If You Can't Say Anything Nice...
Droid_Gunner20 March 2015
...you shouldn't write a review of 'Re-Generator.' I hate coming onto IMDb and not having much to say about a movie other than "it's awful," but this movie is just that ~ awful. There isn't much else one can say.

I don't want to spend the entire review repeating myself or coming up with as many variations of the word "terrible" I can, so I'll just go over the main points:

1. This is not a movie... It is several movies thrown in a blender and tossed on DVD with little care. I can't help but notice the two directors credited. One is Olivier Gruner, the writer, producer and star. And then there's some other guy. It really looks like the movie was abandoned at one point by the original director (Gruner?) and then the other guy came along and tried to salvage what he could of the original material, adding in scenes with Paul Logan, unending stock footage, etc. After seeing Gruner's second directorial effort ('Sector 4 Extraction'... do yourself a favor and skip it), I can't say anything positive about his directorial skills. (What's up with making all the actors speak directly into the camera??) My guess is the movie had so many issues with him in the director's chair, that someone else had to step in and re-shoot half the movie to "salvage" it.

2. Nothing happens in the movie. There is nothing at stake for any of the characters at any point. Everyone is just moping around, babbling, waiting to be picked off by The Beast, Gruner's silent killer (who, for the record, performs ZERO action in the movie!). Nothing is interesting in the 90-minute run-time! Characters are introduced, then never heard from again. Plot points are brought up, then ignored. Nothing adds up. It truly feels like half the movie was simply shot as 'damage control' to fix what was an abandoned home video.

3. (The one positive I have to say.) The music. The music was cheesy, over-the-top, sounding like it came straight out of a Sega Dreamcast action game... But it works. I can safely say that the music was the single highlight of the film. (Honorable mention for Paul Logan who's awesome in just about everything.) Sorry to blast the movie like this, because kudos should be given to any filmmaker who completes a project, but man, this was one of the most poorly-made movies I have ever seen.

Amateur movie

For everything there is a first time. This is my first time giving a 1-star-rating.

You get: - A "strange killer kills off wasted teens in the woods" story without gore. - An Olivier Gruner movie without any martial arts scenes. - A movie that looks as if the budget was somewhere around a trip to Disneyland (and if they had gone to Disneyland instead of making this movie at least someone would have had fun with the budget). - A sound that sounds like the whole movie was dubbed by actors even worse than the ones you see.

The camera work is simply abysmal and the director must've been very intoxicated. The angles from which a lot of scenes are shot are absolutely ridiculous at times.

I could go on and on but I'll just say one more thing: Even if you are a HUGE Olivier Gruner fan... it's not worth your time, he really doesn't do much in it.

It was the beast

Warning: Spoilers
Mr. Karr (Brad Potts) tells the story of the re-generator to a reporter at a restaurant. The scene highlights the problems low budget productions have in filming indoors, mainly sound, awkward close-ups, and bad writing. The Re-generator (Olivier Gruner) is a military killing machine that can re-generate itself in twenty seconds. When a plane carry him crashes in Juniper Point, Colorado he becomes a killing machine on the local teen campers.

This film is part sci-fi, part slasher with neither one being good. The killings are not graphic. The plot was boring and the characters dull due to terrible trite dialogue and sad acting.

Not worth viewing.

Parental guide: F-bombs, clothed sex, drug use. No nudity.

Warning: Spoilers
I simply could not finish this "movie". This is my first official review, because I care about people and their time. I don't know how to sum up a worthless "item" in ten lines or less, without providing, at least some, spoilers, so I'll give it my best shot. My first issue is the horrible acting, especially when you see a grown man cursing, and perhaps mistake him for a 10 year old cursing for the first time in front of his friends. I'm not a fan of cursing, but for crying out loud, if you're gonna curse, do it right! The summary is what grasped my attention at the video store, and I thank God that I only gave up 50 cents of my hard earned labor (for 5 nights) for this travesty. If there were other options for star ratings, I'd give it a 0.00000000000000001 simply because it looked better than a VHS, as it is on DVD. So, to summarize, don't waste your time.

This was definitely a bad movie...

Right, well I stumbled upon the 2010 movie "Re-Generator" in 2021. Had I heard about it prior to getting to sit down and watch it? Nope, not at all. But hey, the movie had Olivier Gruner on the cast list, and I remember him fondly from the 1992 movie "Nemesis", so I figured I would give "Re-Generator" a chance.

And wow, this movie was bad. Truly awfully bad through and through. This movie felt like something that was found by random in a discarded box from the mid-1980s. This action sci-fi movie didn't at all feel like it was made in 2010.

The storyline told in "Re-Generator", as written by Olivier Gruner, Martin Mayo and Stephen Meier was just bad, hands down. I am rather impressed that three writers could collectively managed to come up with something as abysmal as "Re-Generator".

The acting in the movie was every bit as wooden and rigid as the storyline, so not even on that account did "Re-Generator" managed to harvest points.

Do yourself a favor and skip out on "Re-Generator", should you happen to stumble upon this atrocity of a movie. It was really one of the worst movies I have had to sit through.

My rating of directors Olivier Gruner and Patrick Shanavian's 2010 movie "Re-Generator" lands on a generous one out of ten stars. And trust me, the movie cannot regenerate from this rating.

Nothing should be this bad

A group of teenagers sit around a camp fire getting high. The dialog is exactly what you'd expect from a group of teenagers sitting around a camp fire getting high. Whoever thought this was entertaining enough to film was higher than the teenagers.

ZERO stars. There is not one aspect of filmmaking executed to even a poor amateur standard. High school film students would be embarrassed to turn this in for a school project. ZERO stars.

What the actual....? This is really bad.

I love B-Movies. I find them fun and often hilarious. Sharknado? I'm here for it. Solar Eclipse and other B-movie disaster movies? I've seen most of them. But this? This is epically bad.

I think the producers got their friends to both write the script and play the parts. The fun "out of control" weapon actor never says a word and is still comes off as a better actor than any of the rest of the people in this.

The first third of the movie we watch a handful of teenagers get drunk and high on the side of the mountain are are subjected to their "conversations". At least they got this part right. They were dumb. I'm pretty sure that was all ad-libbed. I'm not positive that the rest of the movie wasn't ad-libbed too. Can someone please tell me why the waitress had a part at all?

Good luck all who enter here.
