Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan Box Office Is Headed For A Disastrous End(Photo Credit –YouTube)
A few months ago, when the trailer of Maidaan was released, everyone thought Ajay Devgn would continue with his winning pace at the box office, starting with successful films like Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Drishyam 2. However, the sports drama was a disastrous bet at the box office.
In his attempt to relive another hero, Ajay Devgn transformed himself into Syed Abdul Rahim, and the film was loved by a large number of people. Still, the love and the admiration stayed only in words and did not translate into numbers at the box office.
In 17 days, all Maidaan could do was collect almost 40 crore at the box office and not give any hope to escalate further and touch the 50 crore mark at the box office as well! However, it seems there are certain reasons...

Shaitaan’s Box Office Performance In Mumbai (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s Shaitaan emerged as the first clean Hit of Bollywood in 2024 and performed much better than anyone ever expected. Keep reading to know more!
The Vikas Bahl directorial is an official Hindi remake of the 2023 Gujarati film Vash. Apart from Ajay and Madhavan, the horror thriller also features Janki Bodiwala, Jyothika, and Anngad Raaj in key roles. The way this film has performed at the Indian box office highlights the importance of a well-cut trailer that helps in building the buzz in the pre-release phase. Thankfully, after a brilliant initial start, the film got good support from the audience word-of-mouth.

Ajay Devgn’s leading ladies: that Southern twist. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Is it due to the fact that his first-ever co-star was Madhoo, a South Indian but
Mumbai-based actress, in Phool Aur Kaante (they co-starred again in Diljale)? Whatever the reason, Ajay Devgn has a predilection for South Indian heroines! Let us also not forget Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, for whom Ajay, along with Salman Khan, was her breakthrough hero in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. They later also did Khakee and Raincoat together.
The past list also includes the North Indian actresses who started out down South —
Kajal Aggarwal (Singham), Ileana D’Cruz (Raid), who did 18 films down South before her Hindi debut, Tamannaah Bhatia (Himmatwala) and Rakul Preet Singh (De De Pyaar De). And of course we have had Rambha (Jung) and Asin(London Dreams, Bol Bachchan).

Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan Fails To Beat Drishyam 2 At The Box Office. (Photo Credit – IMDb/Youtube)
Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan has finished its first week run at the box office and collected 81.68 crore at the box office. While the horror film was expecting a single-digit opening of 8 – 9 crore, it registered a surprising two-digit opening, creating a positive environment for the film to perform at the box office.
Shaitaan started on a very strong and similar note to Ajay‘s previous successful film, Drishyam 2, and since the film performed along the same lines overseas as well, it was expected to trend in the same manner.
Drishyam 2 was released in the year 2022 and became a super hit. It collected 241 crore in its lifetime, and Shaitaan was expected to cross the 100 crore mark in week one. Here is the day-to-day tally of the horror flick with Ajay Devgn‘s previous superhit co-starring Tabu.

Shaitaan Box Office Review: Pre-Release Buzz & Impression
Ever since the announcement was made, Shaitaan managed to keep momentum in its favor. It was made clear that the film is an official remake of 2023’s Gujarati film, Vash. We have seen that being a remake is a big minus in the post-pandemic era, but it still works if done smartly. While films like Jersey, Vikram Vedha, and Bholaa failed, Drishyam 2 was a huge success due to the unavailability of the Hindi dubbed version of the original film. This same thing seems to be working for Ajay’s latest release.
For a film that isn’t a completely front-loaded affair, the trailer plays a very crucial role in attracting the attention of the neutral audience,...

Ajay has witnessed a not-so-good run at the Indian box office in the post-covid period. While he has given a blockbuster hit in the form of Drishyam 2, all his other films (featuring him in important/ lead roles) have failed in their theatrical run. Even his previous film, Bholaa, was a box office failure. Now, the actor has a chance to bounce back, and if things fall in place perfectly, he’s set to achieve a milestone.

Shaitaan Box Office Day 1 Advance Booking Update (3 More Days To Go) (Photo Credit – IMDb)
After Bholaa, Ajay Devgn is looking for a bounce back, so all eyes are set on how his Shaitaan turns out to be. Also featuring R Madhavan in the main role, the film has managed to lift up its pre-release buzz due to a well-cut trailer. But has it managed to translate that buzz in the advance booking at the Indian box office? Let’s find out what the day 1 report suggests!
Before coming with Bholaa, Ajay tasted a blockbuster success with Drishyam 2, which performed much beyond expectations. Just like Bholaa, even the Drishyam sequel was a remake, but the main advantage in the latter’s case was that the Hindi dubbed version was never done. So, a majority of the audience in the Hindi belt didn’t see the Malayalam sequel led by Mohanlal.

“Drishyam,” a hit Indian thriller in which an ordinary man confounds the police in order to protect his family, is to be re-made in English. Production is by India’s Panorama Studios with U.S. companies Gulfstream Pictures and Joat Films.
The film was first made in 2013 in the Malayalam language, before being remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles in 2015. It earned itself a Hindi sequel “Drishyam 2,” in 2022, that grossed some $43 million worldwide.
Panorama, which produced the Hindi version for Viacom18 Motion Pictures, has acquired the international remake rights to “Drishyam 1 & 2” from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas, and is settling up multiple international versions. A Korean remake with Anthology Studios was announced in May last year, while Panorama says that a development deal for a Spanish language retread is also close to being finalized.

However, in recent times, the industry has also ventured into the genre of action thrillers, with films like Lucifer, Ayyappanum Koshiyum, and Drishyam 2 making a mark at the box office. Now, two more films are set to join this list, with their trailers creating a buzz among the audience. These are Garudan and Bandra, starring Suresh Gopi and Dileep respectively.
Garudan, directed by debutant Arun Varma and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, features Suresh Gopi as a cop who is investigating a rape case that leads him to a confrontation with Biju Menon’s character, a former convict who has a personal vendetta against him. The trailer of the film, which was released on October 171, showcases the intense cat-and-mouse game between the two actors, with some high-octane action sequences and dialogues.
