It’s only fitting that on the day the score drops for Challengers, composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Thom Yorke’s first score since Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria would arrive. The Radiohead and Smile frontman’s latest work is the 12-track score for Daniele Luchetti’s Confidenza aka Trust, the Italian director adaptation of Domenico Starnone’s novel.
A collaboration with producer Sam Petts-Davies, the London Contemporary Orchestra, and a jazz ensemble featuring Tom Skinner and Robert Stillman, as reported by Stereogum, it’s not just an instrumental production as Yorke provides vocals throughout.
The film, which premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year and opens in Italy this week, stars Elio Germano as a teacher in his forties named Pietro Vella who works in a rundown Roman high school. He strongly believes he can help students strive for a better future and Teresa, and bright and rebellious student,...

What would hurt worse, Wolverine’s claws slicing right into your groin or Deadpool’s semiautomatic handguns firing into your flanks while he cradles you spread eagle on icy terrain? The trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t answer that question — these two seem to survive on pithy sass and rejoinders — but the movie might reveal the stronger superhero when it comes out on July 26.
The trailer opens with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in full costume, approaching Wolverine (Hugh Jackman dressed like “Hugh Jackman” — or rather Wolvie’s off-duty...

Writer/director Parker Finn’s sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile is aiming for an October 18th theatrical release date – and with that date just six months away, Paramount decided to start building the hype for Smile 2 during their panel at CinemaCon today. They showed a teaser trailer to the people who attended their panel, and in the audience was JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek!
Lance describes what he saw in this teaser: “Story appears to be set around a Taylor Swift type of mega-star artist (Naomi Scott) who gets sucked into the curse of Smile. The sequel has a bigger budget and slicker look, seems to be bigger in scope. There was a very cool scene where a crowd of people under control of the entity are in a tight backstage hallway chasing Naomi Scott, all of the smiling in that creepy way. Plot-wise, it doesn’t give much away.

Paramount’s hit horror movie Smile gets a sequel this Halloween with returning director Parker Finn’s Smile 2, and the first plot details have made their way out of Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation this afternoon. The first footage from the upcoming sequel was shown off at the event, but unfortunately it is not (yet) being released for the rest of us online.
The good news? A whole bunch of websites including Slash Film were on hand at CinemaCon this week, so we’ve at least got a Smile 2 footage description to work with for now.
Slash Film recaps what they saw, “The teaser footage for Smile 2 that played at CinemaCon 2024 was focused on the new character played by Naomi Scott — a music celeb whose glamorous world is about to get dragged to hell. Filmmaker Parker Finn has experienced a career start that most can only dream of. After his 11-minute horror short "Laura Hasn't Slept" screened at SXSW 2020, Finn signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to adapt it into a feature-length film, "Smile," which stars Sosie Bacon as a psychotherapist who becomes targeted by a sadistic demon. After witnessing a patient's suicide, she's plagued by hallucinations of people she knows staring at her with very creepy smiles, and finds herself unable to trust anything she sees or hears.
"Smile" grossed more than $217 million at the box office, a massive success given its $17 million budget, and a sequel was soon greenlit, with Finn returning as writer and director. Kyle Gallner, whose character survived the last movie and was implied to be the demon's next target, has returned for "Smile 2," and is joined by new cast members Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula,...

Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins got cheeky about the sales talks surrounding his corporate parent Paramount Global.
In a presentation to worldwide theater owners at the annual Las Vegas convention CinemaCon, Robbins got right to the point in his opening remarks about what’s next for his team. The actor-turned-executive asked the crowd at Caesars Palace if they’d heard about recent speculation over the sale before announcing that “my colleague Chris Aronson is also raising money to make a bid for the studio; he has a Kickstarter.”
The joke was accompanied by a mock news report featuring Paramount film distribution president Aronson, who was pictured holding a cardboard sign soliciting donations. “Anything helps,” it read.
Aronson is known for his deep ties to the theater owners and for splashy CinemaCon entrances. It may be super inside baseball, but the crowd ate it up. Though Robbins ultimately avoided any material...

The film is slated to open on July 4, 2025 and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. It faces some stiff competition. Universal is scheduled to release “Jurassic World 4” on July 2 and Warner Bros. and DC are planning to debut James Gunn’s “Superman” a few days later on July 11. The news came as part of Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation, where the studio also debuted footage and trailers from its sequels to “Smile,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Gladiator.” Paramount also announced it is rebooting the “Scary Movie” franchise.

“Scary Movie,” the early-aughts comedy series that lampooned horror movies like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” is getting rebooted.
Paramount Pictures announced that it is partnering with “Fast and Furious” mega-producer Neal H. Moritz to resurrect the dormant franchise. “Scary Movie” is going into production in the fall of 2024, and should hit theaters in 2025. The series spawned five previous films before running out of gas with the 2013 installment. But horror has continued to be a major force at the box office, with movies like “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “Smile” and “M3GAN” drawing big crowds. So there’s a lot of new material for the “Scary Movie” team to parody.
“Scary Movie” is also being made as part of the Paramount’s first look partnership with Miramax, the studio behind the film franchise. Miramax will fully finance the production, with Paramount handling distribution. The indie label is...

James McAvoy leads the cast in the upcoming remake of the Danish psychological horror Speak No Evil, due for release later this year.
In cinemas, horror in 2024 has taken a little time to grind into gear. The first couple of the months didn’t offer too much for fans of the genre, with Imaginary and Night Swim failing to set the box office alight (even if the latter possessed a certain charm and had Stephen King happily cheerleading it).
Still, the last month saw a double dose of fun nun horror in the form of Immaculate and The First Omen and now it finally feels like we’re up and running, even if in the US, audience numbers for the usually reliable genre are said to be down. This year still has the likes of Abigail, Smile 2 and MaXXXine to come, not to mention the release of Speak No Evil in September.

Directors are lining up left and right each month to share their favorite films from the TCM lineup, and the latest is Jason Reitman. He follows Steven Spielberg going deep on “Meet Me in St. Louis,” Martin Scorsese praising “Madonna of the Seven Moons,” Guillermo del Toro making the case why overlooked “Suspicion” is top-tier Hitchcock, and so many more.
IndieWire simply loves directors sharing their favorite films and paying tribute to the directors and screenwriters behind them. And that enthusiasm comes across loud and clear in “SNL 1975” director Reitman’s picks. First up, Reitman, whose always had an ear for dialogue himself, talks about what’s so great about the patter in Barry Levinson’s “Diner.”

Richard Donner's "The Omen" is one of the most revered horror classics of all time. Now, Disney's 20th Century Studios is bridging the franchise back from the dead for a prequel in the form of "The First Omen." Horror has been on an incredible hot streak at the box office over the last couple of years, and Disney is the best in the business at milking franchises for all they're worth. So, will this R-rated franchise revival scare up enough to make it a hit when it opens next weekend?
Director Arkasha Stevenson's horror prequel is currently expected to pull in between $8 and $13 million on its opening weekend, per Box Office Pro. It will be opening directly against Dev Patel's action flick "Monkey Man," which has its sights set on a debut between $16 and $25 million. Both movies will also be contending with "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" on its second weekend,...

It's a testament to Disney's branding that mainstream audiences don't necessarily know who directed or starred in some of their better-known movies. Although many have seen the studio's 1950 animated feature "Cinderella," most audiences wouldn't be able to tell you that Ilene Woods played the title character, or that Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi directed the film. Disney's "Aladdin" changed that with the casting of Robin Williams as the Genie. And the trend of hiring known screen celebrities, often not voice actors, to sell an animated feature to a broad audience went to a whole other level in the wake of DreamWorks' "Shrek." The advent of the internet also helped certain actresses become known among Disney fans. Nowadays, many adults know the names of the actresses who played characters like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or Ariel the Mermaid.

As unrealistic as it may sound, acting isn’t an easy job it’s a tough job, especially when it comes to doing horror movies, and Road House actor Lukas Gage’s experience will tell you why.
In 2022, the psychological horror and thriller film “Smile” was released and fans loved it, the movie made with a mere budget of 17 million managed to collect over 215 million at the box office.
Like most of the time, when a movie exceeds expectations, a sequel becomes inevitable, so “Smile 2” is in the making and is scheduled to hit the theatres this year in October.

Uh, no.
Who didn't know as soon as Chief Robinson was introduced that she was going to be trouble?
Well, Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 7 just proved it.
What do all of you do in your lives?
Do you make it your business to tear down any and everything that you don't understand, agree with, or condone, no matter who it affects?
I sure as hell hope not. It's such a miserable place to be, and it's been a guiding light of this series since Chicago Fire Season 1.
Well before we knew this place like the backs of our hands, people had been trying to destroy it. It could be ironic that first responders and rescuers are always under attack, but instead, it's just annoying.
It's natural to revisit storylines on long-running shows, but the number of times people have infiltrated Firehouse 51 to hurry along its demise is alarming.

Well, Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 7 just proved it.

Last month, it was reported that the 2024 “Road House” remake could have avoided a streaming debut, but Amazon gave “the filmmakers and (star Jake) Gyllenhaal” a choice: $60 million budget and theatrical; $85 million and streaming. Ultimately, the team chose the latter. At the film’s premiere in New York City on March 19, we asked star Lukas Gage his thoughts about the film going straight to Amazon Prime.
“I obviously love watching in a movie theater. Of course, it’s a little bit of a bummer,” Gage told IndieWire. “But look, if it’s going to be anywhere, if it’s going to go to any streaming, I would love to go to Amazon. I love what they do. I love Amazon Prime. Everything is changing, the industry is changing, and we kind of have to adapt to it.”

Parker Finn is bringing another treat for horror fans with his 2022 horror mystery Smile sequel. The White Lotus and Euphoria star Lukas Gage has joined the cast of Smile 2 and he has a positive update on the film but didn’t reveal it without sharing an intense moment on the set.
Lukas Gage in Euphoria
While the sequel is still unnamed, the movie has actually wrapped filming, at least the part of Gage as he described appearing on a SiriusXM episode. Good news for horror fans: it is quietly moving ahead at a decent pace and will soon be ready to hit the theaters.

We feel like we’re on cloud nine listening to this Kellyoke cover.
On her talk show’s musical segment this week, Kelly Clarkson performed a piano-backed rendition of Katy Perry’s hit, “Wide Awake.”
Accompanied by Musical Director Jason Halbert, the singer slowed down the Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection ballad and performed the Perry favorite acoustically, showing off her stellar vocal range.

From December through February, we followed the progress as writer/director Parker Finn assembled the cast for a sequel to his 2022 horror film Smile (read our review Here, watch the movie Here) – a project we’re referring to as Smile 2 until we hear otherwise. The cast includes Naomi Scott of Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels, Lukas Gage of The White Lotus and You, Rosemarie DeWitt of La La Land and the Poltergeist remake, Dylan Gelula of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Dream Scenario, Raúl Castillo of Army of the Dead and Knives Out, Miles Gutierrez-Riley of The Wilds and On The Come Up, and Kyle Gallner (Red State), reprising the role he played in the first movie. The film is aiming for an October 18, 2024 theatrical release date, so we knew it had to be going to production soon, if it wasn’t already filming – and now Gage has confirmed that production is already underway.

On March 4, major Hollywood crew unions began negotiating their health and pension benefits with studios and streamers, with Hollywood Teamsters head Lindsay Dougherty saying, “We will strike if we have to” during the talks. But some Los Angeles-area crewmembers say that, in the aftermath of the writers’ and actors’ walkouts in 2023, there doesn’t seem to be that much work to halt if their own stoppage is called.
Caught in a brutal industry contraction amid the demise of Peak TV, crewmembers describe an anemic return to production after the strikes, which is exacerbating problems for those who already had significantly fewer opportunities to work in 2023.
“There hasn’t been any real work,” says one location manager based in L.A., who didn’t work for seven and a half months during and after the strikes. “The industry is not back. What’s back is a few things that are doing...

Anna Nicole Smith died 17 years ago this month, but the fascination with the blond bombshell continues unabated.
Kal Penn is set to star in “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” a film that chronicles the final days of the actress and model whose accidental overdose death in 2007 at the age of 39 sparked a tabloid feeding frenzy. “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” which is based on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor’s 2017 book of the same name, marks the second film about Smith to move forward in recent months. In late December, the biopic “Hurricanna” wrapped production, with Sylvia Hoeks and Holly Hunter in the lead roles.
Written and directed by Thane Economou (“The Wedding Party”), “Trust Me I’m a Doctor” follows Smith’s pain-medication doctor whose life was turned upside down when he was implicated in the wrongful death trials of the one-time Playboy centerfold. Smith became a household name when she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J.

Paramount Pictures didn’t have a bad 2023 but had put a lot of hopes on the latest in the Mission: Impossible franchise to push them towards a great year. After Tom Cruise soared with Top Gun: Maverick, they had hoped fans would flock to theaters once again to see him in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One. Off that’s a long title. It underperformed, so the next film will get a new name. What can fans look forward to on Paramount’s 2024 release schedule?

During its first quarter earnings call earlier this month, Disney announced that the next animated film it will bring to theaters on Thanksgiving will be the sequel to its 2016 hit “Moana,” signaling a renewed push on sequels after years of original animated titles.
But “Moana 2” was originally announced in 2020, under short-lived CEO Bob Chapek, as a streaming series exclusive to Disney+. This change underscores a shifting strategy by Disney and other studios to move films previously planned for streaming to the big screen — in part to calm jittery investors nervous about the thin pipeline of tentpole movies after the Hollywood strikes.
The “Moana 2” re-direct follows Paramount’s “Mean Girls” and “Smile,” and Warner Bros./New Line’s “Evil Dead Rise,” all theatrical releases that were originally intended to be streaming-only.

Exclusive: Paramount’s Smile sequel is rounding out its cast with Raúl Castillo (Cassandro) and Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds). The film’s plot and character details are being kept under wraps.
The duo joins the previously announced cast: Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt and Dylan Gelula.
Smile writer and director returns for the second installment to again direct from his own script, with Temple Hill producing. Smile 2 is currently slated for release on October 18, 2024, when it will go up against a still-unnamed title from Universal Pictures.

Dylan Gelula may be best known for playing the role of Xanthippe Voorhees in 13 episodes of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt… but since I haven’t gotten around to watching that show yet, where I know her from is the recent Nicolas Cage movie Dream Scenario, where her character has a very memorable interaction with Cage. In 2020, during the peak of the entertainment industry’s love affair with streaming, a follow-up to Disney’s animated hit “Moana” was destined to become a television series for Disney+.
But like the movie’s shapeshifting demigod Maui, who traverses the seven seas with the eponymous Polynesian warrior, the project has transformed into something entirely new. In a surprise move, the follow-up to “Moana” has been retooled into a feature film, which is set to debut in theaters on Nov. 27.
It’s a boon for cinemas after last summer’s strikes forced studios to postpone plenty of blockbusters to 2025 and beyond. It also signals Disney’s renewed excitement for the big screen at a time when Hollywood has started to prefer the economics of selling movie tickets to a business model that was all about trying to steal Netflix’s thunder. “Moana 2” joins the studio’s upcoming “Alien” spinoff “Romulus” and 2022’s horror film “Barbarian,...

Netflix viewers are an unpredictable bunch. One minute they'll lap up a truly abject Michael Fassbender thriller, the next they'll propel the excellent "Dredd" into the Netflix Top 10. The only logical conclusion to all this is that in the age of streaming, we'll pretty much watch anything as our senses are slowly dulled by a never ending supply of "content." Still, we might as well be mildly entertained as we drift towards this bland hellscape of mediocre streaming films and AI-written movies, and this week, Netflix has provided.
This time, Fassbender is nowhere in sight. Instead, we've got "X" causing a minor stir on the Netflix charts. A24 and Ti West's 2022 effort is a slick and stunning original slasher which actually enjoyed a good critical response upon release. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes ain't bad, after all. The box office is very much in need of saving right now. January was pretty rough, with only the likes of "Mean Girls" and "The Beekeeper" there to keep theaters afloat. February is looking even more bleak as holdovers from December of last year are finally starting to taper off and "Argylle" underperformed somewhat. So, what (if anything) is coming to the rescue for movie theaters in desperate need of something new to show? "Lisa Frankenstein" is next up to bat and, at least right now, it looks unlikely to score a home run. That said, it may deliver a solid enough single, to expand upon the baseball metaphor here.
Serving as the feature directorial debut of Zelda Williams, "Lisa Frankenstein" is a horror-comedy from Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody ("Juno"). It has two promising young stars leading the way: Kathryn Newton ("Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania") and Cole Sprouse ("Riverdale"). In short,...

ScHoolboy Q has announced his next studio album, Blue Lips.
The Tde rapper confirmed the news with a trailer shared to his website, which also currently boasts a clock counting down to the record’s “intended release date” of March 1st. The 37-second clip takes place in what appears to be a film studio, with what we’ve been led to believe is the album’s tracklist (a whole 17 songs!) projected on the wall.
At the end of the trailer is a dictionary definition for “blue lips,” which reads: “Speechless, especially as the temporary result of shock or some strong emotions.” Ironically, the trailer doesn’t feature any vocals, but there is a mellow, jazzy instrumental that could sound nice with some Q bars.
Watch the trailer below, and then keep scrolling to read our best interpretation of ScHoolboy Q’s Blue Lips tracklist.
