Her father Inesh understands her need of assimilating the American culture and not be outcast at the high school. She rejects her former best friend Tamira and flirts with the handsome American teenager Russ. When the outcast Tamira has a strange behavior, carrying a jar everywhere, the teacher Joyce asks Sam if Tamira is fine, and Sam answers that she believes she is. On the next day, Tamira asks Sam to help her saying that there is an entity inside the jar. The arrogant Sam breaks the jar, and Tamira has a panic attack and goes missing.
