Utter trash

I can't believe that it is possible to make a movie this bad. How anyone could say 'Yep, that's a good movie, let's release it', is beyond me. Even less so do I understand the other 10 star review. This is my first review here on IMDb, simply because I can't let it stand like this.

The script is an absolute mess with - even for a horror movie - completely unrealistic decisions and events, dialogues that would never occur in real life. The actors are terribly wooden and made the characters unlikeable to begin with.

One star because visually it wasn't too bad but overall it feels like they tried hard to make this another Dark but failed miserably.

Good, Surprising Little Thriller!
FreyjaGodsdottir28 January 2023
I almost believed the one-star review. Don't! Not the best film ever but it entertained me and was exactly what I wanted on this dark and stormy night. I even covered my eyes a few times and I'm an avid horror fan - because I seriously didn't ever know what was going to happen next!

Watch this if:

You want a "it was a dark and stormy night"-type thriller with a creepy vibe. You like action and don't need a lot of hack-n-slash, although you don't mind some blood. You like movies that build tension. You don't mind reading subtitles. You don't mind the paranormal. Twists and turns are your thing. You get super creeped out by the woods.

Movies this draws from: Blair Witch. The Halloween Series. Dead End.

Don't watch if:

You want mile-a-minute action. You need to know what's going on every second. You get super frustrated with some very dumb decisions ("I'm just gonna walk out here alone in the woods for a bit...") You don't want to read subtitles.

Blair Witch with more budget
aweber-7168919 November 2022
I was looking for something to watch...as a huge fan of the horror genre I was intrigued by the title, and started to watch without knowing what I was getting into... The greyish, slow, beautiful setting got me interested, the beautiful actors (father & daughter) as well. As the storyline developed I found myself sitting by the edge of my seat. The idea in this horror movie is not new but as a big Blair Witch Project fan I loved the first half of it. Suspense, suspense, suspense. You always want to know whats next, looking over your shoulder. The twist is great! Keeps you wanting more... I love horror movies but lately they are all the same...this one is a low budget movie with so much talent... We need more of those.

Scary as hell

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the style of the film. It's so dark and claustrophobic that it's easy to empathize with Mats and Mia. You're just scared all the time. I especially liked the first act and the end. But I don't want to spoil too much here. Nothing is as it seems and it takes a moment to put the pieces of the puzzle together. In the end it all comes together. I think the lightning and camera was really good. Also the two main characters (Mats & Mia) just nailed it. I just wished, that. I just wished there was some more confusion to whether it ended up being supernatural or real. In the Woods is definitely a perfect Halloween movie to get the creeps out of.

Refreshing little movie

The movie seems to be completely predictable but it's anything but predictable. No CGI to be found as well, which I found so wonderful! This is a movie to go to, squirm uncomfortably in your seat while eating popcorn at the completely bizarre on going. It's rare to find a movie that checks all of the boxes you're looking for. This one succeeds on so many levels - the acting, the dialogue, the sound, the cinematography, the building dread, the scares, and the payoff. It deftly uses the real life horror scenario of feeling powerless and alone to build tension and then the third act hits you so hard that you nearly tear couch off for pure terror.
