Sandra Bullock's Horror Movie With 7% On Rotten Tomatoes Is A Streaming Hit On Hulu
Image
In a month where Netflix gave us one of its worst films yet in the Russo Brothers' slick but empty "The Electric State," and one of its best series ever in "Adolescence," Hulu has been quietly proving its worth as an alternative streaming platform. 2025's Best Picture winner, "Anora" dominated the Hulu charts upon its mid-March release, followed by Bill Burr's excellent new standup special, which similarly rose to number one in recent weeks. But this is still the streaming sphere, which means you're never far away from a truly wretched movie somehow managing to rise from the muck and attain incomprehensible success.

Enter: "Premonition" — a 2007 psychological thriller starring Sandra Bullock as a housewife whose husband may or may not be dead. Now, we've seen some real stinkers dominating streaming charts this year. For example, Prime Video had a pretty egregious February with Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson's...

The Forgotten Owen Wilson & Zach Galifianakis Movie Getting A Second Life On Prime Video
Image
Did you know that there's a movie out there starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, the late Edward Hermann, "The Office's" Jenna Fischer, Peter Bogdanovich, and even Melissa Rauch from "The Big Bang Theory?" What if I told you the movie is written and directed by Matthew Weiner, a veteran of "The Sopranos" who went on to create "Mad Men?" Are you wondering why you haven't seen it before?! It's probably because that movie, 2014's "Are You Here," was a huge flop — but I'll get back to that in just a moment. First, what is "Are You Here" — which is currently proving pretty popular on Amazon Prime Video — about?

When we first meet Wilson's local weatherman Steve Dallas, he's a womanizer who barely does his job — often outsourcing the actual weather predictions to his assistant Delia Shepherd (Lauren Lapkus) before taking credit for them on air — and blows his money on expensive dates,...

Amy Poehler Starred in This Quirky Dramedy From the 'Mad Men' Creator
Image
It can often be a challenge for actors coming off the success of a popular television show to reinvent their persona and show their range. Its been interesting to watch the careers of actors like Bryan Cranston and Peter Dinklage in the wake of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, respectively, as they have seemingly made a conscious effort to avoid comparisons with their iconic characters. However, that same challenge has never really applied to Amy Poehler, who has appeared in many comedic projects including the recently released Inside Out 2 both before and after her successful run as Lesley Knope on Parks and Recreation. Although shes often cited as one of the funniest actors of her generation, Poehler gave a surprisingly nuanced dramatic performance in the 2014 dramedy, Are You Here.

Matthew Weiner Developing Dramedy At FX
Image
FX has put in development a new series from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, Deadline has confirmed.

Details are being kept under wraps, but we hear the project is a half-hour dramedy with a mystery element and Charlie Kaufman-type odd and quirky comedic tone. Weiner would write, direct and executive produce. FX Productions would produce.

Weiner most recently created, directed and executive produced anthology series The Romanoffs, starring Mad Men alums John Slattery and Christina Hendricks, which aired for one season on Amazon Prime. He previously created, directed, executive produced and served as showrunner on Mad Men, which aired for seven seasons on AMC. The series wracked up 116 Emmy nominations during its run, winning four statuettes for best drama series from 2008-2011. His other series credits include The Sopranos and Becker, and he wrote, directed and produced the 2013 feature Are You Here?

Deadline’s sister pub Variety was first to report the project.

‘Mad Men’ Creator Matthew Weiner to Develop Mystery Dramedy at FX (Exclusive)
Image
Matthew Weiner has a new series in the works.

Variety has learned exclusively from sources that the “Mad Men” creator is developing a half-hour series at FX. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the series is being described as a mystery dramedy. Weiner is writing the series and will also executive produce and direct. FX Productions will produce.

FX declined to comment.

Should it move forward, the show would mark Weiner’s return to the world of basic cable, though it could potentially end up on FX on Hulu as well. “Mad Men” aired on AMC for seven seasons, with Weiner having served as director, executive producer, and showrunner in addition to creating it. The show received 116 Emmy nominations throughout its run, including four wins for best drama series.

Most recently, Weiner created the Amazon anthology series “The Romanoffs.” The show featured an all-star cast, including “Mad Men...

Michael Mosley at an event for Miss Bodyguard (2015)
Trisha Morton-Thomas will write/direct ‘History Bites Back’ for Nitv.

Screen Australia today announced $2 million of production funding for eight documentaries through the Producer program and two through the Commissioned program.

The slate includes a recently commissioned Sbs feature doc about the unsolved Bowraville Murders; a Dr Michael Mosley-fronted Sbs series examining Australia’s diabetes epidemic and Jen Peedom’s River, her follow up to box office hit Mountain, which will combine visuals and orchestral music to explore the relationship between humans and rivers.

“This is an exciting line up of documentaries that will provide fascinating insights into contemporary Australia on themes of the environment, health and human behaviour, as well as examining aspects of our history. We’re particularly thrilled to support a number of Indigenous stories in this slate,” Screen Australia head of documentary Bernadine Lim.

“Even under normal circumstances, the timeframe between a project being funded...

Dan Fogelman Defends ‘Life Itself’ Against Hilariously Bad Reviews
Dan Fogelman
Critics of “Life Itself” have panned the film so swiftly and with such finality that director Dan Fogelman has felt the need to fight back.

“A couple of the early reviews that have come out about this movie feel so out of left field to everybody who’s a part of this movie,” Fogelman told TooFab. “There’s a disconnect between something that is happening between our primarily white male critics who don’t like anything that has any emotion.”

Despite Fogelman’s defense, several of the negative reviews have come from women — including IndieWire’s Kate Erbland, who calls it “an unholy combination of ‘Rashomon’ and ‘Babel,’ [which] strings together seemingly disparate plotlines into one massive, messy tableau of life itself, a life that zings toward the warm embrace of death.”

The critiques are especially crushing considering that Fogelman’s hit ABC series “This is Us” garnered eight Emmy nominations this year.

What’s Leaving Netflix in September 2018
If you wanted to have a romantic comedy movie night, you better get going because a number of classics are leaving Netflix in September.

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and Jennifer Garner’s “13 Going on 30” are departing the streaming service on Sept. 1, as well as “Just Friends” with Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart. For dramatic fare, catch “Dead Poets Society,” “The Imitation Game,” and Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” before they leave at the beginning of the month.

And with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s “A Star Is Born” hitting theaters on Oct. 5, it might also be a good idea to check out the 1976 remake with Barbra Streisand before it leaves Sept. 15.

Here’s the full list of what’s leaving Netflix this month:

Watch Gwyneth Paltrow Say Harvey Weinstein 'Could Coerce You' in '98 Letterman Interview
Harvey Weinstein and Ryan Kavanaugh
Gwyneth Paltrow referred to Harvey Weinstein as a “coercer” in a recently resurfaced 1998 interview with David Letterman.

The actress — who was starring in Shakespeare in Love at the time, which Weinstein produced — has since leveled allegations of sexual harassment at the movie mogul. Paltrow won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

During the November 1998 interview, Letterman asked about Paltrow’s Thanksgiving travel plans when she remarked, “I would have ordinarily gone not on Thanksgiving but I’m here for you.”

In response, Letterman joked, “Are you here of your own free will? Has someone coerced you into being here?...

Justin Theroux in The Leftovers (2014)
By the time Sunday’s episode of The Leftovers was finished, the apocalypse couldn’t come soon enough for Kevin, Nora and anyone not enamored of a-ha. He chased a ghost, she chased, in a way, a couple of her own, “Take On Me” lodged itself in our heads anew, and, in the end, there was a sudden departure of the lowercase S and D variety that I don’t think any of us saw coming. Shooter Season 1 Episode 9 Review: Ballistic Advantage
I love the satisfaction that comes with a pesky adversary finally meeting their maker.

In fiction, of course. By all means, join me in jubilation as two of Shooter's most nefarious antagonists finally bit the bullet. May they burn for eternity in the fiery pits of hell where they belong.

Too much? Maybe a tad. I don't take it back though.

What more could you ask for in a penultimate season finale that Shooter Season 1 Episode 9 didn't give us? There was action, loads of action, not so surprise team-ups, all around badassery, and some resolution to most of the issues that have plagued Bob Lee and co. this season.

Isaac and Bob Lee teaming up was far from unexpected, but it was unexpected that I found them enjoyable to watch. The dynamic between Bob Lee, Nadine, and Isaac was quite an interesting one, and I give the first two a...

From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Dark Side of the Sun
Seth got his partner back, and everything is right with the world.

On From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 Episode 10, Kate came back to us, and it was fantastic. Seeing Kate fighting side by side with Seth and Scott was just what the doctor ordered. It had been too long since we saw them side by side fighting for their lives.

Kate's definitely come out of all of this a changed person, and more importantly, she recognized that she was no longer the same girl she was when we first met her on vacation with her dad and brother.

Back on From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 Episode 1, Seth started to question whether or not hell was coming for him, to make him pay for the things he had done. This question came back up in the finale, but this time, Kate was the one thinking that she needed to pay for...

Downton Abbey episode 4: Twitter reacts as familiar faces return and innuendos run rampant
Following last week's highly-anticipated wedding, the surprise arrival of Allen Leech as Tom Branson and the return of Rose Leslie, this week's episode was overrun with familiar faces - and fans of the show had a lot to say.

Between Branson's changing politics and the welcome return of Matthew Goode as one Henry Talbot from last year's Christmas special, Digital Spy turned to Twitter to find out what everyone thought:

For some, Tom Branson's return was welcomed whole-heartedly:

It's great to have you back @Allenleech ... Now where's that gold envelope #DowntonAbbey

"I wanna know why Loki let us **** him": Avengers Age of Ultron gets hilarious 'Unnecessary Censorship'
Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., James Spader, Paul Bettany, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Chris Hemsworth in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Avengers: Age of Ultron might be a fun-filled romp suitable for the whole family, but it gets a highly-explicit makeover in a new 'Unnecessary Censorship' video.

Cunningly dropping in swear beeps throughout clips from the film gives the Marvel blockbuster an unlikely rude edge even though, well, it really isn't that kind of movie.

The whole thing is available to watch above from DailyAsgardianNews, but below's a selection of what you can expect to hear:

"Is that why you've come? To **** the Avengers."

"Are you here to **** me Miss Romanoff, because that's not going to work out."

"I wanna know why Loki let us **** him."

The video is a sequel to the first Unnecessary Censorship based around 2012's Avengers. Worth a watch for Agent Coulson's delivery of the line "I ****ed you while you were sleeping" to Captain America.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, (free of naughty swears), is available on Blu-ray and DVD now.

'Transformers: Age of Extinction', 'Chef' & '24: Live Another Day' on DVD & Blu-ray Today
Chef One of the best films of 2014 so far and a movie that, while I wish you had seen it in theaters (that is if you didn't), will play perfectly at home. I really hope all of you get a chance to check out Jon Favreau's Chef, not because it's Amazing, but because it's just a good, sweet, funny film. Here's my review if you're interested.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Now if you haven't seen Transformers: Age of Extinction, woe be to those of you that watch it for the first time at home. This is a film meant to be seen on a giant screen as it pummels you into submission. At home I just don't see the point. Here's my theatrical review and then an article I wrote examining Michael Bay and the movie if you're interested.

24: Live Another Day I've seen about two or three...

Outlander (2014)
"Are you here by your own choice?" a redcoat asks Claire (Caitriona Balfe) at the start of this week's episode of Outlander. It's a vital question for Claire - she waits to respond and everyone looks shifty while waiting for her to answer. "I am a guest of the Clan MacKenzie," she says at last, surprising Dougal (Graham McTavish). The British decide to take her back to their general anyways, and Dougal insists on accompanying her. Once they reach the garrison, however, he's relentlessly mocked by the British. Claire defends Dougal, coming dangerously close to outing herself as a Scottish sympathizer.

Are You Here Hitting September 30th
Matthew Weiner of Mad Men fame is coming you way with his feature film writing/directing debut, Are You Here. The bizarre-sounding story is brought to you with a cast you might expect isn’t difficult for someone with Mad Men under his belt to get into his film.

Ben (Zach Galifianakis) inherits a sizable fortune when his father dies, despite the fact that Ben lives off-the-grid and had been estranged from his father. Steve Dalls (Owen Wilson), a womanizer and local television personality, is a friend of Ben’s, and decides to join up with Ben to fight the legal battle brought by Ben’s sister (Amy Poehler), but there’s a lot more going on than that. Check the trailer below for more of an idea of the ins and outs of friendship that are explored in this one.

The comedy certainly has the talent, including an impressive supporting cast,...

Jennifer Lawrence in Die Tribute von Panem - The Hunger Games (2012)
Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen appears in new 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay" poster
Jennifer Lawrence in Die Tribute von Panem - The Hunger Games (2012)
Her skills in the Hunger Games have proven that you should never turn your back on Katniss Everdeen. However, Katniss has her back turned on us in a new teaser poster for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1." The poster premiered earlier today on the movie's mobile app. Dressed all in black in the poster, this look at Katniss is certainly minimal, but it is definitely still powerful. As you can see, the bottom of the poster offers the Mockingjay symbol and the words "I Am. I Will." Those are the only words we hear from Katniss in the teaser trailer for "Mockingjay – Part 1." She says them in response to a question she gets at an emergency shelter, "Are you fighting, Katniss? Are you here to fight with us?" While the caps make her announce sound emphatic, the look on her face in the trailer is anything but. She may be a symbol,...

Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon: Day 11 - HitFix Picks
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
[As you probably already know, starting on Thursday, August 21, Fxx is running the Every Simpsons Ever Marathon, running through all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons," plus "The Simpsons Movie." To aid in your viewing process, Team HitFix is selecting our favorite episodes from each day, plus an episode or two that you can skip and use as a bathroom or nap break.] We're nearing the end! Day 11 of Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon takes us from "The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed" (mid-Season 21) through "Beware My Cheating Bart" (late-Season 23). Personally, I was shocked to see at least one or two episodes in this period that I haven't seen, as well as a lot of episodes I haven't seen multiple times, which was almost unheard-of for the first eight or nine days of the Marathon. But we still have preferences for you. Yup! We're gonna make it through this whole darned Marathon, for which we're unlikely to receive a prize. But we've got commitment. [Oh and the episode guest-starring Katy Perry is "The Fight Before Christmas," airing at 7:30 a.m. It was neither good nor bad enough to get mentioned here, but it makes for a good picture.] Check out our recommendations for Day 10 and chime in with your own favorites... Katie Hasty Recommends: "The Bob Next Door" (3 a.m.) Episode #463 Why it's worth watching: The best Sideshow Bob is an evil Sideshow Bob. And the best kind of Nicolas Cage movie is "Face/Off." Peter Travers Takes on Ninja Turtles, Stallone and the Worst Movies of August
With summer slouching towards its sweltering end, Hollywood is throwing everything and the kitchen sink into theaters, hoping something will magically turn into blockbuster gold. Unfortunately for them, Peter Travers is back with his trusty Scum Bucket — and he's itching to fight these films back and vanquish the 10 worst movies of August.

First up is The November Man, in which Pierce Brosnan plays a spy nowhere near as cool as James Bond and who's stuck doing the same old boring action movie stuff (like screaming, "Run!"). Next is the latest in the Step Up series,...

Interview with Matthew Weiner, writer/director of Are You Here
The new film Are You Here follows Steve Dallas (Owen Wilson), a womanizing weatherman, and his slightly off best friend, Ben Baker (Zach Galifianakis), as they return to Ben’s childhood home after his estranged father passes away. Upon learning that Ben has inherited a majority of the family fortune, the two friends must deal not only with the strain these events are having on their friendship, but with Ben’s controlling and bitter sister (Amy Poehler), Ben’s father’s beautiful young widow (Laura Ramsey), and each of their own shortcomings as they try to straighten out and take control of their lives

Film Review: ‘Are You Here’ Feels Like Mashup of Two Different Films
Chicago – You would think that a film written and directed by Matthew Weiner – the creator of “Mad Men” – would be worthwhile company, especially when the cast includes Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Amy Poehler. It is disappointing to note that not only was this cliché-ridden mess unpalatable, but it also switched gears two-thirds of the way through to evoke a different mood, and that schizophrenia didn’t help the overall product.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

The story of two dysfunctional friends who go to the country because one of them has inherited the farm sounds ho-hum just in that description, and everything that happens seems wedged in by presenting a series of assigned stereotypes instead of interesting characters. Owen Wilson, now pushing 50, is again portraying his familiar puppy dog womanizer character, which is now as creaky as his standard tousled hair cut. Zach Galifianakis again plays the puffy and confused stoner manboy, but...

Is It Possible for Matthew Weiner to Be Matthew Weiner on the Big Screen?
Matthew Weiner
Crazily uneven as it is, Matthew Weiner’s comic drama Are You Here should be seen on account of being … Matthew Weiner’s. Mad Men is among TV’s supreme dramatic achievements, and anything that illuminates its creator’s worldview — especially as we prepare for the final episodes — is helpful in putting the show in perspective. And the movie is very illuminating. It’s practically an essay on the counterculture, in how being an unruly outsider can liberate us from the meaninglessness of the capitalist grind — and yet also be a stage for self-destruction. It’s funny, clunky, earnest, and barely credible, but it’s all of a piece.Owen Wilson is the Don Draper character, Steve Dallas, who also has a heavy dose of Bill Murray. He’s an oversexed, wiseacre pothead weatherman in a small market (Annapolis), and he’s clearly on a road that leads nowhere. Early on,...

On the latest episode of TheWrap's popular video series “Drinking With the Stars,” Laura Ramsey, who plays the female lead alongside Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis in Matthew Weiner‘s comedy “Are You Here,” sat down with film reporter Jeff Sneider to discuss how her experience on “Mad Men” helped her land the coveted role. Ramsey and Sneider enjoyed drinks at Mixology at The Grove in West Hollywood, where the up-and-coming actress looked completely different than she does in “Are You Here.” Also watch: Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Amy Poehler Help Matthew Weiner Do Comedy in ‘Are You Here’ Trailer (Video) Despite.

Are You Here – The Review
Confession time. I really wanted to love this movie. I mean, I really, really, really did. Sadly, not everything we want in life comes true. On the other hand, I’m an optimist and try to remain open to compromise. So, while I did not hate the film by any means, I came away only kind of liking Are You Here.

Matthew Weiner makes his feature film debut as a writer and director with Are You Here. For those of you in the know, that alone is quite an exciting idea. For those of you who watch too much reality TV and not enough of the good stuff, Matthew Weiner is known for writing substantially on the AMC series Mad Men and the HBO series The Sopranos. Now that I have your attention, I’m afraid things about about to get real, as in real disappointing.

Are You Here had a lot of promise.

Specialty B.O. Preview: ‘Love Is Strange’, ‘Are You Here’, ‘To Be Takei’, ‘Winter In The Blood’, ‘The Olivia Experiment’, ‘Expedition To The End Of The World’
Alfred Molina and John Lithgow in Liebe geht seltsame Wege (2014)
There was a time when two veteran straight actors such as John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, taking on the roles of a gay couple and their subsequent travails at married life would have been the tabloid equivalent of shock and awe. It still might raise some eyebrows, but Ira Sachs’ Love Is Strange is a testimony to societal progress in terms of storytelling. Now it will face the box office as the Specialty title platforms this weekend via Sony Classics. A real-life gay marriage takes the spotlight this weekend courtesy of Starz Digital doc To Be Takei about the multi-faceted actor/activist and social media talent who is best known for playing Hikaru Sulu in TV’s original Star Trek. It will be joined by Millennium Entertainment’s Are You Here with Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler which will open day and date by Mad Men writer Matthew Weiner.

Frank Miller at an event for The Spirit (2008)
Box office preview: Will teen drama 'If I Stay' top 'Sin City' sequel?
Frank Miller at an event for The Spirit (2008)
It takes a special kind of sequel to be able to withstand a nine-year gap between releases, and unfortunately for Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, Sin City: A Dame to Kill for doesn’t appear to be up to the task. Instead, the Ya adaptation If I Stay looks poised to take first place this weekend.

Here’s how things might play out.

1. If I Stay — $20 million

Chloë Grace Moretz stars as Mia, a 17-year-old cellist who is coma-bound after a car crash that kills her family, in this emotional adaptation of Gayle Forman’s 2009 bestseller. MGM and New-Line co-financed the $11 million project,...
