Extremely Satisfying
goodfella4794 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After missing out on this show for nearly 5 years, I gave it a try on a recommendation. I was hooked after watching the pilot, but felt after seasons 1 and 2 that there was too much unfinished business and left rather unsatisfied with the position everything was at. That in and of itself made it more of an interesting way to move from season to season, and also set up for such a wowzer sequence at the end of season 3. As the crew is loaded into the van, the chief parting ways with his gun and badge, you cant help but sit there and think "not again dammit". But still wonder what they have in store for Jax making amends in the upcoming seasons. Then, everything gets set right - and in a way that is up there with Shawshank as far as how big of a smile I was left with when the credits rolled. Kudos to the writers of this episode and of all others, as they have truly made this one of the best drama shows of all time.

That being said, when the heck is season 5 going to be on-demand with Xfinity or available on Netflix? I'm going to go nuts in about 3-4 days.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow what a finale. They did it all perfectly.

And this is even though they took off one of my favorite characters. Agent Stahl. Oh I loved her! She was so ruthless, I was hoping to see so much more of her. But I guess it was time. The good thing is that she went out in a pretty shocking manner that I didn't even expect. A little revenge for Opie.

I also didn't expect her to rat out Jax. I seriously thought that he is in trouble now and the next season will be about him trying to deal with the club. But they were all in on it, well all but Gemma and maybe Tara.

While this finale rounded everything up we are given an extra thing to wonder about for the next season. It looks like Clay and Gemma played a part in the death of Jax's dad. Let's see what will be more to come about it.

Andd yes, the whole IRA thing wasn't realistic. But yet it was very entertaining and skillfully done. I don't mind if there is less reality when more quality.

An epic season finale
athomed30 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It doesn't matter what the season finale for The Simpsons was, and I couldn't even give you the rough plot outline of a Seinfeld season finale except the last episode, but they really matter for a crime drama like SoA. They're important for dramas. They're important in keeping us invested. Dramas build on the major plot week to week. They need a good payoff on that plot by the finale. I could absolutely tell you the season finale to many seasons of Lost. And who can forget Jack being gift-wrapped for the Chinese at the end of season 5 of 24? I was a little disappointed with the S2 finale Na Triobloidi. But S3's NS is one of the best finales in the show's history. It's the exact opposite of what you might call a by the numbers finale. All the loose ends get tied up, I mean all the right characters find themselves at the end of a gun, or the blade of a knife. This is a powerful hour of television. It's particularly satisfactory to have S3 end on a strong note, given that this season is episode for episode the weakest one in my opinion. But hey, the weakest season of SoA is miles ahead of Grey's Anatomy or any drama you'll find on network television for that matter. Way to go, FX.

There's a real cathartic feeling to the final five or ten minutes of this episode. A sense of the wounds gained in S2 healing. Jax, Clay and the club are on good terms. Stahl is out of the picture for good. They're looking at small time and a more lucrative deal with the IRA to fall back on when they get out. But at the same time, Tara sits at Jax's houses reading letters from his father to Maureen in Belfast. It's understood that these letters may have the power to rip apart all the healing that's taken place between Jax and the MC. The secrets surrounding JT and the years leading up to his death that have long been put to bed by Clay and Gemma are threatening just beneath the surface. A brilliant season finale never lets you get too comfortable. Things can change at a moment's notice. There's no episode better to express that than a season finale. 10 out of 10. Can't wait to start re-watching S4.

This season was fine, but the finale really brings it home. The best SOA has to offer!!

Really satisfying finale. Lots of turning points, and the twist at the end was delightful. This episode embodies why SOA is really beloved.

Even I was fooled...first surprise of the series...smart episode!
AliveForThrive17 January 2015
Rating this a 10 out of 10 as the last minute of this episode was the first time I felt surprise in three seasons - or two months of watching the series on DVD!

IMDb is a blessing and a curse because people can see spoilers whether trying to avoid them or not. I don't want to give away any plot points but will say I sure found it curious everyone in the van was laughing. Luckily the letter cleared my confusion!

I've been ignoring the "arm chair screen writing" and "Monday morning directing" and other criticisms that are on the boards. "NS" proved this series is worth every minute. You may have to wait for amazing moments, but any quality drama builds. The best things are worth waiting for and SoA "NS" proves it!

Warning: Spoilers
Just speechless, they had me. Stahl told Samcro that Jax made a deal, we see Clay promising he's a dead man. Then Unser stops Stahl and Jimmy then Kozik, Chibs and Opie arrive. Chibs kills Jimmy and Opie kills stahl. Apperently Samcro voted that they were doing this. The episode ends with the letters Maureen had from JT that she hid in jax's bag. Tara found the letters and it seems Clay and Gemma had something to do with JT's death. Amazing season once again, best episode thus far.

Best performance: Charlie Hunnam

Easily the best episode of the series!
mustangmama-938812 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is jam packed with the SOA getting revenge with those that hurt them or their family. I could watch this episode over and over, it's so satisfying!! Watching Filip ( Chibs) kill Jimmy and Opie killing Agent Stahl was AWESOME!! Plus I love the 2 power couples of Opie/Lyla and Jax/Tara so I got my fill of sappy happiness with Opie's wedding and Jax proposing.

Hands down one of the best hours of Tv ever
bhester080618 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode knocked it out of the park. It is such a well rounded end to the first three seasons. It's so refreshing after a mediocre season 3. It really sets the tone for the next two seasons (the best two over all).

Spoilers ahead

The acting hits its heights with the fake rat scenes. On a first watch you really don't pick up that it's all a master plan. You really think everyone's turned. But when Wayne takes his badge off as Neil Young plays you start see things coming into shape. Phenomenal writing and acting across the board.

The best episode in television
armstrongcorey4 September 2022
The end of season 3.... Without giving anything away. This episode is perfection in writing and execution. It's some of the best moments in television history. I've watched it about fifteen times before writing this. In my opinion it's the best episode of the best series of all time. It has everything anyone can ask for and is the perfect median to the best series of all time. I laughed, I loved, I cried. It's the perfect episode. And it's a perfect median of a series to wrap one series of problematic events and also lead perfectly into another. Sons of anarchy never disappoints. But this specific episode is the cream of the crop. Perfection.

Not sure why all the hate. Thought it was the best season closer since the end of Breaking Bad
ivanmckinnon3 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure why people are hating on this so much here. Without disclosing any spoilers I thought they did a great tie in job. One of the best season finales I've seen in years. You do have to have some suspension of disbelief for some of it (as you had to do for the entire season) but if they did everything by the book it would be boring as hell. Really when you look at it Breaking Bad had some outlandishly implausible story lines but was still one of the most enjoyable and best shows of the last decade or two. Not sure why SOA doesn't get as much of a pass on the suspension of disbelief. Extremely satisfying end to season 3 in my opinion.

Perfect Season Finale
jace-rynearson15 December 2022
Holy cow, I thought this would be just another cliffhanger, and it kept baiting me into thinking that throughout this episode. However, that's just one of the ways it surprised me, it brought so much to a close that I feel is effective. There are so many wonderful plot twists that make the admittedly slow pacing of this season completely worth it, and plenty of emotionally satisfying moments in this one, something you wouldn't hear me say I'd expect of Sons of Anarchy years before. Also, this is a complete turn around from the last season's cliffhanger, using that cliffhanger to tie up pretty much everything in the show, tying up loose ends that had been in the show for years. I'm so glad they didn't end the show here, but this is how you properly end a season.

Tie up episode.
mm-396 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Tie up episode. With a long soap opera season the show improves. After watching a season where everyone's wives, girlfriends etc kill someone! This season has every cop, boy at gas station knows Sam Crows business. The club's prospects are doing way to important and over their head business. One wonders why the whole gang is not in jail. I thought season three lost any relevance with realism, and call the season a soap opera. In the end the last season's show is a tie up episode. The gaps etc are all filled in. Everyone avoids serious jail time, the right people die, and the gang rides on in true t v fashion. A few surprises in this episode. I give this show 8 out of 10 for shock value, while the rest of the season is rubbish.

Sons of Anarchy's Greatest Episode? Let's see...
TheMelancholySpirit17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Sons of Anarchy, up until this point, had been a flawed, yet oftentimes solid series. Guns, motorcycles, alcohol, smoking, fighting, drama, rock & roll meets biker meets outlaw sort of thing going on, right? This is the style. You'd think perhaps that maybe, after a certain number of episodes, this series would become tiresome or repetitive. Well, I sort of agree but I kind of think it's a bit later in the series that it becomes this - and yet, season three was a much weaker season than that of its predecessors, cuz seasons 1 and 2 were better than 3. How? To me, their pacing, consistency, dialogue, and the writing as a whole. It felt livelier, fresh, intriguing, explosively fun at times, and was true to its thrilling joyride nature. Three is this, but it's just a bit mixed and jumbled, and its inconsistencies are shown, especially the whole back and forth Belfast, Ireland thing. NS, however, is *that* good a finale, you're almost carefree regarding its season's status. NS is a so damn good a finale that in my wholehearted opinion, it may even be better the second time you watch it. It's because the twists, the technical aspects of its decision making and every bit of what's going on, it's so compelling, it's just phenomenal. First time, I was like "woah, wait, what?!" But found myself more calm and collected watching it next time around, taking in everything bit by bit of what's happening and what the story is unfolding. I was listening, unlike on first view so much happens so fast, it is just pure mayhem. I just understood perfectly clear on second viewing, everything from the letters to the 14 months time to the ambush and getting Jimmy (again) and finally getting agent Stahl(?) I think that's their spelling of it, and every little in between from Unser and his badge to Gemma and her tag as she reads the letter before burning it, to Tara reading the letters herself, of course one of the big things is you're led to believe at first that Jax rats on the club, but he obviously didn't, and the little nuances like the motorcycle beeping their horns to confirm their deaths, how Jax is saying mom, if you're reading this, Jimmy and Stahl, they're dead.. it's a more technically written, complex in its execution type of episode - finale - than you would think. Or maybe I'm just slow. Haha. Whatever the case, the writing, dialogue, nuances, twists, action, everything in this episode was utterly enthralling. It was riveting, flawless, explosive, monumental, memorable, versatile, dark, brutal, excellent, magnificent and beautiful, all wrapped into this engaging and truly engrossing finale. If you're looking for the best Sons episode, this probably is the one. Only three episodes come close, they are "Hands"(season 4, episode 10), "Laying Pipe" (season 5, episode 3- heartbreaking episode), or the very last episode, which is "Papa's Goods"(season 7, episode 13). Sure , there are plenty other amazing episodes- most of my favourites are actually beyond season 3 cuz they're mostly of season 4 and 7 (7 sort of redeemed itself from 6, the worst season alongside 3 despite 3 having this masterpiece finale. Season 6 was still good though, but I think 7 was much better.) NS is one of the greatest episodes in TV history, make sure you watch it. Gripping, exhilarating, tremendously, absolutely expertly written.
