The Strongest Villains in The Flash, Ranked
Image
The Flash faced formidable villains with metahuman powers, requiring more than just speed to defeat them. Godspeed, King Shark, and Gorilla Grodd presented unique challenges for Barry Allen with their diverse abilities. The Speed Force, the source of Flash's powers, proved to be the most powerful entity in the Arrowverse.

The Flash had many strong villains with metahuman powers in its nine-season run. Most of Flash's villains are superpowered, as his speedster abilities are no match for regular humans. Whether it be Reverse Flash or Bloodwork, villains who pose a great threat often prove a tough challenge for Barry Allen to overcome.

The Flash produced a high number of quality villains, as one of the strongest Arrowverse shows with a range of top-notch villains who were heavily entertaining. Flash had to use more than just his speedster powers to take down most of the show's big bads. As a result,...

10 Disappointing Flash Villains Arrowverse Fans Wish They Could Forget
Image
The Flash had a number of disappointing villains that fans wished were handled better. The series perfected the art of the season-long big bad during their first few seasons with Reverse Flash and Zoom. However, things changed as Season 4 came around, which was a rough season that introduced a lot of lackluster villains.

The Flash had many main villains throughout its nine-season run, but also had countless villains of the week. These villains would show up to fill the gaps in the season, as not every episode could feature the main villain. It's a common trope in superhero television that was widespread across the Arrowverse. Some villains of the week worked, but generally, they were less popular as they had fewer appearances.

Bloodwork's Villain Arc Ended on a Disappointing Note

Bloodwork made his debut in The Flash Season 6, Episode 1, "Into the Void."

What Tricia Helfer Did After Battlestar Galactica
Image
After playing Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, Tricia Helfer took on quite a few more acting roles. One of her most notable post-Battlestar roles was playing Charlotte in Lucifer. Helfer will also be appearing in upcoming projects including Hello Beautiful.

Tricia Helfer continued her acting career long after the end of her iconic role in Battlestar Galactica. Before joining the 2005 reboot of the legendary 1978 science fiction series, she began her career as a fashion model in the early 1990s, winning the Ford Models' Supermodel of the World contest in 1992. She retired from the industry in 2002, moving on to a career in acting with early roles that included episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Jeremiah, as well as the Judd Nelson crime thriller White Rush.

Helfer was part of the Battlestar Galactica cast in the 2005 series and continued playing one of the show's main characters for all four seasons through its finale.

“We had to rewrite it three different times”: Grant Gustin Fans Will Riot – Multiple Emotionally Charged The Flash Deleted Scenes Made the Finale Way Better
Image
The CW has spawned a number of DC shows in the past few decades, and The Flash stands among the best of them. Running for nine seasons, the TV show chronicled the journey of the Scarlet Speedster, while also having crossovers and making cameos in other DC shows. However, there were times when The Flash was incredibly close to finishing its run, before it was stretched to 9 seasons.

A still from The Flash

The Flash was originally supposed to end after Season 8, but thanks to fan support and CW execs, the series was given another chance to conclude its story properly.

The Flash Season 8 finale was rewritten multiple times Grant Gustin as The Flash

The Flash’s 9 season run on CW wasn’t easy at all – the production has had several scares of being canceled at various points in time. However, showrunner Eric Wallace had a definitive conclusion in mind,...

10 Most Brutal Deaths In All 9 Seasons Of The Flash
Image
Character deaths in The Flash can be both shocking and brutal, with major heroes, villains, and civilians meeting violent ends throughout the nine seasons. The show's choice of villains, such as Reverse-Flash, Bloodwork, and Zoom, contribute to the high level of brutality in some deaths. Some notable deaths include Gypsy being vaporized by Earth-19's Cisco, Reverse-Flash decaying the original Harrison Wells, and Nora West-Allen's heartbreaking erasure from existence while hugging her parents.

The Flash saw many heroes, villains, and civilians face brutal deaths over its nine seasons. DC's Arrowverse concluded earlier this year when The Flash met its end. After nine seasons, Grant Gustin's Barry Allen went out for his final run as the Scarlet Speedster, and like all The Flash seasons, season 9 of the Arrowverse series saw multiple shocking and brutal deaths. The Arrowverse is no stranger to killing characters, with major players such as Green...

‘Gen V’ New Superheroes And Their Powers, Explained
Image
There is a preconceived notion that comics writer Garth Ennis dislikes superhero culture with a passion, which is at times quite evident from all the brutally sarcastic jabs he delivered to the genre through some of his seminal works like Hitman. But his most scathing commentary took the form of a bitter deconstruction of the established superhero status quo, The Boys, which has been famously adapted into a TV series by Amazon Prime. Far removed from the idealistic world where superheroes exist to serve justice with honor, the superheroes in The Boys abuse power to their hearts’ fill—an aspect that has clicked with the audience so much that the series has spawned three seasons already, as has the spin-off series Gen V, which has been released recently.

An adaptation of The Boys volume four, We gotta go Now, the series Gen V revolves around a young generation of superpowered...

Why Wally West Left The Flash After Season 4
Image
Wally West, played by Keiynan Lonsdale, was a beloved character on The Flash but left the show after just two seasons, leaving fans questioning why. Lonsdale's departure from The Flash was a narrative decision, with his character choosing to do soul-searching and eventually joining the Legends of Tomorrow. Lonsdale left the Arrowverse to pursue new opportunities in his career but returned as a special guest star in various seasons, leaving a lasting legacy on The Flash.

The Flash's Wally West was among the most beloved characters introduced to the DC show, but his tenure was fleeting, leaving the DC show after the Flash season 4 with just two seasons total under his belt. Wally West was first introduced in Season 3 as a result of the Flashpoint, an event that saw the show's star, Barry Allen, create an alternate timeline where Kid Flash watched over Central City. After losing his super-speed post-Flashpoint,...

What Stephen Amell Has Done Since Arrow Ended
Image
Oliver Queen actor Stephen Amell has kept busy since he left The CW's Arrow. The CW's Arrowverse comes to an end in 2023 with The Flash season 9 after more than a decade's worth of superhero content on the small screen. Although Grant Gustin's Barry Allen became the face of the Arrowverse thanks to the popularity of The Flash, it was Stephen Amell who started it all, giving the franchise its name once Arrow proved that a vast and interconnected DC universe was possible on TV.

Throughout Arrow's eight seasons and multiple appearances across Batwoman, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Vixen, and Supergirl, Stephen Amell not only cemented Oliver Queen as an iconic live-action Green Arrow but also portrayed his evil counterpart Dark Arrow, a body-swapped version of The Flash, and a future version of Oliver Queen. Arrow ends Oliver Queen's journey with his death and subsequent transformation into The Spectre,...

Wally West Didn't Need to Become 'The Flash' on The CW Series
Image
The following contains spoilers for Season 9 of The Flash.

The sun set on the Arrowverse with The Flash's series finale, which brought many of its characters' stories to a close. However, with Barry's creation of three new speedsters, it's only the end of the adventures audiences get to see. Some fans are disappointed that Wally West didn't shed the "Kid" from his moniker to become the Flash. While such a development would be a nod to the comics, it wasn't what Wally's story needed.

The return of Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West for an episode in Season 9 wasn't just a victory lap for the character and actor. Rather, the show examined Wally's latent anger at Barry and the West family. Still, many fans grew up in the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era of comics where Wally West was the Flash and Barry Allen was gone. Also, in fairness to Wally's fans,...

10 The Flash Moments We'll Be Denied If Grant Gustin Never Plays The Speedster Again
Image
Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 13

Several long-awaited moments will never happen if The Flash series finale was really the last time Grant Gustin plays Barry Allen. After nine seasons, the last remaining show in the Arrowverse came to an end. Though the finale did indeed mark the end of an era, it didn’t necessarily close the door on Barry Allen’s story.

The Flash season 9, episode 13, titled “A New World, Part Four,” made it abundantly clear that while the series is over for good, Barry’s superhero journey is far from complete. In-universe, he’s still active as the Flash and will continue to hold the mantle until at least 2049. But though plenty of storytelling potential remains with his character, there’s no guarantee Grant Gustin will suit up as the Scarlet Speedster once more. Gustin has expressed a willingness to reprise the role, but opportunities for that are sparse.

The Dare Brings Back Early-2000s NYC Rock for 12 Joyless Minutes on ‘The Sex EP’
Image
To even comment on the Dare, the provoca-pop project of 27-year-old private-school substitute teacher turned downtown NYC enfant celebre Harrison Patrick Smith, is to have lost the game. The Dare, which released its debut EP last week, feels like a musical pseudo-event, existing only for the purpose of feeding its perpetual-motion publicity machine. Listening to The Sex EP doesn’t do much to ease the feeling that the songs are only tangential to Smith’s nascent project’s overall point.

More than 12-ish minutes, The Sex EP rages through a...

The Flash Season 9, Episode 10, 'A New World, Part One,' Recap & Spoilers
Image
The following contains spoilers for The Flash Season 9, Episode 10, "A New World, Part One," which debuted Wednesday, May 3 on The CW.

As The Flash prepares to conclude its nine-season run, Barry revisits this traumatizing occasion once again in the first installment of its four-part series finale. While Barry has returned to this incident before, this time it gives him a sense of closure that has eluded him as he finds himself moving through time.

Nine months have passed since Oliver Queen returned to help Team Flash defeat Bloodwork, with Iris West ready to give birth to her and Barry’s daughter. While Iris is notified she is winning a Pulitzer Prize for her article on the Red Death -- as...

DC's TV Shows Are Laying All The Groundwork For The Flash Movie's Multiverse
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To" and Titans season 4, episode 9 "Dude, Where's My Gar?"Multiple DC Comics TV shows have been making reference to a shared multiverse in anticipation of The Flash movie. This does not seem to be entirely coincidental, with the idea of a shared multiverse linking multiple properties being explored repeatedly in the shows making up the Arrowverse. This suggests that the shared multiverse of the DC television series will be playing a role in The Flash movie and will form the base of the new cinematic DC Studios Multiverse.

The plot of The Flash movie has been kept a mystery, apart from it being broadly based on the Flashpoint comic book storyline, where Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) accidentally creates a twisted alternate reality. The final trailers for the film have confirmed this,...

The Flash Hints At Jesse Quick's Fate After Ignoring Her For 3 Years
Image
Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9

After ignoring the Jesse Quick mystery for three years, The Flash is finally hinting at her post-Crisis fate. Played by Violett Beane, the daughter of Earth-2’s Harrison Wells was among the first Arrowverse characters to die in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Though not actually featured in the event, Jesse seemingly perished when Earth-2 was erased in Arrow’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” episode.

Earth-Prime was restored after the Crisis, but not everyone in the Arrowverse had a place in the new world Oliver Queen built. Jesse Quick, a once-valued member of Team Flash, was still counted as one of the casualties. It was likely that her absence was owed to the fact that Jesse was the daughter of a pre-Crisis Harrison Wells, whereas Earth-Prime’s version of the character had no children. After the Crisis, Team Flash came to the conclusion that Jesse had died,...

‘The Flash’ Season 9, Episode 9: Recap & Ending, Explained: What Was Oliver’s Parting Message To Barry?
Image
In its final season, so far, C.W.’s The Flash has never really made the impression of making an honest effort to redeem itself from the mediocrity of the past few seasons, nor did it offer the long-time fans something to feel excited about—that is, until the recently released ninth episode of this season titled It’s my party, and I’ll die if I want to. It saw the return of fan-favorite CW Arrowverse icons, can be easily regarded as some of the top stuff in comic-book-oriented media on the small screen in recent times, along with HBO Max’s Titans Season 4 Episode 9 and the ongoing Superman & Lois. The long-awaited return of Green Arrow in the final season of The Flash was something that kept the fans binge-watching the series once again, and the episode brought him back with due reverence as well. Stephen Amell's Arrowverse Return Makes Oliver & Felicity's Ending Even More Tragic
Image
Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9

Oliver and Felicity’s ending in Arrow is made considerably more tragic by what The Flash season 9 revealed about Stephen Amell’s character. The events that took place in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” saw the Green Arrow make the ultimate sacrifice. However, it’s known from what happened in the Arrow series finale that Oliver and his wife, Felicity, will reunite in the afterlife when she inevitably meets her end.

The Flash season 9, episode 9, titled “It’s My Party And I’ll Die If I Want To,” brought back Oliver for emotional reunions with both Barry Allen and John Diggle. In addition to giving him a team-up with his former allies, The Flash season 9 was able to dive a bit deeper into Oliver’s role as the Spectre. Through his talks with Barry, a great deal was learned about how things work for...

DC Reveals A New Fact About Flash's Speedsters & It's Really Disturbing
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Part and I'll Die If I Want To."A disturbing aspect of speedster powers was revealed through a shocking fact about the baby Nora West-Allen in The Flash season 9. The birth of Iris and Barry's first child has been teased repeatedly since the two first got married. The blessed event was finally confirmed to be approaching in The Flash season 9, but, as is typical for The Flash family, the experience has been anything but normal.

The events of The Flash season 9 episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," placed all of Team Flash in danger, as Barry Allen's surprise birthday party was crashed by the villain Bloodwork, who had recently escaped Argus custody. The Flash Season 9 Ignores Diggle’s Spinoff (& It Avoids An Arrow Mistake)
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."John Diggle's appearance in The Flash season 9 completely ignored his upcoming Justice U spinoff. It is unclear if this was because the series is being planned to tie into the Earth of Superman and Lois, or if the series' future is uncertain given recent management changes at The CW and DC Studios. In either case, it avoids a mistake made by the final season of Arrow.

John Diggle was among the many friends gathered for Barry Allen's surprise birthday party in The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To." He was also among the people who were possessed by the villain Bloodwork, as he schemed to manipulate Kid Flash Wally West into helping him enslave multiple worlds across the multiverse. This threat enabled Oliver Queen,...

We Now Know What Happened To Oliver Queen After His Death & Spectre Change

Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."The final fate of Oliver Queen and what happened to him after his death and transformation into The Spectre in Arrow was revealed in The Flash season 9. Death itself was not enough to stop Green Arrow from doing all he could to save the DC Multiverse. However, the final episodes of Crisis on Infinite Earths and the Arrow series finale were surprisingly vague about whether Oliver Queen survived the final battle to save reality.

Oliver Queen died a hero's death in the first chapter of the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, sacrificing himself to buy more time to evacuate Earth-38. This noble act enabled him to become the new host of the angel of vengeance known as The Spectre. In this capacity, Oliver Queen joined the battle against the Anti-Monitor...

The Flash Season 9 Finally Explains Khione’s Powers
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."The mysterious powers of Khione in The Flash season 9 have finally been explained. First appearing in The Flash season 9 premiere, Khione was a new personality born of Dr. Caitlin Snow's efforts to resurrect her deceased twin sister, Frost, who took over Caitlin's body. In the episodes that followed, Khione displayed a number of interesting abilities, but it was hard to quantify just what powers she had and what their source was. The only thing that was certain was that Khione was not a metahuman, like Frost, or an ordinary human, like Caitlin.

Khione took on a more active role than normal in The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," having mostly assisted Team Flash as a support player given her relative inexperience with the world in general.

Stephen Amell's The Flash Season 9 Return Makes His Arrowverse Ending Better
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."Oliver Queen was given a better, more satisfying ending to his story, thanks to Stephen Amell's appearance in The Flash season 9. Amell's return to the role that he played for eight seasons in Arrow helped to settle several questions that went unanswered following Oliver Queen's death in the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. It also addressed the fact that Oliver Queen's death denied him a proper farewell to many of his loved ones.

DC Just Confirmed Grant Gustin's Flash Is Better Than Ezra Miller's

Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."It was confirmed in The Flash season 9 that the Barry Allen of Earth-Prime played by Grant Gustin is better than the Dceu Flash, played by Ezra Miller. There are many heroes called The Flash in the DC Multiverse, and they are all great heroes. However, a qualified authority with some knowledge of the multiverse and all The Flashes declared the Barry Allen of the Arrowverse to be the best.

The Flash: Stephen Amell’s Arrow Return and the Beginning of the End for the Series
Image
This article contains The Flash spoilers.

The Flash Season 9 Episode 9

The end is truly nigh. After a handful of more standalone-style “interlude” episodes, The Flash enters its endgame with an hour that brings back old favorites and takes big narrative swings, restoring the multiverse and reminding Barry Allen of why he became a hero in the first place.

Any The Flash episode that features the long-awaited return of Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West, as well as guest appearances from Arrow stars Stephen Amell and David Ramsey, is basically guaranteed to be a must-watch, but “It’s My Party And I’ll Die If I Want To” is a surprisingly emotional installment on top of that, one that offers several characters some much-needed closure and a chance to rededicate themselves to fighting the good fight.

“Honestly, I’m so thrilled that this was the episode I got to direct,” says Danielle Panabaker,...

The Flash Season 9 Is Running Out Of Time For Its Last Big Villain
Image
Warning: Spoilers for The Flash season 9, episode 7

Surprisingly, The Flash season 9 is running out of time for its last big villain. In the midst of its final season, the last remaining series in The CW’s Arrowverse is approaching the end. After nine years of saving Central City from metahumans and teaming up with other superheroes, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen is on the cusp of his final onscreen adventure.

So far, The Flash season 9 has found room for an assortment of Arrowverse characters, some of which hailing from canceled shows like Supergirl, with others being familiar faces from Barry’s own superhero journey. Before the end arrives, Barry is expected to cross paths with even more Arrowverse characters, including Green Arrow, John Diggle, Kid Flash, Jay Garrick, Reverse-Flash, and more. Based on what’s known of its plans, The Flash has plenty on its plate for its ninth and final season.

1 Villain In The Flash Season 9 Hints At How Cisco Can Return
Image
One villain in The Flash season 9 hints at a potential return for Cisco. So far, there’s no official word on whether or not Carlos Valdez will be among the Arrowverse actors guest-starring in The Flash’s final season. But as someone who was on the show for seven years, Cisco is easily the biggest character missing from season 9.

With this being the last chapter in Barry’s superhero journey (and the Arrowverse as a whole), The Flash is making an effort to bring back a collection of key characters from the show’s past seasons. Along with a few other villains, Gorilla Grodd appeared in season 9’s Red Death arc. Returns are planned for several others as well, including Green Arrow, Diggle, Jay Garrick, Reverse-Flash, Eddie Thawne, Captain Singh, Wally West, Zoom, and more. As for Cisco, though, it remains to be seen if the original Team Flash member...

5 Arrowverse Characters Who Still Need To Return For The Flash Season 9
Image
Five key characters from Barry Allen’s Arrowverse story still need to return for The Flash season 9. As the show’s final season, it’s no surprise that the series is finding room for a number of heroes and villains from Barry’s past. Some, like Oliver Queen, Teddy Sears' Zoom, Wally West, and Jay Garrick haven’t appeared yet and remain missing for the time being, but are confirmed to show up soon.

Many of its returning characters have been unexpected additions to the series. In its first six episodes alone, The Flash has managed to bring back Goldface, Pied Piper, Hazard, the Hotness, the original Rainbow Raider, Gorilla Grodd, and more. While this is an impressive list, season 9 is actually missing out on quite a few characters much more important to The Flash than Hazard or Rainbow Raider. That said, The Flash still has several episodes left before the series finale,...

Jimmy Kimmel on What He Remembers From the First Night of His Talk Show 20 Years Ago: ‘I Was Totally Unprepared’
Image
The odds that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” would still be here, 20 years after its launch on Jan. 26, 2003, were astronomically low. The network hadn’t done a traditional late-night talk show since the short-lived “Into the Night With Rick Dees” in 1991, and the time slot’s previous inhabitant, “Politically Incorrect,” had been canceled due to declining ratings — and controversy over 9/11-related comments host Bill Maher had made.

Those early reviews were rough and the show struggled in its early months to book guests. And soon, Kimmel’s biggest backer at the network, then-abc chairman Lloyd Braun, was out the door.

But there was a glimmer of promise from the start: Early on, ABC execs said they were encouraged by the show’s first week national ratings, especially among young male viewers..

Among all of those hosts — Leno, Letterman, O’Brien, Kilborn — Kimmel is the only one left standing in late night, and...

The pilot for Olga Dies Dreaming, written by Gonzalez and to be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, tells the story of a Nuyorican brother (Rodríguez) and sister (Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park in Brooklyn who are reckoning with their absent, politically radical mother (De Jesús) and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

De Jesús’ plays Blanca Acevedo, a former Young Lord turned radical activist, who is brilliant and uncompromising. From an early age she was the family contrarian, always keenly aware of injustice: in her family, in the neighborhood and the world.

Jesse Williams also stars.

The Flash's 'Cool' New Comic Book Arc Revealed: Here's Who You'll Meet Next
Image
There are Forces to be reckoned with, The Flash made crystal clear in this Tuesday’s episode — kicking off, in earnest, the “cool, fun” comic book storyline that Grant Gustin previously teased.

Gustin had told TVLine that, a short time after the Mirrorverse storyline ends, “We’re going to see something that’s from an arc in the comic books, with a handful of different Forces” akin to the Speed Force from which Barry draws his own meta powers. “It’s a cool storyline that we explore for a stretch of episodes, and the actors that they got to portray...

The Flash: 10 Things That Don't Make Sense About Season 6
Sheldon D. Brown and Matthew Fifer in Cicada (2020)
Over 6 seasons, The Flash has maintained a similar formula for its storylines; introduce the season's main villain and have the characters fight them in each episode until they eventually win in the end. All this while dealing with minor villains that pop up from time to time.

Related: The Flash: 10 Comic Arcs They Should Adapt For Season 7

The Flash manages to keep things interesting by introducing different types of villains. While the most formidable villains of the show were speedsters like Barry, recent seasons switched things up. Season 4 had The Thinker, season 5 had Cicada, and Season 6 had Bloodwork and Mirror Master.

Unfortunately, like most shows, not everything about The Flash is perfect. The sixth season, in particular, had some plot points and storylines that didn't make sense. Some of these were due to inconsistencies with the rest of the series, while some were new plot points the show left unexplained.

Justin Hammer Reportedly Returning For Armor Wars
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a constant state of evolution and expansion, but that doesn’t mean Kevin Feige won’t reach deep into the back catalogue for inspiration. The franchise has a massive 25 film and television projects in various stages of development, and while many of them are casting brand new faces, there are also more than a few relying on some familiar names from the earliest days of Phase One.

The vast majority of the original Avengers are being cycled out in favor of fresh blood with Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk, Riri Williams’ Ironheart and Sam Wilson’s Captain America all on the horizon, but Thor: Love and Thunder will keep the old guard more than well represented.

Tim Roth’s Abomination will also return in She-Hulk, Nick Fury finally takes top billing in Secret Invasion, and Colonel James...

A Popular Villain Will Reportedly Return To The Flash Soon
The Flash season 6 introduced a new story structure for the show in contrast with previous years, as the run was split into two, with different villains dominating each half. First of all, Team Flash came up against Dr. Ramsey Rosso Aka Bloodwork, as played by Sendhil Ramamurthy, who was summarily defeated and thrown in Iron Heights in episode 9. But he later turned up for an episode of season 6B, too, during the Eva McCulloch Mirror Master arc.

Unlike most other big bads, then, Bloodwork survived his defeat, which leaves the door open for his return at a later date. And sure enough, we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones who previously told us Kevin Conroy was playing Kingdom Come Batman in “Crisis,” HBO Max is developing a Justice League Dark show with J.J. Abrams and an Arrow spinoff is in the works – that the plan is to...

How The Flash's Delayed Finale Twist Will Affect Season 7's 'Graphic Novels'
Image
Much is in flux at The Flash, (almost) all of it born of the pandemic pressing pause on production. But what might that delay mean for Season 7’s new “graphic novel” arcs?

Season 6 of The CW’s No. 1 series introduced what then-incoming showrunner Eric Wallace dubbed a “graphic novel” format, seeing as the first eight episodes had to set the stage for the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event and were thus a bit standalone. As such, “Graphic Novel No. 1” had its own Big Bad in Dr. Ramsey Rosso aka Bloodwork, while Graphic Novel No. 2 (which kicked off post-Crisis) focused...

The Flash Will Finally Face Off With [Spoiler] in Season 7, Ep Confirms

After nearly a half-dozen fake-outs, The Flash will finally face off against a most formidable foe from the comics.

The CW’s No. 1 series first teased the introduction of the white-and-gold clad Godspeed during Season 5, when Barry and Iris’ daughter Nora, in the year 2049, bested the sinister speedster with a good amount of help from the imprisoned Eobard Thawne aka Reverse-Flash.

The Flash Season 6 Reviews and Episode Guide
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
The Flash season 6 has finally concluded its run. It was a few episodes earlier than we had expected or hopes, thanks to a Covid-19 related production shutdown, but it still managed to be the best overall season of the show in years.

Whether it was Barry’s sharp new Flash costume, new showrunner Eric Wallace, the way the series was rocked by the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the way this season is put the women of Team Flash and the Central City Citizen front and center, or just the most compelling villains we’ve seen since season three, The Flash Season 6 was a winner.

Why Mirror Master is the Best The Flash Villain in Years
Image
This article contains The Flash spoilers.

So much about The Flash Season 6 has been about taking risks and telling new kinds of stories. From its split season “graphic novel” format to its long-overdue focus on female characters, the show has been charting the sort of refreshingly exciting path that most series in their sixth year simply don’t bother even attempting.

The result? Season 6 is arguably the best overall outing of The Flash in recent years, radiating a new vision and energy that not even a coronavirus pandemic-enforced early ending could diminish. And of the biggest reasons for that has been its villains. Yes, really.

A show that frequently struggled to give Barry Allen compelling bad guys to fight who weren’t named Eobard Thawne, The Flash completely overhauled its approach to Big Bads in Season 6 and instead focused on smaller stories with more relatable, human elements. The show first...

When Does The Flash Season 6 Hit Netflix?
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
So you somehow missed out on The Flash Season 6? Well, we’ve got plenty of good news for you. For starters, it’s overall the best batch of episodes the show has produced since at least the third season, putting Barry Allen and Team Flash through their paces in genuinely new and inventive ways. For another, it might just be the best Arrowverse overall this year…with the exception of Legends of Tomorrow which is immortally, impossibly great. These, along with the presence of a little something called Crisis on Infinite Earths, should be enough to make you want to catch up on this series, right?

Well, you’ll be able to watch The Flash Season 6, or just watch it again if you enjoyed it enough, when it hits Netflix on May 20. It joins the recently completed Arrow Season 8 and Riverdale Season 4 on the streaming service, and we’ll...

The Flash Season 6 Episode 19 Review: Success is Assured
Image
This The Flash review contains spoilers.

The Flash Season 6 Episode 19

For an episode that wasn’t supposed to be The Flash season 6 finale, I’ve gotta say, “Success is Assured” absolutely managed to look and feel big enough (and surprisingly mostly satisfying enough) to work as one. I never would have seen this coming. But maybe I should have.

After all, this season has spent almost all its time breaking rules. From the very start, new showrunner Eric Wallace planned to break with several conventions, not just of The Flash, but the entire Arrowverse. Notably (and most importantly) not trying to stretch a single villain out over a 22 (well…in this case 19) episode season. Hence this year’s two “graphic novels” (as he called them), with Bloodwork as the villain of the first half before Crisis on Infinite Earths, and then Eva McCulloch coming in as Mirror Master for the 2021 episodes.

Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
Mirror Master: The Secrets of Eva McCulloch and The Flash Season 6 Villain
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
This article contains The Flash spoilers if you aren’t all caught up through episode 18 of season six.

Save for Season 1’s Eobard Thawne – who also happens to be Barry Allen’s most iconic nemesis – The Flash has often struggled to craft compelling villains. From Zoom to Savitar and both versions of Cicada, the bad guys on this show tend to be fairly one-note, with goals that are generally straightforward and often not all that interesting. Steal Barry’s speed! Murder Iris! Take over the world with a weirdo brain helmet! Yawn.

The Flash Season 6 has worked diligently to reverse this trend, first with Ramsey Rosso’s Bloodwork, a villain driven by a fear of death and his own mortality rather than a lust for power and now in Eva McCulloch, a woman trapped in an alternate dimension for six years, who just wants to get back the life she left behind.

Grant Gustin Addresses Complaints Of There Not Being Enough Flash In Season 6
The Flash season 6 has taken the novel approach of splitting its story arc into two halves – or two “graphic novels,” as showrunner Eric Wallace likes to call them. The first half dealt with Bloodwork and the threat of the incoming Crisis. The second, meanwhile, has dealt with the mysterious Black Hole organization and Barry Allen losing his speed, as a result of the Crisis. This has allowed the show to explore who the hero is without his full power set, but at the same time, fans have been missing all that Scarlet Speedster action.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of next week’s finale, star Grant Gustin somewhat defended the lack of the Flash in costume over the past few episodes. The actor admitted that, to him, it’s only a good thing, as he gets to be more comfortable while filming.

“For me, it’s been fun! I mean,...

The Flash Season 6 Episode 17 Review: Liberation
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
This The Flash review contains spoilers.

The Flash Season 6 Episode 17

How good is “Liberation?” It’s so good that perhaps the most eye-rollingly saccharine, falsetto piano ballad-fueled final two minutes in the history of The Flash couldn’t even dent it. I’m leading with this because it’s the only time in this review I’m gonna bother to get my evil mirror shard knife hands out, because really, this was a great way to spend an hour.

Last week brought us “So Long and Goodnight,” which at times felt like the most traditionally superhero-y episode this show has had all season. But “Liberation” is one of those Flash episodes that feels like it could work just as well outside of the confines of the DC Universe. It’s another hour without Barry in costume (something we’ve seen a few times this season), one where he barely even uses his powers,...

The Flash Recap: Slinged Blades — Did 'WestAllen' Crack the Mirror Problem?
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
This week on The Flash, Barry argued that “Iris” isn’t his actual wife. But when it came time to make his case, did the evidence reflect poorly on him? Plus, which blast from the past made a surprise appearance?

Kicking off what was without a doubt the strongest episode of Season 6B, Cisco fired up the artificial speed force he built “based solely on the teachings is history’s most evil speedster,” only to watch it rev up… and then peter out. What’s the missing element? Barry is too distracted to care much. Even when Cecile asks if...

The Flash Star Grant Gustin Says He Wants To Play A Villain
Stephen Amell in Arqueiro (2012)
As of the conclusion of Arrow earlier this year, Grant Gustin is now the longest-serving leading man of the Arrowverse, having debuted as Barry Allen on the aforementioned show in 2013 before The Flash kicked off the following year. He’s been living the superhero life for a long time, then, which is maybe why the star has got an itch to go over to the dark side.

In a chat with Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast, Gustin spoke about how he’d like to play a villain at some point in order to “shake things up” after so long of portraying the Scarlet Speedster – not that he’s getting bored of being the savior of Central City, mind you.

“At this point, I’d say it’d be fun to play a villain, just because I’ve done so much Barry Allen over the years. I also...
