I hope they have a plan
S_ilence_6614 August 2022
Its not unwatchable, nothing like that. However it does not add much value to TWD universe. If you see it as a standalone thing, and not a piece of the puzzle, it doesnt stand.

After all the attempts, I have a feeling that the next really good content would have to fast forward untill new fully developed (and yet promitive) societies have emerged, a completely new setting with new opportunities for plots, drama and action. As long as its characters vs other characters in the setting dominated by walkers, I am afraid we have seen it all already.

Do not expect The Walking Dead...
themaxnado16 August 2022
Ok, so final verdict. Tales of the Walking Dead is a bit campy and doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes the lackluster acting almost tolerable. The story itself turned out to be not too bad, albeit somewhat corny. Next week, it looks like it has the same undertones. Almost silly. If they do it well, it'll be something to watch, as long as you don't expect any real suspense like we've come to expect with its predecessors.

Conclusion? If you go into this with zero expectations and you do NOT compare it to TWD, it's a watchable show. I don't see it winning any awards, but I almost enjoyed how bad it was. This really is one you have to judge for yourself. Some people will love it, some will hate it, some will be right in between. But don't listen to other reviewers, try it yourself and form your own opinion.

Interesting and different.
EazyB2315 August 2022
Checked it out because of Terry Crews, 1st episode was decent and funny, the 2nd episode was average, and reminded me of the Russian doll tv show.

I would give Episode 1 a 7 star, i liked the preppers premise.

Episode 2 - i could care less for, didnt find it interesting or funny, which is what they were going for. Hopefully it gets better. 4-5 stars max. Some scenes didnt make sense.

Episode 3 - looking forward to Alpha and Lydia.

Enjoyable and a bit different
xaocam-7748015 August 2022
After the first two episodes, I have found them quite enjoyable to watch. Doesn't seem to have quite the same budget as the original, but that's fine. The acting was decent and the plots were engaging, even if the second one did seem to leave the reality of the premise of the originals, but then again, how realistic are zombies.

Just when i thought TWD franchise couldnt get any worse...
hfygznf27 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
...they never cease to disappoint me again.

The whole concept of TWD is simple: the world as we know it has ended, the dead walk among us, and the living are in constant survival mode and in never ending struggle to find shelter, food, and supplies. Example: the movie "The Road".

Why the writers and directors seem to always ignore / forget that when they make these episodes is beyond me.

They characters never show any typical characteristics of human beings who have PTSD, lack nutrition, suffer from insomnia etc. Anybody who has survived the zombie apocalypse this long has either lost their minds and look like homeless people (no offense) we see in real life or is holed up in some bunker having conversations with themselves or they have a soccer ball named Wilson like Tom Hanks in Cast Away.

In TWD its the opposite: they all look healthy and "hollywood"attractive as if they just came from a beauty salon and fitness center and act as they're in lala land and have no basic instinct (first episode: motor cycle guy rides over nails and spikes, gets off his bike and walks into another trap... like "are you for real?!"

TWD series has become unoriginal, uneventful, unchallenging, and just down right unacceptable.

5 bad episodes, 1 ok. End the franchise already.
mhorg201819 September 2022
First we have the walking Dead, which lost the guts to kill off any major characters and let them walk. I've stuck with it's though it's been falling since season 9 and the Michonne episode was one of the dumbest.

Then we have the up and down Fear which started out with one of the most unlikable casts ever and in the last few seasons have a ridiculous serial killer chase, showed zero knowledge of radiation and fallout, as well as reprogramming nuclear missiles.

Then the unwatchable world beyond and now this atrocity. This absolutely horrible show which out of 6 episodes, had one worth watching. A ghost story? Really? This franchise is dead, to let it go.

Fun and Experimental
farshadvaraste14 August 2022
They did something new, and it's kinda cool.

It's way better that the filler episodes of the main show.

The action scenes are edited poorly, so it's only the story and the cinematography to enjoy.

But overall, it's a good experiment, fun to watch.

TWD in Monster of the Week Format!
rojas-fernando8419 August 2022
If you're looking for continuity, its not in the first 2 episodes. These are very creative ways of entertaining the idea of life in The Walking Dead universe. Also seems to be the way to allow other well known actors (Terry Crews, Olivia Munn, Parker Posey) to participate without distracting from the main story lines.

Originality is not the name of the game here as this is not ground breaking television, but these are fun short stories embedded in TWD lore with a sort of twist.

Walking Dud
kpassa2 September 2022
Watched 2 episodes that went from bad to worse. After so many years of TWD and its spinoffs it's not about the Zombies, it's about the characters and the characters so far have been stupid, boring and (of course, it's almost impossible to escape nowadays) woke. The first episode with the acrobatic martial artist supergirl was bad but the second episode with its Ground Hog Day dullness was so bad I can't bring myself to bother with a third. I wasted enough time on World Beyond so this one is a pass. There are too many new shows to check out that might actually be entertaining. I may get episode three someday but only if I'm having trouble sleeping.

It has potential
mzoen15 August 2022
I usually don't write reviews but after seeing the other reviews here I find this is getting tp much hate.. I Stopped watching TWD years ago but this concept seemed interesting to me, not following the same group of people all the time with stretched out drama like TWD.

So far only seen the first 2 episodes and like my title says it has potential and will watch at least the first season.

The third episode saved it.
geurtsdustin21 August 2022
You can see a good amount of reviewers posted after 2 episodes and were disappointed that the shorts had zero relation to the original TWD. I am a anthology junkie and have loved zombies since my grandmother allowed me to watch George A Romero's original when I was 8. Here, I felt the zombie world would be a great setting that would provide endless opportunity to create original anthology content. And sporadic stories directly related to TWD was a great idea to keep us connected. The later worked out. They did really well showing how Alpha became Alpha. As with a lot of anthologies, individual episodes often have different producers and directors. The production quality of episode 3 made me more so feel like I was watching TWD. In regards to the original content, they need to step it up. If Tales From the Crypt could put out quality engaging content for the better part of 7 years, these writers should be able to put out something more gripping for 2 episodes. No disrespect to Terry Crewes. He his great in certain comedy and action hero settings. But his role as a drama lead was not convincing. Imho, the acting was quite lacking. The second episode was a little better. At first I was disappointed in how they strayed from TWD's real world setting to a sci-fi capable world. But than I remembered it is an anthology series and anything can happen...... in The Twilight zone. Do do do do, do do do do.

Based on the 1st episode...
kysta14 August 2022
As much as i love Mr Crewes and the actors did their best with what was presented - it was disappointing and dull. Will watch episode 2 and see what comes. I never tire of the Zombie genre and am open to slow burns or fiendish gore....there is just something missing to this storytelling formula :(

Hit and miss - although a welcome change of pace.
simianfriday11 September 2022
This series is *very* hit and miss. Some episodes are genuinely quite good (episodes 3 and 5 specifically) while others are campy, silly, or just come off as some kind of fan fiction. It's nice to see The Walking Dead universe get a little bit creative and experimental - the most recent couple of seasons of the main show have had a handful of brilliantly experimental episodes even if, overall, the show hasn't been great - but here, every episode plays with the "rules" of the Walking Dead universe in ways the other shows wouldn't dare. This can be fun to see sometimes (episode 5's pseudo-noir mystery is an example that works, while episode 2's Groundhog Day time-bending does not) , but it can also come off as schlocky horror camp akin to something like Tales from the Crypt but without the tongue in cheek comedy vibe.

All in all, I'd say this is worth a watch if you're a fan of The Walking Dead - but don't get your hopes up thinking this will be anything great.

One word: horrible
sibyllelashley24 August 2022
I really have no clue why anyone would enjoy this trash. After watching all the tiger walking dead shows this one is just plain stupid and a trash. They choose horrible actors and the stories are all over the place and make no sense at all. After 2 episodes I need to call it quits.

Made in Stone Mountain Park
joshuaajones12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the entire series. Each was a different, outlier story that added a little to the WD universe. It was also nice to see a few new faces enter the franchise, even if just for a single episode.

As for the individual stories, my favorites were the first 4, underground bunkers, Groundhog Day, Alpha, and National Geographic. The last 2, the Maniacs and the Witch, were a little too outside the WD realm to matter too much to the complete picture.

Most of all, I liked seeing and recognizing ateas of Stone Mountain Park (covered bridge, lake, old water wheel). I went there a lot as a teenager but now live out-of-state, so that was fun.

How does AMC stay in Business
american-7833115 August 2022
Are they trying to make the crappiest television possible. I know Scott Gimple knows how to make a good television show so why anyone would release this garbage is beyond me. Even children would mock this. Compare this to the first episode of WTD and it's just, there are no words to describe how far off this is. I don't even get what demo this is geared toward. AMC must really be hurting for money or something and they just cant devote serious resources into making a compelling series.

What the Hell were they thinking with this?

This was not good by any stretch if the imagination.

The writing is Corny, Convoluted, Nonsensical "AND" Has nothing to do with TWD series.

Z Nation was bad n cheesy but mostly watchable. It was a masterpiece compared to this drivel. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Different. But Good. Better than 'The World Beyond'.
rochfordsimon24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Three episodes in. 1st episode is a Rom/Com that should have been later in season. Episode 3 is very true to TWD original series.

It's TWD light and aimed at a multitude of genres. To be fair, this is the third spinoff so it had to be different. I like it, once I don't hold it to the standards of TWD original. It is far superior to the insult it predecessor (The world beyond) was. I'll watch rest if the 1st season.

Starts off ok, then goes down hill faster than a fast thing on ice wearing roller skates and covered in butter.

Warning: Spoilers
The first episode is your typical road trip in the apocalypse fair we have all seen a million times before. Its not bad, its not great. But its OK. Terry Crewes and Olivia Munn played off each other well enough and the twist at the end is not that twisty. Again, if you've seen the road trip movie before you know how this ends.

The second episode is a Groundhog Day type deal with two women who hate each other reliving the same day. Its....actually kinda fun. Its not fantastic, but its fun and silly and thats all its trying to be.

The third episode I couldn't care less about, and neither should you, but it will be the only episode that has a character from the OG show. It gives us yet another glimpse into the past of Alpha and now we know nothing new about her.

Episode four is what would it be like if David Attenborough was really into observing zombies and a dick.

Episode five had an interesting premise, but the execution was all kinds of nope. A-train leads the line this time. Playing against type as a character who cant run very fast. Theres a memory issue with this one, and the way they convey that is by using spoiled negative imagery. Its annoying. In the end, the episode has a message that it delivers with all the subtlety Negan did in making his point of who was in charge when he first met Rick and co.

Episode six was straight up trash. A dumb haunted house tale thats not worth your time or mine in saying anything about it other than its trash. Seriously, its trash. Utter, utter, utter trash.

HIT AND MISS
hancoxt23 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched 4 episodes so far.

Episode 2 was a waste of electricity.

Episode 1,3 and 4 are decent concepts. Problem they have is the attraction of TWD. Is you grow to love the characters or hate them. But you engage with them. In one hour one offs. Impossible in one hour shows. But that apart they are ok. Never would buy the boxset though.

Episode 3 handles Dee (Alpha) and Lydia because of their story in TWD it was by far the most interesting. However in TWD they met Beta in a building and formed the Whisperers. In this no sign of Beta and met Whisperers differently.

In closing and just my opinion unless you need a Zombie fix look at other options. Thanks for reading.

WASTE OF TIME
big_kahuna22-314-73707818 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was really excited to hear they were going to do this type of show and I am so disappointed.

The episode where time keeps repeating was the first time I ever fast forwarded and episode of the walking dead.

Thank fully I have AMC+ and see all the episodes commercial free and can do that.

Not one of the 6 episodes were really interesting to me and to think they were thinking of doing a musical episode, what the hell are they thinking?

I know this was just a stopgap in the series to keep fans hooked till the real thing came back but WOW!!!

Give those writers a vacation and hope they never come back.

Worth a Try
maruma-1117527 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the whole thing. The first episode defies TWD logic. The main character leaves a secure bunker to go find a girl he had met online before the outbreak. He risks life and limb to find someone he doesn't know from Adam and what does she do when they meet? She slips him a pot brownie. Seriously?!

The second episode was just plain stupid. A time loop? Really?

The third episode is supposed to be about Alpha's origin but the story is not consistent with the back story presented on the original series. In the original flashbacks, she and Lydia were alone when they met the man who became Beta and they started the Whisperers together but here she and Lydia meet the already established Whisperers and she becomes Alpha after killing their leader.

The fourth episode has a scientist tracking and studying the walkers like if they were animals.

In the fifth episode we finally see survivors in a different country. It appears to take place in Canada as they speak English and French.

The last episode incorporates a little bit of the supernatural when our two survivors start to see ghosts. That was different.

Overall, it wasn't great but it's something to watch.
