Agreeable and charming comedy with attractive roles but average results
ma-cortes6 September 2023
Amusing and enjoyable comedy concerning a typical family, a peculiar relationship betwen stressed grandfathers and selfish descendants, dealing with inter-generational conflicts and about the abuse that children subject to grandparents. Manuela (Gracia Olayo) and José (Tito Valverde) have practically raised their three grandchildren and although they adore them, now they cannot spend more time with them since they have planned a trip to Finland with their lifelong friends. The problem is that the children's parents (Ernesto Sevilla, Toni Acosta) have also had a 'work trip' (to Bali) , which forces the resigned grandparents to give up their plans again? Or not...

A family comedy that is a tribute to the long-suffering grandparents who care for us and a funny warning about what can happen if we abuse their patience. Dealing with two good grandparents -well played by Gracia Olaya and Tito Valverde- even though they are delighted with taking care of their grandchildren, they are a bit fed up with no longer having time to dedicate to themselves. The film tries to follow the style of recent French comedies, aiming at a light crazy comedy with a background typical of modern French cinema in which the actor Christian Clavier appears as the usual protagonist playing a grumbling father, these films have been able to entertain and achieve certain commercial impact, not only in France but also in other countries, such as 'My dearest children', 'Qu'est-ce qu'on a encore fait au bon Dieu?' , 'On ne choisit pas sa famille', 'And this... whose is it?' and 'Ibiza'. Furthermore, here we see an attempt to reproduce the Santiago Segura formula of his family films, such as: ¨Padre no hay más que uno¨, ¨Padre no hay más que uno 2: La llegada de la suegra¨ and ¨Padre no hay más que uno 3¨ (2022) , and adding : ¨¡A todo tren! Destino Asturias¨ and ¨A Todo Tren 2: Sí, les ha pasado otra vez (2022)¨.¡Vaya vacaciones! (2023) ends up leading to a series of moments that can provoke a smile, but not a laugh. Those in charge of giving life to the enslaved grandparents are Tito Valverde and Gracia Olaya, while the cheeky parents are played by Toni Acosta and Ernesto Sevilla, all of them giving sympathetic interpretations. Along with this likeable and phenomenal quartet of actors, show up the children played by Daniela Rubio, Nicolás Costi and Marta de Toro and special appearance from the great Ramón Barea sharing the screen in a small and hilarious role that is difficult to forget.

The motion picture was mediocrely and professionaly directed by Vicente Garcia León , though it has some flaws and gaps. Vicente is a good writer and director who has made a few films , such as : "Selfie" , a segment of "Hay Motivo" , "Mas pena que gloria", and directing some TV series as "Hispania la leyenda", "Familia", " vota por Juan" and "Derecho a soñar". Rating 5.5/10. Only for enthusiasts of recent Spanish comedies.
