the music for the historical saga that is being called his magnum opus. I loved Slb’s music for Guzaarish and looked forward to hearing what he would create for this epic film. After talking with lyricists Prashant Ingole and Siddharth and Garima I was even more excited to get lost into the musical story of Bajirao Mastani. So does the soundtrack transport you to the time, the place and the feeling of Bajirao’s world?...

The recently released Ganesh Acharya movie Hey Bro has definitely been appreciated for its music by the audience. The songs ‘Mera Gaana Baja De DJ’, ‘Birju’ and ‘Bulbul’ are climbing their way up the charts as we speak. The song video for ‘Birju’ features many Bollywood greats such as Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Ranveer Singh. BollySpice brings you an exclusive interview with the Music Directors of Hey Bro ‘Nitz n Sony’ aka Nitin Arora and Sony Chandy. Read on to find out how they conceived the music of the film and learn about their ‘fairly’ unusual background before they became Music Directors in the Bollywood industry!

Both: Both of us are self taught (and still learning!) musicians with no formal training or family background in music.

A somewhat reasoned rant on the Indian Independent Film Movement and the business of Indian Indie film.
Ritesh Batra
There is something in the air in Bombay, everyone’s talking about it. Sometimes it feels very real, and at other times it feels more like Yeti- the mystical creature somewhere in the foothills of the Himalayas, many of have seen his footprints in the snow, no one seems to have met the guy or lived to tell the tale. It was pre-maturely named the Hindi new wave by festival directors in the West. It was expected to arrive sometime in 2009, just after Slumdog Millionaire, the Slumdog effect, but it did not quite materialize then. The following years, 2010 and 2011 were good years for Indian Indies with some travelling to major film festivals and even pulling in good numbers in the local box office. Yes, something’s definitely in the air, the...

A controversial project to bulldoze Dharavi, the giant shanty town that formed the backdrop to Slumdog Millionaire, is reviving the fortunes of extremist parties
Ninety Feet Road runs through the middle of Dharavi, the area in the centre of Mumbai notorious for being southern Asia's largest slum. The street's name comes from its width – it is the broadest thoroughfare among the congested mass of homes, tenements, workshops and alleyways made famous by the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
It has seen many battles, but few as acrimonious as this most recent fight: to claim the credit, money, power and votes that will come from levelling much of the neighbourhood in a multibillion-pound slum clearance programme.
The battle is heating up with the approach of civic elections in India's commercial capital in under a year. At stake is not just the future of Dharavi, but also lucrative building contracts and the survival...
