Aussies did it better
April-Jo10 July 2022
There is an Australian series called Royal Flying Doctor Service. Same premises, but the Australian is so much better. If I were you I'd skip this one and watch Royal Flying Doctor Service instead.

Not bad, good scenery, nice eye-candy
cwalker-0455113 July 2022
I think a lot of user reviewers are mocking the diverse cast. I know I'm not the target audience since I like more action and less relationship drama. True, it's a young cast and some of the acting needs more polishing and experience. The scripts seem to be improving which is good IMO. I'm at ep6 watching right now. It's interesting to me to see the indigenous culture surviving after centuries of colonization. I'm hoping the season finale is as good.

Such Potential Wasted
classicguitargirl22 August 2022
I was very excited to watch the first few episodes and see the northern landscape and an attempt at showing the remoteness and isolation. The romantic melodramatic interludes aren't interesting. I find it odd that all the cast are young and confused yet heroic. Only one character, an Uncle is over 30 but we don't meet him until episode 5. I like how the show nightlight problems and issues in communities. I feel the the writers have run out of things to happen so they create mini romance interludes and these are not interesting. I enjoyed the episodes where they dealt with a crisis and helped out. I like hearing native languages spoken. I don't think the writers know whether to make this a northern Bay Watch or an adventure show.

Lots of good elements,
annebouscal11 August 2022
But feeble writing. I had high hopes for this series-- Canadian production set in the North with many First Nations actors. It touches only lightly on some really important issues, and the interpersonal drama is sophomoric. I'd like to see the characters and their relationships with more depth than just a series of hook-ups.

Why are community people just background who seem to just mill around for the most part. Living where they do, there should be issues with water quality, costs of goods and services, and fuel. The corporate politics are right, but the investigations seem pretty feeble. I'm only at episode 5, so perhaps I'll have reason to improve my rating in a few more issues.

Effective Drama
richardpalm12 July 2022
I can see why this series might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it enough to binge-watch all nine episodes in two days. The actors did a good job of portraying the emotions resulting from the situations in which the characters found themselves, and I also I enjoyed the portrayal of what life is like in the Canadian north. (Although it's being streamed in the U. S. by Paramount+, it's actually a Canadian production.)

OK But
doug2go10 November 2022
I enjoy shows that locate in the Northwest , Alaska and now Manitoba but am getting very tired of shows trying to be social correct and hitting us over the head with ethnic drama - almost every Aftrican American that lives in Manitoba works for SkyMed - what is wrong with that picture - it is like Martin Luther King giving a racial equality speech in Sweden - aside from that I am having a problem with the chemistry between the characters - it is at best edgy and at worst non existent - there is no obvious connection and the socially correct mixed relationship in episode #1 was ill timed, poorly done and unnecessary - I am going to watch another episode because of the scenery and story and not because of the characters.

Should be renamed to SkyBang!
raqsar29 July 2022
Man this show is bad, in my opinion the acting is poor, the writing is worse, it just seems like its all about who is banging who, and the worse part is it doesn't feel like any of these actors have any chemistry with each other most of it feels forced.

I'm hooked
rubyred716016 July 2022
I discovered this show on accident. And I am very glad I did thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2. I don't have anything negative to say. I just thought it was little strange that all the pilots and nurses were so young. They all were very talented and good actors. I just find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be someone of a more mature age in real life doing this kind of work.

Not bad, but not accurate
doctorsphonebox15 August 2022
I went into watching this fully expecting things would be woefully inaccurate (Same with arctic air but I still enjoyed that), and I was not disproved. Anyone in the aviation or medical community can point out numerous things in the trailer alone. SOPs on the aviation side are definitely off and the medic side are definitely not right either.

That being said, if I just laugh at those things and ignore some of the forced relationships then I actually enjoy the show for the friendships, amusement, and character development.

Air Crash
purple-mug25 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What can you possibly do to make a mess of an account of the thrills and spills of emergency first response in the wilderness of the North? You'd be amazed. Terrible scripting, terrible acting, terrible clichés, and, of course, a disaster personally affecting the whole cast in the very first episode. The people who actually sacrifice so much to serve in the capacity of medical professionals in extreme circumstances deserve much better representation than this hackneyed, soapy nonsense.

Exciting great show
margdeantunano11 July 2022
This show is well written, acted and executed. I got hooked right away. It is intriguing and exciting, particularly seeing how the characters develop over time. What a breath of fresh air to see so much representation in one show. The connection with native communities up North is also very special and as a Canadian, appreciate Canada being represented in the show and not pretending to be somewhere else. As a woman, I liked how they show the challenges women have in life and in the workforce. The characters have courage and strength. Kudos to the creators and actors. Can't wait to finish season 1 and watch season 2!

Interesting, diverse, cast, pretty standard romance plotting
Grace_Rose413 July 2022
I really like the setting of this show, a primarily indigenous presumably far-north area in Canada. I like that the characters are a range of personalities, backgrounds, and histories. There are characters who are people of color, who are gay, who are Black, who are white, who are indigenous. I'm sorry for the people here who find that mix too "woke", and not white enough for them. I think it adds a great deal to the show.

I don't particularly care, though, for the fact that the characters often don't have each other's backs, and do a lot of sniping at each other.

Other reviews have mentioned glaring inaccuracies in the medical pieces of the plot line, which I have no expertise to address, but it's something to be aware of if you watch this series.

There are also disconnections in the plots. Something will happen in the opening of an episode that clearly needs medical attention, then they cut to the opening credits and the incident is never mentioned again. Weird. The plots are primarily about the budding relationships among the various characters.

Lastly, a number of reviews compare this show to the Australian version - I agree that overall that show is better done.

Could have been great
tiffanyshireysmith7 January 2023
The medical/professional situations they dealt with could have made this an interesting show but it was more like some cheesy "reality" show where a bunch of horny drunk kids are having sex with anyone and everyone. Young, professional adults do not act like this in the real world. Poor acting, poor writing, overall a disappointing show to attempt to watch. It was difficult to maintain focus on any particular episode, can't imagine a situation where I would ever choose to watch this again. This show wasn't worth 600 characters but it's required so I'll fill the holes the same as the writers. Sex.. Sex.. More sex.

Needs improvement.
missmishka16 July 2022
The casting and cinematography are great. The acting is very good. It has potential and was very watchable as a background show while I worked. The defencities are in the writing and pacing. For the writing, it is, at times, trite, predictable, melodramatic and overall shallow. It has good bones, but everything in the storylines needs more fleshing out and depth to be truly good. For the pacing, everything is ridiculously fast, adding to the shallowness of the overall show because all issues are resolved so quickly while the focus shifts from one thing to another. Everything is like cliff notes or a speed read instead of getting the full story for the people and places showcased. Those people and places deserve to have real, rich stories told about them. I would gladly watch more seasons, but I hope to see better utilization of the cast and location.

Love love love
skpn12324 July 2022
To me this series has a similar resonance to New Amsterdam. In addition, lovely scenery, relatable characters, a sense of the camaraderie and team work that only comes from work in isolated areas. Brought back a lot of memories of my time working with indigenous people on Thursday Island in Australia's far north. Just don't expect it to be medically accurate - it is a TV drama, not intended to be a documentary.

Not woke
paul-4359312 July 2022
This is one of those series that has something for everyone. The LGBTQ story lines are not forced and makes sense for the story mine. It's not just to thrown it in like many shows (looking at you cw).

Well worth a watch and a fun summer show!

Not even remotely accurate
dantos-318 July 2022
First off, having been an air ambulance pilot in both Northern Manitoba and Nunavut, I can tell you that none of it was as glamorous has portrayed in this terrible show. I even flew the same King Air 200 that they show in this show. The crews are 99% white, flight nurses generally mid-30s to late 50s. The housing was leaky old portables and if we were lucky some dodgy motel with running water. It sucked hard but the work that was done was important to the small communities we serviced. This sh0w does an injustice to that. Would of been better to just make a documentary like Ice Pilots.

DEFINITELY WILL WATCH AGAIN
luckster-7961814 July 2022
I thought it was very good. I think it will get even better. As the series goes along I notice the chemistry between actors increase. I liked the story line and it was well written. Refreshing actually.

Nothing New
kse-8722418 January 2024
The first season was enjoyable. I really liked the setting and the concept. The characters had good chemistry. The second season was different. The writers were just shoving politics into practically every storyline. The characters seemed to lose their chemistry. They didn't seem genuine in their relationships. The only relationship that seemed noble and worth watching was blown up at the very beginning on season two. I found myself forcing myself to watch it to "get it over with" rather that watching it because I enjoyed it. Can we all acknowledge Hollywood is very politically correct and get on with good storylines, again?

Cheesy
djxtreme782 November 2022
This was really bad . Bad script , bad acting , just cheesy and fake . Low budget crap , terrible it was actually really awkward to watch .

I think australia had the flying doctors and it was 100 times better and more believable then this rubbish . Seriously even the basic first aid was wrong let alone trying to have us believe that emergency management aircraft don't have so much tech on them these days the flight paramedics can literally do just about anything for a patient in those aircraft . This just wasn't believable, it had promise but it's just too corny . Maybe try again and take some pointers from real modern flight paramedics and the aircraft they use today .

Worth checking out
Shannonbrandon25 July 2022
I really enjoyed the show. There were a lot of medical inaccuracies but you should expect that with any TV show (the good doctor, Grey's etc are also very inaccurate). What medical procedures they do they at least so correctly with the right terminology although it would never happen as depicted. I loved the focus on Native culture and that both straight and homosexual characters were treated the same and it didn't seem just thrown in to tick a box.

If you are in healthcare this is laughable. If you are into teen drama, please enjoy.

Its quite an insult to anyone that is an EMT, paramedic or emergency care.

Just watched the whole first season. Being of an older generation I understand the mix of cast . Great job. Someone compared to Aussie show it also did a good job.

If I could give it a zero, I would
ruddickk14 July 2022
RN/Medic here with flight paramedic in the house. One of the worse depictions of EMS that I have ever seen. Not realistic in the slightest. I think we stopped it to roll our eyes 4 times in the 20 minutes and talked about how many things were wrong. Cringy, af. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Enjoying the character development in Skymed. Curious to see where pregnancy of the character Madison develops in light of recent abortion legislation in USA. Hoping she can be an example for single moms everywhere. Good show.
