At a time when hate and intolerance towards the LGBTQ+ community is on the rise, I wanted to write a horror comedy with heart that showcased drag queens and queers as the heroes. Drag queens have always been a symbol of resistance and resilience, so seeing them kick-ass against a bunch of blood-sucking vampires felt like a comical, yet pointed allegory.

Slay is what you might get if you mixed From Dusk Till Dawn with To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Only, instead of putting Hollywood actors in drag, cast lead roles with contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned may be the most unexpected sequel in recent memory, and in a year that’s seen Eraser: Reborn and Blade of the 47 Ronin that’s saying a lot. The 2013 original was a Men in Black style action comedy that featured Ryan Reynolds as a ghostly cop protecting the living from undead threats. It was also an expensive flop, the kind studios want to forget, not make sequels, or in this case, prequels, to.
Set in 1876, R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned is the story of Sheriff Roy Pulsipher, played by Jeff Bridges in the original and Jeffrey Donovan this time around. Here he’s meeting his daughter Charlotte and her fiance Angus at the train station when a robbery occurs and he’s killed in a shootout.

Being honest is necessary at this time since it’s not difficult in the least to say that a lot of people were willing to give this movie the benefit of the doubt to start with, but some still held their own reservations concerning the idea of a reboot. There is a perfectly good reason for this to be certain, and it’s the fact that the original Eraser, however inaccurate it was when it came to one element or another, was a classic since it had Arnold Schwarzenegger. Imagine what a brief cameo might have done for this movie or what

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” (Lionsgate) could very easily have been a one-joke movie, but Nicolas Cage playing a less successful and more venal version of himself is just the launching point for a clever and engaging film about fame, the movies and male bonding. When “Cage” accepts a gig to appear at the birthday of a nefarious Spanish billionaire (a hilarious Pedro Pascal), it’s one surprise after another both for our hero and for the audience.
Also available:
“Ambulance” (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment): Michael Bay puts the robots away for this heart-thumping caper starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
“The Bad Guys” (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment): Animated anthropomorphic villains seek some redemption in this Dreamworks comedy.
“The Contractor” (Paramount Home Entertainment): Chris Pine stars as a desperate veteran who gets tied up with an underground paramilitary force.

Talk about reviving a franchise from the grave! Twenty-six years (26!) after Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1996 action film Eraser comes a franchise reboot featuring none of the original cast and with two veterans of franchise reboots and Dtv sequels at the helm, director John Pogue and writer Michael D. Weiss. Yet whilst both filmmakers have experience in reboots and sequels they also have some other fantastic movies under their belts – Pogue wrote all Three of The Skulls movies (the second being a personal favourite) and Weiss penned some classic Dtv movies that went on to be staples of the early days of budget DVDs – Octopus and it’s sequel, Crocodile and US Seals 2… Yes, Eraser: Reborn has quite the pedigree.

Hollywood absolutely loves a reboot, and even movies that people seem to care very little about are not immune to this phenomenon. Case in point: Warner Bros. is giving us a home video sequel to the kind-of-forgotten '90s Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick "Eraser" in the form of "Eraser: Reborn" this summer.
Schwarzenegger is not along for the ride, but there is at least one hippo in the trailer, which is certainly something. Let's have a look-see.
Dominic Sherwood ("Shadowhunters") leads the way as Mason Pollard in the reboot. The trailer very much has direct-to-dvd action movie vibes, no doubt about that. That said, it's...

"You can save me, right?" "I can help you stay alive." Warner Bros Home Ent. has revealed the first official trailer for Eraser: Reborn, described as a "reboot of the 1996 blockbuster". That title makes it seem like a sequel, though it seems to be less about the sci-fi action this time and more about what's going on with this clandestine side of the government. The story is based on U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard who is specialized in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that leave no trace of their existence after. The film stars Dominic Sherwood as Mason Pollard, Jacky Lai, McKinley Belcher III as Paul Whitlock, a mentor to Pollard, and Eddie Ramos as Sugar Jax, a local gangster. This looks so generic and forgettable. Though they did find a way to put an angry hippo into this! (Though in the first movie it's a crocodile.) The trailer...
