The 2025 BET Awards nominations were announced on Thursday, and Kendrick Lamar is "not like" the others.

The "Not Like Us" singer received a leading 10 bids, including Album of the Year for Gnx, Video of the Year, Viewer’s Choice Award, Best Collaboration, Video Director of the Year, and Best Male Hip Hop Artist.

Lamar's fellow Album of the Year nominees are Chris Brown for 11:11 (Deluxe), Doechii for Alligator Bites Never Heal, Beyoncé for Cowboy Carter, GloRilla for Glorious, the Weeknd for Hurry Up Tomorrow, Drake and PartyNextDoor for Some Sexy Songs 4 U, and Future and Metro Boomin for We Don't Trust You.

Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla each received six nominations, followed by Metro Boomin with five, and both Sza and the Weeknd with four.

Carry-On star Danielle Deadwyler is fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world in the first official trailer for 40 Acres, a new thriller from Magnolia Pictures.

Magnolia Pictures has released the first official trailer for 40 Acres, a new post-apocalyptic thriller starring Deadwyler as Hailey, a mother who is forced to teach her children how to fight and kill in an unforgiving world. In addition to Deadwyler, 40 Acres also stars Michael Greyeyes (Firestarter), Kataem O’Connor (Time Cut), Milcania Diaz-Rojas (Share), and Leenah Robinson (Monkey Beach). R.T. Thorne, best known for directing episodes of Kung Fu and The Lake, is making his feature directorial debut with 40 Acres. Thorne also co-wrote the script alongside Glenn Taylor. The official synopsis for 40 Acres reads: "After a series of plagues and wars leaves society in ruins, the Freemans are surviving — even thriving — on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

Debut filmmaker R.T. Thorne is blasting onto the film scene with action-thriller “40 Acres” starring acclaimed actress Danielle Deadwyler.

Thorne directs the dystopian feature from a script he cowrote with Glenn Taylor. Lora Campbell also has a “Story by” credit on the project as well. “40 Acres” takes place in the near future after a plague kills all animals. Hot on the heels of the news that Blumhouse's Wolf Man is headed to Peacock later this month, another 2025 Blumhouse horror flick is arriving even sooner. The psychological horror The Woman in the Yard is set to hit digital platforms tomorrow, bringing the scares straight to your screen!

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, The Woman in the Yard will be available to rent or purchase on digital retailers such as Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Apple TV+, etc. The film is currently available for pre-order on these platforms for $24.99 (before taxes). Gotham Award winner Danielle Deadwyler (Till) is teaming with Alix Madigan and Michael Sherman to develop and produce The Street, a feature adaptation of the novel by Ann Petry, in which she’s set to star.

Also aboard the project is Gina Atwater (Westworld), who will write the script and serve as executive producer.

Reissued in 2022, Petry’s 1946 debut novel was famously the first book by a Black woman to sell over one million copies. This is the harrowing story of young Black woman Lutie Johnson (Deadwyler) and her spirited struggle to raise her son amid the violence, poverty, and racial dissonance of Harlem in the late 1940s.

New York-based visual artist Tschabalala Self was commissioned to create portraits of the powerhouse men in the Washington family—father Denzel and sons John David and Malcolm—behind the screen adaptation of The Piano Lesson. Malcolm directs and John David stars, while Denzel and daughter Katia co-produce. With an ensemble cast that includes mother Pauletta and another daughter, Olivia, the Washingtons have adapted August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same title. Malcolm also serves as a writer and is joined in this role by Wilson’s son Virgil, adding another set of family ties to the production.

Anora continues to pick up speed heading into the Oscars, scoring Critics Choice Awards and DGA wins and snagging a Best Feature win at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Anora also captured Best Director (Sean Baker) and Best Lead Performance (Mikey Madison) wins. A Real Pain and Didi each earned two awards during the February 22, 2025 Spirit Awards ceremony hosted by Aidy Bryant.

On the television side, Baby Reindeer dominated with three wins. The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards revealed its 2025 winners Sunday night (Feb. 23). The 15th annual ceremony was held at The Wiltern in L.A.’s Koreatown and honors the year’s best work in songs and scores for screen.

Emilia Pérez star Zoe Saldaña continued her march toward the Oscars stage on Sunday night with a win at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

At the event, Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress honors, besting a field that included Oscar nominees Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown) and Ariana Grande (Wicked). The other SAG Awards nominees for Best Supporting Actress were Jamie Lee Curtis (The Last Showgirl) and Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson).

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are taking place on Sunday in downtown Los Angeles. TheWrap will update the list of winners as they are announced.

“Wicked” went into the show leading all films with five nominations, followed by “A Complete Unknown” with four and “Anora” and “Emilia Perez” with two.

In the television categories, “Shōgun” led with five nominations, followed by “The Bear” with four and “The Diplomat” and “The Penguin” with three.

Over the 30-year history of the SAG Awards, individual winners in the film categories have gone on to win Academy Awards for acting 75% of the time. All four SAG winners have repeated at the Oscars 10 times, with eight of those times coming in the last 15 years.

The winning film in the SAG Awards’ ensemble-cast category has won the Oscar for Best Picture about half the time, including the last three years in a row and four times in the last five years.

The 56th NAACP Image Awards, which honor the year’s best in Black achievement and excellence, wrapped up Saturday night by naming Keke Palmer its Entertainer of the Year, the group’s marquee award.

Deon Cole emceed the ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Center, where honorary awards were given to Kamala Harris, who received the Chairman’s Award; BET Media Group, which received the Founders Award; and Dave Chappelle, who received the President’s Award and gave an impassioned speech, saying he was “invigorated” in receiving what he called the most important award he had ever received.

Palmer, the multihyphenate actor-podcaster-host who won an Image Award earlier this week for hosting Password, beat out a loaded group for the Entertainer of the Year honor, winning over Cynthia Erivo, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Hart and Shannon Sharpe.

Film Independent handed out its 2025 Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 22), in a Santa Monica ceremony that saw Anora claim three prizes for best feature, director Sean Baker, and lead performance Mikey Madison in the gender-neutral category.

Sean Wang’s Didi took two prizes for best first feature and first screenplay, whileGints Zilbalodis’s Latvian animation Flow won international film and No Other Land was named best documentary. A Real Pain also nabbed two awards for screenplay and supporting actor Kieran Culkin.

The 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards have wrapped! And now we know, as the full winners list for the Spirit Awards has been revealed, just how much momentum “Anora” has going into the Oscars: a lot. It already got the most Spirits nominations with six, and it ended up winning Best Feature, Best Director for Sean Baker, and Best Lead Performance for Mikey Madison.

Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Performance for “A Real Pain,” which also won Best Screenplay. “No Other Land” won Best Documentary, and the extraordinary animated film “Flow” won Best International feature.

“Baby Reindeer” collected the most prizes on the TV side with Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series going to Richard Gadd, Jessica Gunning won Best Breakthrough Performance in a New Scripted Series, and Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series went to Nava Rau. “Shogun” won Best New Scripted Series.

Kieran Culkin took home the win for best supporting performance at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.

Presented by Kathryn Hahn, Culkin won the honor for his work in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, marking his first Spirit Award ever. Culkin — who is starring in Glengarry Glen Ross, which opens March 10 on Broadway — was not present at the Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday, but Hahn accepted the award on his behalf.

His win at the 2025 Spirit Awards came a little over a month after he won the award for best supporting actor at the 2025 Golden Globes. Culkin, too, became a first-time Oscar nominee this year with a nod in the same category for his portrayal of Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain.

Before the NAACP Image Awards’ main, televised ceremony kicks off Saturday night, some of this year’s winners were announced in a non-televised Creative Honors event on Friday night.

Nickel Boys, a six-time nominee, took home two awards, with director RaMell Ross winning for best directing in a motion picture and Ross and co-writer Joslyn Barnes winning best writing in a motion picture for their Oscar-nominated adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s novel.
