After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

As the undisputed king of streaming (for now at least), Netflix has enjoyed the presence of some major blockbusters. Now, with its list of new releases for May 2022, Netflix is bringing back one of its biggest ever hits.
Stranger Things season 4 “volume one” is set to premiere on May 27. It’s been a long wait for new episodes of this ’80s-tinged sci-fi/horror series and based on the trailers, the wait will have been well worth it. In this go-around, the kids of Hawkins (now high schoolers) will have to contend with the Upside Down once again to go along with the horrors of the Creel House.
While Stranger Things is the biggest Netflix original this month, it’s far from the only one. Mike Myers’ latest series The Pentaverate premieres on May 5 (fittingly: 5/5). Meanwhile The Lincoln Lawyer is set to arrive on May 13 followed by Love, Death & Robots Volume...

Global streamer Netflix has expanded its slate of unscripted entertainment programming in Japan.
The company says it has 15 shows in the comedy, reality television and documentary genres in different stages of development. Of these, seven will launch on the platform in the current calendar year.
Upcoming shows include: dating series “Love Village,” “The Future Diary,” and a second season of “Love is Blind: Japan,” which is now casting and will play next year. Japanese documentaries include: “LiSA Another Great Day,” which celebrates the titular artist’s career as one of the top singers of wildly popular anime theme songs; “Sing, Dance, Act: Kabuki,” featuring former-idol-turned-actor Toma Ikuta’s immersion in the world of New Kabuki; and “Tokyo Crime Squad: The Lucie Blackman Case.”
The update was announced in a blog posting by Kobayashi Mitsuko Koyabashi and Goto Taro, managers of live action creative, Japan. Their messaging attempted to straddle the local and the universal.

In a move that befits the streaming era, Japan’s Tokyo Broadcasting System Television is looking to make itself more of an international force. It will invest in more international shows and strike new coproduction partnerships.
The company unveiled its new strategy on Friday at the South By South West (SXSW) festival in the U.S.
It followed ten months on from the launch of TBS’s Vision 2030 program which sought to increase content spending, launch a new division and expand into related areas such as licensing. The new unit was announced as having a content budget of JPY30 billion ($266 million).
To realize its vision as an international force, TBS will be looking for global partners for co-production of creative content for the global and Japanese audience; co-production of live entertainment for the global audience; strategic co-investment in global content; and combining cutting edge technology to create top-notch entertainment.

Photo: 'The Future Diary' Visually beautiful and full of utterly adorable romantic moments, the new lovey-dovey reality series ‘The Future Diary’ has now premiered on Netflix. With its comical segments and times where it feels story-like as though it’s straight out of a visual novel, this lovely reality series is exactly something we all need in this weird and crazy time. This especially applies to those (like me) who aren’t too fond of romantic reality TV shows, because this series will make you sunken into your couch and eat ice cream along with the people in the show as you wonder what will come next.
