The Unnatural History of the Kakapo

Even for people that aren't huge fans of the Kakapo, this nature documentary is a wonderful watch. We follow the chase to rescue the last Kakapo in the wild during the mid-70s, and up to 2009, where less than a hundred Kakapo are still left on the planet.

We follow scientists as the race to find, capture, and isolate the elusive and nocturnal Kakapo in New Zealands beautiful nature. Having been at the mercy of animal wildlife introduced by humans, the Kakapo was almost hunted to extinction. This has likely led to a genetic bottleneck, where the diversity is severely lacking, making it even harder to achieve a healthy population, even if the remaining Kakapo can get a safe place to live.
