Rats on a train
kosmasp1 November 2022
No pun intended - and I've had it with those titles utilizing ... wait Samuel L. Jackson said something different didn't he? Yes I know he did. But I had to use this to solidify my pun in the summary headline or whatever you want to call it. CGI is quite obvious here too - and maybe not up to the standard you are used to. Still with a title like that I do wonder what you would expect this to have or offer.

There is some story and the characters do try their best, but overall the effort does not really sum up to much or anything at all. If you have love for B-movie horror and can suspend your disbelief enough ... well there may be a chance for you to enjoy this ... and some obviously did more than others. And I do rate quite high usually ... and still I am not the highest rating individual on here.

Bad and boring but you can watch it if there's nothing else you find

A really bad wanna-be "Train to Busan" but with killer rats instead of zombies.

First of all, the original Chinese audio is a badly dubbed Chinese audio track and sounds very artificial. This often happens with Chinese movies and I have no idea why that is. Plus, unfortunately, we have so much overacting in this feature that it's difficult to watch. The story has so many logic holes, I cannot count them (why are there so many rats, where do they come from, why did no one notice them, why is the train looking like it's 1940 etc.). The CGI is incredibly bad - it's like you watch a movie from the early 90ies. And we have again pathetic speeches at the end.

Still, I couldn't switch it off, and the 90 minutes were gone quite fast. So it somehow kept me watching. Nevertheless, there's neither suspense, nor any blood and gore (really, nothing) and even the "jokes" where not funny. 3/10 from me for a nice setting and some good camera, and it has at least *some* entertaining aspects.

Really good

I have seen this on a channel that uploads many Chinese monster movies and they're usually mediocre with poor budget but this was among the good ones. I think it's worthy of a theater release, they put effort into character development, thrill, and suspense. The rats were destructive, imposing, and entertaining to watch. Among the many movies on the channel this is without a doubt the best but it could have been extended for character development. It is watchable but doesn't offer anything unique to be considered beyond 7/10 but I would recommend this for anyone who likes horror, thriller, or monster movies.
