Ferrari Ki Sawaari Vibes, wonderful message
pawanpunjabithewriter25 February 2023
Watching Selfiee on Feb 25, I felt similar vibes I did on June 20, 2012, watching the third movie at the theatre on the same day after Emraan Hashmi's Shanghai and Akshay Kumar's Rowdy Rathore.

Like Ferrari ki Sawaari, the footfalls were weak. However, at times it felt I was watching a newer version of Ferrari ki Sawaari.

Honestly, Selfiee has a lot to teach. It doesn't look like a giant story, the script has issues, but makes sure we get entertained frequently and learn something from it. A message, lot bigger than the advertisement of Akshay Kumar about Lal Bahadur Shastri marg.

Eemran Hashmi was okay, no complaints. Akshay could have done better with the aura and charm he has created in the last few decades. As for Akshay, he did pick a wonderful film to, especially, send out a message to the youngsters about driving. How a moment of unawareness can cost lives. Also, We must drive safely.

Watching the movie, I remember the quote : Better be Mr. Late, than Late Mr...

If you're late, you're already late. Saving 2 to 4 minutes of your time to arrive at a location even though you're already late won't make any difference, however, it might, in case, for someone else.

AVG Film
nitsvirusboyz24 February 2023
Selfiee is just another mediocre remake of a good South Indian film. The screenplay is engaging in bits & pieces and it has a few dull moments too. Director Raj Mehta reunites with Akshay Kumar after Good Newwz (2019), he handled the humour and drama of the film skillfully.

Akshay Kumar effortlessly played his part as Superstar Vijay Kumar. It was great to watch Emraan Hashmi on the big screen again, last we saw him in Mumbai Saga and Chehre in 2021. He has delivered an impressive performance. Meghna Malik's comic timing is spot on and she got some funny dialogues in the film. Abhimanyu Singh never disappoints and he too was a comic relief and got some hilarious one-liners. The leading ladies Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha were once again neglected by the writers due to which they underplayed their part. Other supporting actors were just fine in their roles.

Some scenes were written well in the second half which makes it more arresting, the chaos at the RTO office, the face-off between two leading actors, and the license test. There was no song in the movie that can be a chartbuster. The crisp editing and some more gripping scenes could have made the film more impactful. The fate of the film will depend only on word of mouth.

Great job by Emraan Hashmi
alfihardev23 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know it was a remake of a South Indian movie anyways it was a good movie... Actor Emraan Hashmi has done great piece of job...very commendable.

It keeps viewer interested with ups and downs of fight between star vs fan, Akshay Kumar has done decent role too along with few side actors... Overall it was a very entertaining movie a good 1 time watch i would say.

The Chemistry of Emraan Hashmi and her wife in the movie didn't work well, nor did the item number at the end of the movie... The ending could have been more sensible... It felt like just like how Akshay Kumar was in rush to catch flight and Emraan hashmi - train... The director also was in a hurry to finish the movie.

Fast pace, nice screenplay, acted nicely
bhupidafriend21 April 2023
I have not watched the original first of all.

But treating it as a fresh movie, it delivers quite well. Story, screenplay is good with nice pace of movie.

Akhsay and Emran both are impressive in their roles. Role of Emran was more expressive kind of and role Akshay Sir was not that much expressive and he is doing so well since ages. His walk, eyes, body language says all about what he is feeling like in the scene Background is also fine. Abhimanyu Singh was a surprise, I was not aware that he is also there. That too in a comic role. But I like his expression and comic timing. Vimla tiwari played by Meghana Malik is also brings smile when comes.

Bollywood on remake spree
dxviper24 February 2023
Second movie by far after Shezada, appearing as remake of the original Driving Licence by Prithviraj Sukumaran who happens to be one of the producers of the remake Selfiee. Bollywood needs to restructure themselves instead of having remakes and playing it safe. One who has tried to impress in the movie is none other than Emraan Hashami, talented and poised actor who has immense capabilities if given more offers. Casting is fabulous. The only problem in the entire movie is that it's a remake. Why watch Selfiee, watch it for Emraan otherwise just a remake in the season of remakes. Original always the best any given day.

its all a misunderstanding
cdcrb25 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Big movie star needs to renew driver's license so he can complete movie shoot so producer doesn't lose shirt. Complications ensue. Movie star misreads situation and blames driving license officer. Officer vows revenge in mistaken idea movie star responsible for attack on his family. And on it goes. One mistaken episode followed by another. I thought it was a comedy, but it's more like a dramedy/soap opera. And not very good. There is a subplot, which doesn't really add much except for heart tugging scene near the end. It gets tiresome after a while and never really builds up ahead of steam. It just slogs along. Kumar/hashmi make a great team, with hashmi very good indeed keeping up with the big star. Who looks great, btw.

MEDIACORE MOVIE WITH NOTHING NEW
rajatraut-0261928 February 2023
Acting - 5/10 imraan Hashmi acting is only positive while Akshay Kumar feels lost

Directions -5/10 concept of movie is good but ending makes it WORST

Songs - not too good not too bad

Action - not an action movie so don't expect it

Overall -4/10 Jokes and comedy is ok I guess , it's nice concept to hear but on screen it fail to deliver MEDIACORE acting, no unexpected twist and turn comman man can guess what happens next easily.

I'm big fan of Akshay Kumar but this one is not what I expect.

You can watch this type of movie only if you have enough time otherwise take a nap. Nap is better than this .

SELFIEE:-akshay and emraan give a fruitful competetion to each other.
puranjanbasak22 April 2023
Selfiee is an action comedy drama thriller directed by raj mehta. It is adapted from the malayalam film 'driving licence.' Emraan hashmi and akshay kumar make up for an interesting tussle. Both capable actors, fight for their ego and in the way give some hearttouching and good moments. Naturally, the pitch of the film is commercial, so they amp up their performances to a watchable limit, which is not a criticism obviously. Nushrratt bharuccha clearly is an overperformer. One can argue that she had a nothing role but atleast you can help with your dialogue delivery. Diana penty clearly lacks acting practice. She is not the same cheerful girl from 'cocktail.' Abhimanyu singh, unsurprisingly brings a much needed laughter into the narrative.

The writing has evident flaws. The first half was going well and good. But the writers felt the need to paint the characters as black and white and not treat them as grey. Firstly, vijay kumar is made a villain and them om prakash agarwal. The emotional moments are heartfelt, but the characters of om's son gappu, his wife are made to look so cheesy and oppurtunistic in the process.

The songs apart from the evergreen 'main khiladi tu anari' and 'kudiye ni teri vibe' don't pack a punch. The background score is good.

The climax for me is underwhelming. Everyone including the corny minister and suraj get away with what they have done and nobody penalizes them. Is this a sooraj barjatya film or what??

The film brings in some worthy humour and meta references. An actress while shooting, farts which makes up for a hilarious sequence. Meghna malik in a scene does a wonderful job. Akshay kumar, being a producer's actor is reminded throughout the film and the amount of work that he chooses to do is also made a meta joke.

Not a perfect film by any means, but definitely good and worthy of a watch. I rate it 7.5 out of 10.

Good for one time watch
sukanyasadhu4476 March 2023
The storyline is not too complicated. Mostly drama with little bits of comedy here and there. It's about how a small misunderstanding can fuel a bigger drama and also about a fan's affection towards a celebrity. The movie is family friendly as well. It has a predictable happy ending. Akshay Kumar was looking really great at this age and has a very strong screen presence. Emran's acting was good as well. Good cinematography, camera action. Diana's character was small but good. At the end the song felt a little extra as most of the people were leaving the hall. Overall it was a decent watch. Had a good time. Overall 7/10.

Akshay Kumar & Raj Mehta Miss The Good News This Time
SAMTHEBESTEST26 February 2023
Selfiee (2023) : Movie Review -

Akshay Kumar and Raj Mehta team up for the second time after a super hit "Good Newwz" for "Selfiee", but it seems that the news is not good this time. Lal Jr's Malayalam flick "Driving Licence" (2019) is not a sensation enough to get a remake, but sadly, our Hindi filmmakers had different thoughts. Unfortunately, I had to write this thing the very next week after "Shehzada" turned into a disaster-another South remake of a mediocre film. The choices went wrong, I guess. Driving Licence earned what, 20 crores maybe? That's usually what a decent opening day collects for the Akshay Kumar movie. Doesn't it sound horrible now? I am afraid they might need Abhimanyu Singh's character to do some black magic to save this one.

Selfiee sees Akshay Kumar in the role of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Emraan Hashmi in a reprisal of Suraj Venjaramoodu. The first step goes wrong here because you just cannot have Emraan replace Suraj Venjaramoodu. At least, look at the age difference. Anyways, for those who haven't seen the original Malayalam flick, Selfiee is about a superstar and a fan who are pitted against each other over a childish misunderstanding. Superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) is in Bhopal for the shoot of his film, and there lives one of his biggest fans ever, Om Prakash Aggarwal (Emraan Hashmi). So, as destiny has it, Vijay Kumar needs a driving licence, which Om Prakash can provide easily, but there is a common kick to it. He wants a selfie with his superstar, his God. Somehow, things go out of hand after a small misunderstanding that pits these two against each other. The battle of fan vs. Superstar flashes everywhere in the media, and now it's not a public battle but a fight of their egos. Who will have the final laugh?

If you have seen the original Malayalam flick, then there is nothing for you in Selfiee (except for the surrogacy thing). Rather, it gets even duller because you are seeing all those things for the second time and because Driving Licence hardly has any repeat value. But for the freshers, it might be an interesting affair. However, there are flaws in that too. The screenplay is at fault for being too slow after several intervals. The mistakes that overlapped in DL haven't been rectified here. Who knows all those questions man? And why would someone turn it into a game of KBC? Why the hell do all those people wait with bated breath for the answers as if they never had a driving licence for themselves? That night flight for New York is suddenly rescheduled to the afternoon? Why don't our writers rectify mistakes made by South films? Why do we just have to copy and paste things despite knowing that some things lack logic there? Just because it worked there doesn't mean it will be fine here. Driving Licence was not a flawless film, but Selfiee is even more problematic with forceful jokes, cheap humor, and repetitive gags. The comedy works in some parts, but like I said, it's a long film, so you are entitled to get bored after a while.

Talking about performances, Akshay Kumar playing himself, a superstar on screen, is a treat to watch, but I am not sure if any superstar really has that kind of humour in real life. It's a cinematic liberty, as they call it, but sadly, we don't have any specific category to review performances according to that. Yes, you will enjoy Akshay Kumar's comedy, but he is quite dull in the emotional scenes. It's contrary to Emraan's case. He is strong in emotional scenes but lacks comic timing. Reprising Suraj Sir is a tough job; I believe even Emraan knows it. Nushrratt Bharuccha is cute as a chatterbox wife, but it's not a performance oriented role like she had in Chorri and Janhit Mein Jaari. The most hilarious person in the film is Abhimanyu Singh. I mean, what did he eat before filming his scenes? Diana Penty, Mahesh Thakur, and Meghna Malik haven't got much to do. The hottest figure in Selfiee has to be Mrunal Thakur. How sexy she looks! Someone please cast her as the lead in such a glamorous avatar.

Selfiee has Main Khiladi 2.0 as the only saving grace, while other songs are barely okay. Kudiyee Ni Teri Vibe was designed as a peppy song that celebrates the stardom of Vijay Kumar, but there is hardly anything foot-tapping about it. It's too slow for the vibes of a celebration song (something like Dhinka Chika or Lungi Dance). The editing is below par, as the drama doesn't hold you throughout the narrative. You get some hilarious dialogues after every 15 minutes, and you'll remember them as the best things you have seen in the film. But was that cheap and kiddish humour really needed? The fart thing, the Masoode Wali Smile, A big fan segment, and Arnab Goswami's replication-all these things aren't organic ways of doing comedy. Who else but Raj Mehta knew it better? The man who gave us probably the most organic comedy in recent times (Good Newwz), has to go down to this level to make people laugh? It's not a downfall then! It's degrading your own standard. Jug Jugg Jeeyo and now Selfiee: Raj Mehta has forgotten the great talent he owns.

What happened to that Raj Mehta of Good Newwz? Aren't we going to get more good news from him? Okay, so just between you and me, the moment I came out of watching Good Newwz, I called it a super hit. The moment I walked out of Jug Jugg Jeeyo, I bet that it wouldn't become a Hit. Both times, I was proven right. Now, the moment I left the audi from Selfiee screening, I told my friend that it would be worse than JJJ. Let's see if I am proven right in a few days. Dear Raj Mehta, please go back to the GN zone. Our industry doesn't have any directors who make healthy organic comedies after Rajkumar Hirani. You have Akshay Kumar, the king of the comedy genre, so we expect something really high-class. Not something mediocre like Selfiee, and definitely not a remake. I hope my voice reaches you and you and Akshay Kumar both come back stronger. For now, Selfiee remains an average stuff. In sarcastic language, aka Kataksh, "This Selfiee is Blur".

Good family entertainer
gobindpreetsinghgupta26 February 2023
Surprisingly the film meets your expectations. After a long time, we have a good family entertainer teaching us a few life lessons keeping the entertainment quotient intact.

All actors have done a fantastic job as per their given roles. Special mention to Abhimanyu Singh, Meghna Malik and the actor playing the producers' role. Akshay Kumar plays himself as per the requirement and shines brilliantly in the emotional moments as well. Emran Hashmi has given a subtle performance as a father wanting to be a hero in front of his son.

BGM is decent as well as the songs. Direction has been done in a very efficient way. Screenplay keeps you hooked almost throughout the runtime.

Go and enjoy with your family.

Common man VS Superstar
sameerkhan66615 March 2023
A superb combination of Emraan Hashmi and Akshsy Kumar, a superb tug of war between a fan and a star, a superb movie about a common man and an actor. Nushrratt Bharuccha along with Adah Sharma made me engage in this movie with their performance. Adah Sharma should have given a big role in this film, her scenes were too short and also her dialogues. But good point to add, we have Kusha Kapila as Tara in the movie. Ever thought? No I didn't. I am so happy for her to get a role in a Bollywood movie. Kusha Kapila in Selfiee movie and Dolly Singh in Double XL movie-these girls have really won over a thousand fans over Internet, must admit, to get their steps in a big insertion in Bollywood industry. Sad thing about this movie is that it was way too much predictable because of the curtain-down trailer that made it easy to dot down the film.

Celebration of toxic fan culture
amit9352401 March 2023
Bollywood is the highest self obsessed industry of whole world and this film again proves this. Bollywood not going to come out from their la la led.

Bollywood celebs thinks themselves as a Demi gods and some fairies. This film itself is hypocrite with its story line in which there is huge intensity of fan culture and the same Bollywood celebs are victims of their fans. Non sense scenes of cracking walnuts by bombs makes it unbearable. Bollywood is exposing themselves day by day. Bollywood celebs are one of the most in human society which makes money by toxicating their own viewers. Don't waste time and money on this pathetic drama.

Average light hearted movie, unique storyline but direction doesn't hold that intensity. A cat n mouse fight between a celebrity n his fan. Bored of seeing Akshay Kumar in a new movie every 3rd month. Emran Hashmi emotes good expressions.

My ratings 6/10!

Worst Ending
loverfellow24 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Movie premise was very good with some interesting situations but the whole ending experience was worst I have ever seen in a movie. They glorified the stars and insulted common man in this movie. Sub inspector promised his son that he will win but the whole ending sequence was just an insult after insult to this law officer. Message of the movie is that a superstar is like a god with all the morality and values and deserves to be treated as such while a common man is corrupt, opportunist and must be insulted and beaten brutally.

What a shame for Akshay Kumar to self glorify during his falling fame.

Driving license
py-0703524 February 2023
For movie name ,better Driving license to Selfiee. I would like share a comment.. It was good scene during public protest and akshay came for help as humanity. But in this scene taught ( Years will change but Human will never change by their warm need a just a shot of pic/ Video). They will do as per day to day, week to week and year to year. That's why it's a kalyug ....I hope the public will realized as a social animal. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." - Mahatma Gandhi before blaming, to know the matter first then you take a decision.

Bad Remake.
sahilkhan75750524 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The typical 'tweaking' in copy-pasting the already tried & tested script making certain things worse than the original Only if you haven't seen the original (Driving License) you'll have a bright chance to enjoy some scenes Why this can't be a story of a story who somehow forgets to renew his passport & fails with extreme difficulty in renewing it owing to his dual citizenship (India & Canada, maybe?)?

All said and done, Selfiee could be true to the original but that's also somewhere its weak point. The film shines when it doesn't 'try' to copy and that's why this needed a cosmetical makeover from not only outside but inside as well.

Two stars!

*Spoiler Free* Must Watch for Akshay and Emraans Chemistry!!!
Kdog12324 February 2023
Just watched Selfiee. If you really want to go to the theaters and have a fun time. Then this movie is definitely worth it. Raj Mehta truly creates movies with emotion. Akshay Kumar shines as Vijay Kumar. As always, he put up a great performance. He had competition with Emraan Hashmi. Playing the middle class average man, Emraan truly makes his character his own by giving off such a great performance as the superfan. The first half was well done and the second half does have a bit of flaws in it. But it finishes strong leaving you with a fun family entertainer. The female leads didn't have much to do here. They didn't get much screentime which was dissapointing. Overall you can't tell who did better, Akshay or Emraan as they both hit it out of the park by perfecting their avatars in this film. The on screen chemistry of the two was felt and you really just get lost into the film with its compelling and unique story. Go to theaters and support this film!!!

A Good Watch..
shaikhirshad-4122324 February 2023
Emaraan Hashmi stole the show by giving brilliant performance in the entire film. Well I've not watched the original film and I don't know whether this movie is similar to it or not. But trust me this movie will not bore you it keeps you engaged till the end and movie will end in an emotional way. Akshay & Emaraan both have acted superbly but for me Emaraan has done phenomenol job. Talking about the story you'll definitely will remember Srk Fan if you've watched that film because at some point there is one scene which is exactly similar from Fan movie and it looks good to watch. Direction is good not that excellent but it does its job with some great humor in the film. Film will not bore you and keep you entertained. So if you haven't watched the original watch this film you will definitely enjoy the movie. (6/10)...

What a headless subject to watch

If you really want to enjoy a fanatic film then I think FAN is the movie.. this movie is simple remake of South Indian movie driving license

The main story is covered in trailer itself while watching you can connect that what was shown in trailer is the only thing rest other scenes were made in order to complete the movie..headless scenes like live licence test and scoreboards like really how can the makers thought to show such baseless things with such big stars in this OTT culture

Imraan maintain his charm and attitude rest Akshay was below normal

Sorry for negative review.

editsbysamannita24 February 2023
Everywhere you will find khiladi Akshay Kumar.. whether in poster, or as superstar. You will find satisfactory and befitting reply from big fan Emraan Hashmi who will do everything for his Superstar. And his only wish to be with his Superstar.

Where you will find a great hearted Akshay Kumar as Superstar Vijay Kumar who will engrip you with funny scenes and also an emotional ending. The film fits his personality so much as we know he's generous too in real life. Whether donating 25 Cr during pandemic, to 5 Cr during Pulwama attack. Thanks to Producer Karan Johar for making this SPLENDID film.

A misunderstanding out of control
bostonct25 February 2023
This is one of the few Indian non-action hero movies I've seen and like the rest of them I've seen, pretty good! I did not see Driver's License so I can't make any comparison but looking at the merits of this film by itself, it's a pretty good storyline on how people will feel and react under certain circumstances. This is what made this film very interesting. You just hung on to see what would happen next! The best parts were the one-on-one engagements as it showed a good deal of sincerity and some acting depth. It's not 100% across the board as there is still some excessive drama but the main characters and most of the supporting cast do a credible job. Unlike Bollywood's action film, there are really no gaping holes in the storyline. Personally, I can do without the song-and-dance but I guess that's Bollywood. Anyway, see this movie if you like acting.

This movie deserved to flop
puneetgulati-4965113 March 2023
In India if you lose your license, all you have to do is submit an online fir of lost license, go to rto and submit docs with a photo. YOU DONT HAVE TO GIVE TESTS AND START FROM THE L.

Also, if the actor's address is not Bhopal how can he even apply for one in Bhopal. I am not 100% sure but it's the address that decides the relevant RTO.

Nevertheless, The whole basis of the movie is stupid. This movie could have ended in five minutes. They just unnecessarily created situations where the misunderstanding could not be resolved. I am not expecting a movie to be 100% realistic but when you are making a semi serious film then show some seriousness in writing the story also.

Half of the movie is just slow motion entry and exit of the two heroes.

It was promoted to be a funny movie which it is clearly not. Talking about the fan culture, it only perpetuates it and does not show a different perspective. Fan was a better movie.

The whole side story about the faiked actor is so cringe and stupid.

Bollywood needs to stop using the crazy news anchors as a comedy scene. It has been done to death. It's not even funny anymore.

Akshay is being akshay as usual...nothing different Emran hashmi is good and believable.

A one time watch but no one's interested!!
nadkarnisumeet26 February 2023
Selfiee review :

After Shehzada last week, yet another South remake hits the cinemas this weekend. Selfiee is a Bollywood remake of the Malayalam Driving License (2019) which at premise level, is strikingly similar to Shahrukh Khan's 'jabraa' flop film called Fan (2016). Looking at less than ten audience turnout at Saturday morning show at Citylight Cinema, Matunga, Selfiee will also go that way for sure.

The plot is too simplistic to be true - A superstar lands up in Bhopal for a shoot and needs a driving license urgently. His biggest fan is the RTO inspector (Emraan Hashmi) but unfortunately, a misunderstanding leads to both the star and fan at loggerheads with each other.

Akshay Kumar plays himself (named Vijay Kumar here) to perfection. The nod to his past successes (Dont angry me, Main Khiladi, etc) as well as professional decisions (producer's actor, four films plus two OTT movies per year) will surely keep his fans happy. Emraan Hashmi is outstanding as the fan turned foe. Watch him in the police station scene when he meets Akshay for the first time. He literally speaks through his eyes!! Of the supporting cast, Abhimanyu Singh is impressive as Akshay's rival relegated to B grade cinema and Meghna Malik generates the right humour with her star struck corporator act.

Overall, Selfiee is a one time watch. Unfortunately, the audience seem to have made up their minds to wait for its OTT release!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Not expected
gauravlovesgod3 March 2023
It's just a one time watch movie... Nothing that much unpredictable, you know the story, casts like Akshay and Emraan are doing justice but the story is not upto the mark. You may feel it that the story is being elongated after the interval.

The story keeps on revolving on a license part and that issue gets more and more.

We were expecting something better in this movie but it didn't work with it.

Akshay is a great talented actor but now a days we are not getting that old Akshay back with the right script.

Even Emran has come back after a long time but the story has not done justice with his talent.
