The Lock Down saga
madhupill200215 January 2022
Well made. All the five stories are nicely portrayed by all actors. The one with Joju and Nadia is the best. So is one story with Lakshmi and the one with police.

These type of stories we expect after watching too much OTT. There is more talent in India than anywhere else . This one is on that attempt. Our wishes and congrats for such future endorsements for the team. The 1st series too became a household name in Indian OTT.

Keep it up the team.

Joju George & Nadhiya Moidu's segment stands tall in this largely middling anthology
nidhunmoviebuff18 January 2022
To have the audience fully invest in the characters of a 30-minute segment within an anthology film is a monumental task and it take a mix of pointed writing, impactful performances, and chemistry between the characters to achieve the same. PPKV is a mixed bag with only 2 of the 5 films leaving any lasting impact on me.

A spiritual sequel to 2020's lockdown anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai (Bright New Dawn), the stories take a more pragmatic and more serious tone here, with the same reflected in the title also, with the word Vidiyaadha changing the meaning to the more morose "Will this New Dawn Rise Again?".

We start off with the breezy "Mugakavasa Mutham" starring the immensely likeable Gouri G Kishan and the charming Tejeenathan Anunasalam as a pair of cops tasked with overseeing a key traffic checkpoint during the city-wide lockdowns as part of the second wave of Corona. Love blossoms amongst them despite the pressures of the job and despite the story's cheesiness and lack of nuance, the sparkling chemistry between the lead pair ensures that by the climax, you are left with a smile on your face.

The second segment, "Loners", falters despite having two immense talents in Lijomol Jose and Arjun Das, due to a preachy narrative and a forced and inorganic romance. They are introduced as a pair of strangers who bond over a chance online encounter and grow to develop feelings for each other over their joint sense of loss and loneliness brought about by the lockdown. The story moves forward primarily through video calls and their sharing of experiences from their past comes across more like narrations than actual conversations. A well-intentioned attempt, but one that does not create the desired impact.

Now to the best segment of the series. "Mouname Paarvayai" is a commendable case study in how an astute filmmaker like director Madhumitha can portray an intense love story with little to no dialogue. Joju George and Nadhiya Moidu deliver towering performances as a couple who have drifted apart despite living under the same roof and how they find love again after one of them contracts Covid during the lockdown. The infusion of music and the culinary arts as protagonists to further add sheen to their sparkling chemistry is pure joy to watch. Two thumbs up for this highly enjoyable effort!

Unfortunately, Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadha goes all downhill from here. Surya Krishna's "The Mask" again has its heart in the right place, telling the story of a happy-go-lucky youngster mulling over how he will come out to his parents about his homosexuality. While Sananth puts in an earnest performance, the pretentious scenes where he is seen breaking the fourth wall and the tacky writing of the secondary character played by Dhilip Subbarayan, make this a painful watch.

Finally, we come to Aishwarya Lekshmi-starrer "Nizhal Tharum Idham". What should have been a telling story of "letting go" and coming to terms with bereavement and lost memories becomes a dull, boring drag due to poor narrative choices. An all too visual depiction of the lead characters 'inner demons' and the use of animals as analogies (can someone tell filmmakers this is not cool anymore please?) makes this another tiresome experience to sit through.

All in all, "Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadha" is a middling experience much like its predecessor but the two standout stories here are superior to the Sudha Kongara and Gautham Menon-directed segments in the original anthology that I found enjoyable. I would urge everyone to try all these five stories as the experience might vary basis your mood, experiences, tastes and preferences.

Recommended-"Mugakavasa Mutham" (Segment 1) and "Mouname Paarvayai" (Segment 3).

Feel good one and its mixed bag
m-ramanan23 January 2022
RATED 7/10 Language: Tamil Source: Amazon Prime

The first episode is over sweet and looks like lost the main track... The second, third and four are superb and liked every bit of the episodes.... It as fine acting and superb dialogs and its so feel good also.... Some dialogs looks preachy but adjustable Joju and Nadia episode is the best one.

The last episode is so heavy and dead slow...fine acting couldnt save the flow of this one... As a conclusion, ok start ends with dozed one... but the middle ones are so great.

A light for your life!
vihangadulaj9711 April 2022
I loved all of five stories, you can watch them without too much OTT. There is more talent in India than anywhere else. To make the viewer fully invest in the characters of a 30-minute part within an anthology film is a mammoth task, and it requires a combination of sharp writing, powerful performances, and character chemistry, so we had it in here.

simply amaaaaazing!

PPKV, very shamefully, was a series we pushed aside as it appeared like cliché tales about romance and relationships.

The first installment wasn't too exciting so we automatically assumed there was nothing to look forward to in this sequel.

WRONG!!!

The narratives were so organic and believable, no goofy romance (well, except for the first story 'Mugakavasa Mutham' 😃 ).

The writers put an accent on the emotions of fear, uncertainty, aimlessness, and emptiness that invaded people during the lockdown.

Anyone watching Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa will identify with at least one narrative.

We applaud the work executed on all 5 stories, our special favorites were 'Mouname Paarvayaai' and 'Loners', they deserve a bowing ovation.

We literally became emotional looking at the frailty of life and relationships while watching these 2 segments.

Arjun Dasssss, that voice!!!!! 😍...It was so fulfilling to see him in a gentleman role, his performance really touched our hearts.

Feel Good Anthology in Covid Era
mandard8727 January 2022
Just as the 3rd wave is declining, we have been treated with beautiful anthologies by mazon Prime Video. First there was 'Unpaused: Naya Safar' and now 'Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa', a Tamil anthology based during the 2nd wave.

Listing below the stories on the based of my likeable order:

1. Mouname Paarvayaai: Very seldom you see a story which does not have any dialogues & yet it touches your heart. This story is based on a couple who do not talk to each other and how they rediscover love. Joju George and Nadhiya Moidu deliver fantastic performance & surely this story will make you fall in love with them. (4.5/5)

2. Nizhal Tharum Idham: Memories, things that we keep with us for life. Sometimes we regret them sometimes we cherish. A story of 'letting go' & accepting the facts is very well portrayed in this episode. (3.5/5)

3. Loners: 2 strangers but very lonely bond over an online video call & starts to develop feelings for each other. The beautiful story about their bond with loneliness and superb acting by Lijomol Jose and Arjun Das makes this episode lovely to watch (3/5)

4. Mugakavasa Mutham: A lovestory between 2 police officers and how they help a pair to elope in the lockdown forms the narrative of the episode. The climax will surely make you smile. (3/5)

5. The Mask: A happy go lucky guy wanting to come out in front of his parents about his sexualty is earnestly shown in the episode. However due to poor execution it falters and loses interest. The weakest of all (2/5)
