Netflix has taken peak TV to a new peak.
In a data point sure to fuel more quantity-versus-quality debate, Netflix broke its own record for number of original episodes released in a single quarter — with 1,026 in the third quarter of 2022, according to a tally by Wall Street firm MoffettNathanson.
That’s more than five times any other streaming rival: Amazon Prime Video and Hulu released 223 and 194 episodes, respectively, and Disney+ debuted 140 original episodes, per the report. HBO Max, now owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, released 114 episodes in the third quarter — significantly fewer episodes than usual and comprising the lightest slate for the service since Q2 2020, the second quarter after launch. Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” topped Netflix’s English TV Top 10 list for the third week in a row, with 205.33 million hours viewed for the week of Oct. 3-9. Ryan Murphy’s Jeffrey Dahmer series “Monster” overpowered the Netflix top 10 rankings this week, taking the No. 1 spot with 196.2 million hours viewed following its Sept. 21 premiere. During the Sept. 19-Sept. 25 viewing window, the 10-episode limited series knocked “Cobra Kai” Season 5 off of its pedestal and down to the third spot.
Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga” stayed at the No. 2 spot for the second week. The second installment of the fantasy series, which premiered on the streamer on Sept. 16, earned nearly 61 million hours viewed in its first full week of availability. The show’s first season also appeared at No. 5, more than a year after its Jan. 2021 release. It received 20.3 million hours watched during the measured window.
The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” dropped in viewership during its second full week on Netflix. The show raked in 38.1 million hours viewed –– a drastic fall from the previous week’s 95.6 million hours viewed.

During the Sept. 12-Sept. 18 viewing window, the show scored 95.6 million hours viewed –– which is still a high note despite its drop from the prior week’s astounding 107 million hours watched.
Sliding in at No. 2 is Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga.” The new installment debuted on the streaming service on Sept. 16, raking in 49 million hours watched in its first three days of availability. Season 1 of “The Crown” continued its reign on the list, moving up to the third spot with 40.8 million hours viewed, while Season 2 of the series entered the list with 16.7 million hours viewed.
