In this special there are two noticeable differences from the previous two. The first is that the presenters are not provided with an unappealing backup vehicle if one of theirs fails (in the Botswana special it was the VW Beetle and in the Vietnam one it was the Honda Chaly mini-bike painted in the colours of the Stars and Stripes). The second is that in the credits, the names appear as normal instead of being preceded by a reference to someone or something that happened in that country ("Archbishop Desmond" in the Botswana special and "Francis Ford" in the Vietnam one).

The scene where Jeremy has to pass on outside on Death Road was in fact a crew car, the scene was created for extra tension and though the danger was very real, it was set up for the episode, the car was a Toyota land cruiser and you can see the camera fixing holes, the fully tinted windows and the "crew" sign on the car when watching the directors cut.
