Kept wanting more
chadhardy-6446912 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I will have to admit it did start out rather slow and confusing, but as it went on, I kept wanting to watch just to see what new personalities would pop up and how he would deal with them. Definitely a different twist to a chick flick. It did keep both of us interested in it. As far as the acting goes, I will leave it at. I guess you do have to start somewhere in your careers. Many scenes throughout the movie were multiple characters, including extras in the background or obviously trying way way too hard to get their point across did get a great chuckle out of, the "acting" but still by the end of it, it had sucked me into the movie, and I do believe I would watch a sequel.

Cant believe someone wasted money making this
radiobunny-0635113 August 2022
The acting was stiff and uncomfortable. The plot was predictable. Why did someone make this ? I feel like there was no heart in this. It was rushed, tacky and the main lead actress lacked basic skills. I would pass on this one.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
pyrotypings15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing separating this film from other irreparably horrendous films is that the cinematography is decent. But that's where this movie's good parts end.

I don't know what this movie was trying to accomplish. It's narrated by the main character's best friend, but that friend is not that central to the plot. Clearly, this is a romance but the movie doesn't set up the characters as likeable or relatable, and their romance feels forced. Like the only reason these characters are together is because that is what is supposed to happen. They don't have any chemistry, and it feels like our main character is just being carted from scene to scene with no real direction. His girlfriend and her many (literal) personalities don't have any connection or bond to her male counterpart so every scene with them in it is a weird dance that doesn't leave me feeling like there's any connection there.

Plus he doesn't respect her boundaries or wishes and continues trying to interact with her when she repeatedly tells him to leave her alone after she breaks up with him. Which she does because he doesn't respect her boundaries and tries to force her to realize she has multiple personalities.

This is without even mentioning that these alternate personalities are all boring stereotypes and the way they're presented is the jazzed up, fake internet version of Dissociative Identity Disorder. It's beyond bad and I would not recommend this to anyone. It's not even so bad it's funny. It's just bad.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen
zippytips20 August 2022
I've seen a lot of bad movies, but this is a special kind of bad. It's a romantic comedy that is neither comedic nor romantic. It's a collection of rough draft notes someone managed to stretch into an hour and a half long dumpster fire.

To kick off this wreck of a film, we introduce our main guy: Conrad. Conrad has no personality to speak of. He has no history either. He is a completely blank piece of paper who everyone is mean to for no reason, and he offers about as much to the plot as your average living room sofa. Outside of him having OCD (which is not plot relevant AT ALL and somehow doesn't seem to add any nuance to his character), Conrad has nothing discernible interesting about him.

And yet here he is, pursuing Molly - a woman he was weirdly hostile to once in a coffee shop while on an errand for his boss and now we have the setup for our movie. Molly is your average romance movie girl. She's blonde and a woman, but other than that she feels more like a doll than a person. Even her additional personalities are boring, one-dimensional cardboard cutouts with no depth to speak of.

And this is all without touching on the fact that the acting is abysmal. It's not even so bad it's funny. It's just plain painful to watch. Not a single line is delivered with any amount of believability. Honestly this feels like a deep learning program's first attempt at generating human interaction. It's awkward and disjointed and it's only made worse by the fact that NONE of these characters have chemistry. I'm not even sure Conrad and Molly would make good friends, let alone romantic partners.

All in all, it's terrible. Bad acting, bad setup, and a bad premise that does a major disservice to OCD and DID. Don't waste your time or money.

Stereotypes! Stereotypes everywhere!
frizzthewizard15 August 2022
Every single character is a stereotype with no personality and no chemistry. You have the awkward and unloved lead, his aggressive boss, the manic pixie dream girl with the overly aggressive black friend, the country girl with the country accent, the overtly sexual kinkster in a punk band, and the list goes on. None of these characters have ANY chemistry and it makes every single interaction painful to watch.

Every piece of dialogue is a fumble that completely misses the mark it's aiming for. Scenes that aim to be funny are stifled by the fact that none of these characters fit together. Even scenes that are meant to be heartwarming or dramatic feel over-acted. The dialogue isn't funny or interesting, it's just deeply awkward.

There is nothing redeemable about this movie and if you are someone who experiences secondhand embarassment, you should avoid it. Save your money and watch something else.

Awful. Just awful.

Seriously I wish I had not watched this movie. Once I start something though I have to finish it. It was very cringey and played into boring stereotypes. Learn from my mistakes and suffering, do not bother with this.

The acting is terrible, the soundtrack is terrible. What is with the music? Any time the leads have a conversation it has some goofy elevator music behind it.

The characters have zero depth; they can't act at all. The DID thing has been portrayed a thousand times better than in this. So awful. So bad.

I RARELY turn off a movie or tv show; even if I'm not a fan of it. I had to turn this off within ten minutes because it was so cringey.

Don't even waste your time. It's a free movie, but it's not even worth that. I thought this would be a cute romcom but it didn't fit the bill in any department of decent movie.

There was an attempt..

Have you ever found a magazine while cleaning, and decided to give a quick read-through after finishing the housework? Then after finally finishing that magazine you were compelled to clean again, just to clear your mind of that awful mess of media and boring writing. This movie was that magazine. Hulu must've had a quota to fill or something, because it wasn't bad acting that tainted this film,It seemed to be rushed in each scene with little emotion from all the 'personalities' and that's me being generous. Its not a repeat viewing, its a 'turn on for background noise' film.(Now that I think about it,this would've made for a tolerable podcast🤔)

Ignore the biased crummy reviews
brealoraine5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't a blockbuster, or a box office hit, or a big budget film. Placing expectations THAT high seems to be where the negative reviews come from.

This is an excellent movie. I enjoyed it so much, that as soon as the ending said "well, that's for the sequel" I was COMPLETELY on board. It is a bit Cheesy, but I thought it hit Cheesy in a good way. And the hate on the main actress is completely unwarranted. I could tell which personality it was which pretty much as soon as her face changed, before the accent change.

Ignore the bad reviews. They're being WAY TOO harsh. It's not perfect, but neither is life. I truly recommend this movie.

Interesting take on Internal Family Systems and Personality Fragmentation
vineetavats25 June 2023
I'm a bit of a psychology nerd, so I decided to give this a shot. A bit campy and cheesy, yes. But surprisingly a great take on the psychological theories of 'Internal Family Systems' and 'Personality Fragmentation' using the RomCom format, and terms the average person recognizes like multiple personalities, even though its existence is hotly debated.

Found it to be a welcome break from all the horror and thriller movies constantly villanizing people with mental illness. Highly recommend the book 'No Bad Parts by Dr. Richard C. Schwartz' to anyone who enjoyed this.

If they actually do the sequel, I really hope they introduce an IFS therapist character, instead of the hypnotherapist guy, and really explore all the different personality fragments, and get to the source of the trauma, which led to her fragmentation. Would be fun to really see her get better and become a more functional and integrated person.

Awful movie
KarebearAngel2122 December 2022
There really isn't much to like about this film. The acting is stiff, the pacing is weird. I'm not sure if the directing was off or if it was the writing (leaning toward the writing). The overarching voice goes for funny, but it's just annoying. I didn't believe any interaction in the movie. It felt very much like a student film, which - maybe it was?

The leads were frustrating and unlikable. When you first meet the guy I think they're going for him being a himbo, but you have to be likable to be a himbo. The first time we meet the woman, Molly, she is rude and self absorbed and it's supposed to be cute? It's not. The dialogue was super odd. I don't know if the writer knows how anyone actually talks - because no one speaks like that.

"You're lucky I don't condone violence." "You're lucky I didn't drink milk growing up." Hahahahaha......... no.

Honestly, if you're on the fence about watching this, it's completely passable. You aren't missing a single thing. I would give this a 0/10 if I could.

Another bad movie
sherryrier8 June 2023
Middle school plays have better actors and story. Reading down through the reviews I see some "bot" comments saying what a great movie....yeah movie (HAHA) this was. Just plain junk, don't waste your time even starting this one. I can think of other ways to waste my time, like watching paint dry. Much more entertaining! Apparently they want me to write a book here. So it seems they took a few people off the street to star in a movie, and that's how this terrible thing was created. It's not cute, not romantic, and definitely NOT funny. A few words to describe it would be dumb, ridiculous, and lame! There, now I reached the limit haha!

Bad
TaraDiD10 December 2022
And this movie I wasn't expecting much from this movie because I just wanted an English language movie that was quick and easy like cake. This was just so bad. I just didn't believe a lot of the situations., it was just bad.

The characters were like paper cutouts. Kind of empty. It's like they tried to fill them up but they just didn't hit the mark.

There's no way he can be a chef if he's got OCD. He will never get any baking done because he will deflate everything he's trying to poof up because he has to open and close the stove door several times. I mean that was just stupid.

That girlfriend disassociative disorder just felt very unreal. Also how are these two making any money to survive when they have a huge psychological issues that are going to impact everything about their life. They're not going to be able to.

I really dislike the narration. Were there some characters I liked - yes. I liked the the main male character (Conrad) coworkers. The two male chefs and the female chef who think was the owner. I like the actor who played the Barista at the coffee shop. The actress who played the bartender that ended up dating the main character's best friend. I thought the best actor was Michael Nouri, who played the psychiatrist.

I like the main character when he played in Young and the Restless and I just didn't believe his character so it just didn't work. I didn't care for that main actress. I didn't I care for the script. If you want to watch a movie with this kind of storyline - main characters in male or female with a psychiatric issue the main characters love intrest male or female has a psychiatric issue there are way better movies to watch..

Poignant and funny
sistamyman10 December 2022
At first you think you're viewing a romcom.. and you are. But then, it takes it's twists and turns. Conrad is a blank slate that the movie builds on. You don't know much about him until you see him interact with the other characters and the female lead. His journey to help someone else ends up helping him, too.

The buddy scenes are hilarious and the pizza chef, Regina brings so much sass. The lighthearted way she jokes with the staff/owners is perfectly balanced with the serious subject of the film. It's the right amount of LOL's and AWWW's The final scene leaves us wanting to know "what's next!!??"

My Favorite Girlfriend
danodaymc-698-2602111 December 2022
My Favorite Girlfriend is a fun little enjoyable film. Really nice performances by the leads, Tyler Johnson and Bonnie Piesse. Both show the real and vulnerable sides of their characters as they maneuver in the world they live in, internally and externally.

Every single supporting character is strong and adds something to the story. Good casting all around.

An interesting quirky storyline with lots of funny-fun comedic elements along with some nice heartfelt moments. It's a sweet and amusing story that is well written and directed by Amanda Raymond. The story flows along and is paced nicely.

My Favorite Girlfriend is a cute Comedy Romance that works.

A fine film
jasonbruck-574-36752819 September 2022
Director Amanda Raymond, who herself is trained in clinical psychology, uses mental differences as a springboard for telling a uniquely charming story about falling in love with atypical minds. She is respectful of mental differences and does a great job telling a difficult story. This is her second feature film and her first rom com. However, she leads the production with the skill of someone who has been making these kinds of films all her life.

The characters are mostly interesting and you do want to see where things go at each turn. Props to Bonnie Piesse who does a wonderful job depicting this difficult role.

If you are looking for something unique this is a good bet.

Quirky representation of serious issues
aha-6987315 August 2022
I really enjoyed this, unlike many other reviewers here. I can't accuse this movie of being stereotypical, simply because so few movies actually address the issues portrayed here.

The way it DID portray those issues though was simplistic and comedic. It's more of a representation of those issues, rather than a serious depiction of them, and there's nothing wrong with that. There were some misguided moments. But I really appreciate the hints of something darker, and it left me wanting a lot more.

The acting was OK for what the movie was trying to do. It's a fluffy comedy, quit griping!

I really hope there's a sequel.

An exceedingly interesting and compelling twist on boy meets girl(s)
BWscribe25 September 2022
Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl is one of the oldest plots in human storytelling and it is possible that mere numbers could not express how many times this tale has been told. With that long lineage it is astounding that someone can find a way to make this time-honored theme refreshing... but that is exactly what writer-director Amanda Raymond has done in her latest film, "My Favorite Girlfriend."

Conrad, a young wannabe chef, played engagingly by Tyler Johnson, has fallen in love with several exceedingly unique young women. They range from an internet influencer, a sassy southern belle, a shopaholic to a ballsy rock singer. The good news is he loves them all and none of these ladies know each other. The bad news... they all inhabit the same body. He's smitten with woman possessed by a classic case of what is now called dissociative identity disorder played brilliantly by Bonnie Plesse. At first he goes along for the ride but as his feelings deepen he wants to help all of them... despite being oblivious to a situation far over his head.

If this sounds serious, it is - in spots... but My Favorite Girlfriend is also funny, romantic and amusing as well as thought provoking, dramatic and serious. It is a testament to Ms. Raymond as both writer and director that she guides her talented cast to tread this fine line between smiles and suspense with such admirable skill creating a romantic-comedy that delves deeper than most and is more satisfying for that reason.

One note... in reading reviews I have found, amid those who I believe actually saw the same film I did, an unusual amount of trolling. I won't go into why I think this is the case, but be warned... this fine film does not deserve this shoddy treatment. This production might have been done on a modest budget, but the results are first class and I think the viewer will find it ninety minutes exceedingly well spent.

Cheesy A.F!!
gab-6759911 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Since the beginning of this movie I have been trying to figure out just who this movie was aimed for. I can only come up with the possibility of Christians. I say that because it felt like it was supposed to be a movie for adults BUT they softened it up SO much that this could have been a G rated movie. If you like cheesy, independent, made in Hollywood films then this is a movie for you.

I was really hoping this was going to be a rom/com but it was way more rom than it was com. Stupid jokes, fake emotions from ALL the cast. I definitely didn't like how the movie ended with some girl named Melinda (And I ONLY knew her name thanks to caption, which I wish all movies would do) like "You knew this movie would suck so why act like you were going to make a pt.2"!?

Ok so for everyone else this movie would be stupid, but I enjoyed it a little and I did want to see what would happen next. It was more of a 4 star but I am sure they put a LOT of time and effort into making this and it was at LEAST half (5 star) good, I just added one star because I liked Misty Rosas. I think she was the highlight out of this horrible movie. I do not recommend seeing this one unless you love dumb movies.

A Touching Story
WuChi728 August 2022
Writer/director Amanda Raymond's sophomore feature, My Favorite Girlfriend, continues the promise hinted at in You Are My Home (2022), her feature debut. In that earlier film, she demonstrated a finely-tuned ability to humanize her characters in the script and then bring that quality out in the performances of the actors portraying them.

With My Favorite Girlfriend, Raymond skillfully applies that craft to the rom-com genre while simultaneously addressing the debilitating seriousness of dissociative identity disorder (DID), a psychological malady that in film is often mined either for laughs or - more often than not - horror. Raymond's film is just the right mix: it is fleet in its comic moments and moving in its dramatic ones.

Girlfriend's two stars - Tyler Johnson as "Conrad" and Bonnie Piesse as "Molly" - each successfully embrace the challenges of their character's struggles - obsessive compulsive disorder in Conrad's case and DID in Molly's. The supporting cast help humanize these characters by anchoring them in the real world. Veteran actor Michael Nouri is particularly effective as a hypnotherapist who helps Conrad - as well as the audience - fully understand the gravity of Molly's condition.

All things considered, My Favorite Girlfriend is a solid second feature and Amanda Raymond is an up-and-coming talent to watch, both as a writer and as a director.

I Hope THIS is read and understood.
mhelmb11 June 2023
This movie was a very good movie. I say this because if you see and understand how mental issues are then life is hard. This movie shows the ups and downs of a not so perfect life. Some say the scenes are cut short but honestly IF YOU KNOW MENTAL DISORDERS THATS HOW LIFE IS. I have disorders and my late fiancé had disorders and it felt like a roller coaster all the time but we managed to find love within the grey area and capture great memories within our lives. I'm so happy that there is a movie that's factual and real to what these scenarios are like in the real world.

Second movie wanted!!

Fascinating portrait of a Difficult Mental Disorder
miriamdavis-1149021 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film tackles the rare and difficult mental disorder, D. I. D.... Dissociative Identity Disorder. For most laymen this would be more commonly known as Multiple Personality Disorder. Not for many years has anyone attempted to tackle this disorder on film. "My Favorite Girlfriend" is a realistic and compassionate view of the many "personas" of the lead female character, and how that impacts a man attracted to one of the personas before he discovers the others. The female lead, Bonnie Piesse, does an outstanding and subtle job of creating at least 5 credible personalities that are quite distinct yet quite believable. Her boyfriend, played by Tyler Johnson, is equally believable in his shock and empathy once he is aware of Molly's many selves. From a therapist's point of view I think this makes for very interesting and credible viewing. I highly recommend it.

Light hearted yet deep, fully entertaining
cannonrosenau10 August 2022
I am a fan of this director (and writer of this film) as she always manages to pull at the heartstrings in a fun and entertaining way. My Favorite Girlfriend did just this. Female lead pulled off this role phenomenally (at first, the persona she was playing made it seem like she was over-acting, but hang in there, it works for the story).

Great movie! Definitely worth the price of admission so to speak!

Great Movie!
micost-2650210 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My Favorite Girlfriend is a well-written and directed flick that twisted and turned down funny avenues, drawing me more and more deeply into the very complicated relationship between Tyler Johnson and his newest girlfriend, or "girlfriends," Bonnie Piesse. Piesse shone as a woman whose complexities grew in each scene, leaving Johnson scratching his head and wondering what might come next. Their interactions with My Favorite Girlfriend's other kooky characters gave the flick a a solid background and helped move it along. As it proceeded, the film made me chuckle, laugh, belly laugh, then wish for a sequel.
