- Believing himself to be jinxed, a man attempts to find true love, but instead gets caught in a web of lies.
- A romantic comedy that narrates the story of Aarush, the world's unluckiest man. Being jinxed, he believes his bad luck can vanish if he finds true love. In this quest for true love, how one lie leads to another and how different people from different walks of life come together, adding even more confusion to this hilarious comedy of errors resulting in total chaos and mayhem forms the crux of the story. The line which Deepika tells Akshay in the film "Jis jhooth se kissi ka ghar basta ho, voh jhooth jhooth nahin hota", pretty much sums up the essence of the film.—Danisrocky

- Tagged with being a jinx and bringing bad luck on himself and everyone he comes in contact with, London-based Aarush, employed in the Venetian Casino, Macau, to prevent its clientèle's winning sprees, gets dumped by his girlfriend Pooja, and returns home to his pal Baburao and his wife Hetal. After a disastrous start, the couple decide to get him hitched to a homely girl, Devika, the daughter of casino owner Kishore Samtani. The marriage takes place, and shortly thereafter Devika shows her true colors by ditching Aarush for a Caucasian male, Benny. Heartbroken, he then meets Sandy they fall in love with each other. Murphy's Law hilariously prevails with the entry of Hetal's estranged Gujarat-based dad, Batuk Patel, and Sandy's suspicious brother, Major Krishna Rao.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
- The story follows Aarush (Akshay Kumar), a 'Panauti' (an unlucky person), who works in a Macao casino and gets money as people lose games of poker (He is paid by the casino to spread his bad luck to every winning table). After being rejected from getting married by Pooja (Malaika Arora Khan), a girl who he dearly loves, he then gets punched by her elder brother Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) telling him to keep away from her. Krishna didn't see Aarush's face as it was covered with cement (another story), while he punched him. Aarush goes to London to stay for some time with his best friend, Bob (Riteish Deshmukh) and his wife, Hetal (Lara Dutta), both working at a casino owned by Kishore Samtani (Randhir Kapoor).
Although at first Hetal is displeased with Aarush's presence (he walks in on Bob and Hetal about to have sex and is ever angrier when Aarush announces that he will stay for a few weeks. and the next morning destroys the living room while vacuuming and kills her pet parrot in the process), he proves to be a kind man looking for a family. Hetal has told her father Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), who lives in India, that Bob owns 3 factories in London and is a rich man. Hetal had married Bob without Batuk's permission and hence Batuk has never forgiven her. Bob and Hetal decide to get him married to their boss' daughter, Devika Samtani (Jiah Khan). Devika is a girl with very traditional Indian values and Aarush likes her. After the marriage, on their honeymoon in Italy, Devika turns into an ultra-modern bikini clad girl and leaves him for her longtime American boyfriend Benny. She only married Aarush as her dad would have given her the 500 MM pounds of inheritance money only if she married an Indian guy. Aarush decides to commit suicide by drowning in the sea but is saved by a Telugu girl, Sandy (Deepika Padukone), who he kisses when she tries to make him breathe by giving him mouth to mouth.
Sandy originally thinks Aarush is a pervert but when Aakhri Pasta (Chunkey Pandey), the owner of Italy's "biggest" hotel (& runs a match-making agency in the UK) where Aarush was spending his honeymoon with Devika, tells Sandy that Aarush is a widower as a joke and his wife died the day of their honeymoon, she befriends him and slowly falls in love with him. What she doesn't know is that Aakhri Pasta was only joking. Aarush calls Bob and Hetal to Italy telling him about the entire situation. Sandy then tells them that they helped Aarush after the death of his "wife" both misinterpret the situation that Aarush lied to Sandy about the dead wife. He later then meets Devika in front of Sandy and asks for divorce papers. Sandy then finds out his wife is alive and leaves him. Sandy does not allow Aarush to enter her room, so he climbs from her balcony. Pasta thinks Aarush is committing suicide and live telecast is conducted. Sandy then switches on her TV and goes to her balcony but later when Aarush manages to clear the confusion, she accepts him.
The only way Aarush and Sandy can get married is by convincing her elder brother, Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal), a strict Indian Military Intelligence officer who loves his sister and is over-protective of her. Meanwhile, Hetal lies to her father, Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), that Bob owns a mansion, and they have a child, so she can meet him after so many years. On the other hand, Sandy tells her brother that Aarush is quite well to do too. Hetal makes a plan to rent a mansion and use it to convince Krishna as he is coming from 14-16, and then use the same mansion to convince Batuk, who is coming on the 17th. Sulekha (Lillete Dubey) is the owner of the rented mansion. Hetal and Aarush pretend to be married as she will only give mansion to married couples. But Batuk arrives few days ahead of plan and meets Aarush and Hetal in front of Sulekha and Hetal has to admit that Aarush is her husband.
Batuk believes Bob is the cook & Sandy is the maid. They are forced to bring an African child and pretend that it is the baby, as that was the only baby available at short notice. Aarush says his grandma was African. Then, Krishna turns up earlier than expected much to Aarush's horror that Krishna was the one who punched him earlier leading to more lies and the two couples making him believe that Aarush owns the mansion. Hetal convinces Batuk that Sandy wants to study, but her brother wants to get her married. So, Sandy told her brother that she is marrying into a rich family. Hetal says that Aarush will pose as Sandy's fiance, and Batuk + Sulekha as his parents. Hetal is his sister and Bob her husband.
An overly suspicious Krishna goes to the casino as his bag was exchanged with Kishore Samtani. Krishna then sees Bob and Hetal working at the casino and as soon as they spot Krishna, they hide from him. Krishna then uses a lie detector on Aarush to find the truth. After Sandy objects, Krishna apologizes and agrees to Aarush and Sandy's marriage. The whole family is invited to the Royal Palace to see Krishna get rewarded by the Queen of the United Kingdom. While this is happening, two workers, Santa (Suresh Menon) and Banta Singh (Manoj Pahwa), are meant to be installing air conditioning gas for the place. However instead they accidentally supply the hall with laughing gas causing everyone to break into an outburst of laughter. During this laughter, the truth is let out, but no one seems to be in the right state of mind.
The two workers meanwhile stop the gas from spreading - everyone comes back to their senses. Aarush goes on stage to reveal the truth to Krishna about his ill-fate and believes his engagement with Sandy is now broken. Krishna though believes Aarush is no longer a jinxed loser and instead orders him and Sandy to get married. In the end, Hetal and Bob live together with Batuk Patel, and Aarush's luck changes for the better.
