Stop overrating this game. It's great but not a Masterpiece
heckyhills14 January 2024
Spider man 2 should be a 10, but it's not. It has higher highs than the first game, but lower lows.

In terms of combat, if you enjoyed the previous game than you'll love this because it's even better, in fact, most mechanics in this game are great and improved from the first game. Something that doesn't improve are the puzzles, and, considering that the puzzles are so prominent in this game I'm honestly so suprised at how bad they are. They are easy, dumb and pointless. They are literally filler with no individuality. In fact, that goes for most of the saide quests in this game. Some hint at other villians and have fun teasers, plus the flame missions are genuinely worthwhile and fun, but the rest is a little bit plain and monotonous. Not bad, just, not good. Traversal is also like the best out of any other game of all time here so there's that I suppose. Boss fights are a major improment over the first game, even if I feel the spectacle was inconsistent between some of the battles.

In terms of story, there is much to love, but a lot to hate. I fell like Kraven is severely undercooked, he's the main villian in the game and yet you spend hours on end fighting his stupid goons and only see him for 6 scenes. I feel like they played his cards wrong considering that his actual charachter was really well made and his themes and concepts were riveting. Venom is underused, there's no doubt. He's in it for 5 missions and is totally wasted in this game. His motives don't make sense and whilst Harry's could have been really good, there isn't much sense in his motivations. Now, this is because of the symbiote effect on people in the game. It doesn't expand in inner problems from the characters, but makes them up when they have the symbiote. Therefore, there is no tension at all, because the stakes aren't there. Miles has the best arc in the game by far, it's well developed and makes a lot of sense. Peter (who is predominantly the protagonist in the game) isn't well developed however, for when he's in the symbiote there are no stakes, as I mentioned earlier. The writing is corny at times, but it's okay because the voice acting is spot on.

I don't dislike the game at all, it improves so much and core aspects are really good, but it has its gaps in its greatness where the first game doesn't. I still prefer this one, however.

GOTY 2023 HERE!!!!
singhgouravpreet20 October 2023
One of the best games I've ever played, hell it's GOTY at least for me. I was mind blown seeing the fluidity of combat, the graphics, traversal and especially those freaking Web Wings, I'm in love with 'em, definitely a step up from previous games. It takes the formula of what made the previous titles such great games and it drastically improves upon them. I see people complain about the play time being 20-35 hours, but I'm okay with it, I would rather want a polished, great, fun, amazing, not boring, and a wonderful experience rather than exaggerated for 100 of hours tired of the freaking game, so I would say it is one of the best games this year, seeing a character switch system like GTA5 just made this game more great, a definite best exclusive for PS5, cheers INSOMNIAC!!!!

Improved everything!
joliverfreitas23 October 2023
The first game had its flaws being the repetitiveness. The Miles Morales game had no real issues, just wasn't as long, intriguing, and impactful. Spider-Man 2 on the other hand delivered all of this, and so much more. They improved seriously everything. The scale of the missions and side missions, the traversal, the character building, the set pieces, storytelling, combat, versatility, and graphics. Not to mention the fantastic use of next-gen tech. This truly felt like a PS5 game from start to finish.

I loved this game. It never gets boring or dragged out. It is perfectly long and no way near as repetitive as the first two games. I personally didn't get any fatigue at all. Even for the things that were basically the same in the previous games, they changed them enough to make them better in every way. Like for example the car chase crimes, MJ missions (huge improvement btw), and just general crime in the city. They really fine tuned everything in this game. In my experience even bugs were almost fully thinned out. I had like max 5, and only one of them crashed my game. My playthrough was hella smooth and very pleasant!

I have to applaud everyone at Insomniac for this masterpiece. I was hooked from the start and never lost interest. This was filled with surprises and just kept getting better the more I played. I have no complaints at all for this game. This blew it out of the water for all other future story driven games out there. I'm no big gamer, but I can't see anything topping this in the near future. It's a masterpiece. Thank you Insomniac.

Spider-Man 2 is potentially game of the year
jacobtarter23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'll start off with the negatives, which is an extremely small list so that's why it's going first . It's a nitpick , but like not every boss imo should get 3 rounds in a boss fight . Ofc venom , Lizard and Kraven should get 3 rounds since their the 3 biggest villain characters in the game . But the others, only really should get 2 at most . Cause eventually they all just get a bit repetitive (still great fights ). Positives, the main villains were well done . They did a great job of making kraven this big deal to where he didn't really get overshadowed by venom when he finally shows up . Where as the first game , I did like Martin Li as the villain but as soon as doc ock showed up he almost kinda became secondary. Kraven didn't feel like that imo. And the boss fights were improved on for sure , acting was amazing (Yuri Lowenthal should get nominated for an award for his performance) graphics amazing. Some of the side characters (like Miles mom and Hailey) got more screen time then I thought I they were . They built up the on screen relationship between Peter and Harry really well . And Harry's disease storyline was executed really well and actually had a reason to go against peter . Peter knew he needed the suit back cause he was starting to die again , and he didn't . The MJ missions are actually enjoyable too. And i really love how dark it was for a Spider-Man project, like it wasn't Batman level or nothing or rated M, but like they pushed the rates T (for teens) to its limit.

World's one of the greatest game
ss-9621621 October 2023
In the world of superhero video games, few titles have captured the essence of their comic book counterparts as brilliantly as the Spider-Man series from Insomniac Games. The sequel, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2," takes everything that made the first game great and amps it up to create an even more exhilarating and immersive experience. From its compelling narrative to its stunning graphics and enhanced gameplay, Spider-Man 2 swings onto the scene as a must-play title for fans and gamers alike.

The story in "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" is a true standout. It continues the tale of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, now working together as Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, respectively. The game introduces a new and formidable antagonist, Kraven the Hunter, who challenges the two heroes in unexpected ways. Additionally, the return of Venom adds complexity to the narrative, as the character grapples with his newfound powers and responsibilities. The writing is sharp, and the character development is top-notch, creating a rich and emotionally resonant storyline that keeps players invested from start to finish.

One of the game's most striking features is its jaw-dropping graphics. The previous installment was a visual feast, and Spider-Man 2 takes it to the next level. The city of New York is more vibrant and detailed than ever, with dynamic weather effects and realistic lighting that make swinging through the city an absolute joy. The character models, too, are incredibly lifelike, with an attention to detail that makes it feel as if you're controlling the web-slinger himself. The cutscenes seamlessly blend with the gameplay, ensuring a visually cohesive and immersive experience.

Gameplay is where Spider-Man 2 truly shines. Swinging through the city remains a fluid and exhilarating experience, as it was in the first game. The controls are intuitive, making it easy for both newcomers and veterans to jump right in. What's new, however, are the combat mechanics. The addition of team-up moves between Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 adds depth and excitement to battles. The combat animations are smoother and more varied, and players can switch between the two characters on the fly, allowing for dynamic and satisfying combat encounters.

In addition to the improved combat, both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 have their unique abilities and skill trees. This customization adds strategic depth to the game, allowing players to tailor their playstyle to their liking. Whether you prefer a more stealthy approach or enjoy going head-to-head with foes, the game accommodates a variety of strategies. The city also offers numerous side activities, from crime-fighting to collectibles, providing plenty of opportunities for exploration and engagement beyond the main story.

Another significant addition to "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" is the inclusion of a cooperative mode. Players can team up with a friend in local or online co-op to take on challenges and missions together. This feature adds a social dimension to the game and enhances the already outstanding gameplay experience. It's a great way to share the web-swinging and crime-fighting with a friend, and it's a testament to the game's versatility.

The audio in Spider-Man 2 is just as impressive as the visuals and gameplay. The music, composed by John Paesano, complements the high-stakes action and emotional moments perfectly. The voice acting is stellar, with the returning cast delivering top-notch performances. The banter between Peter and Miles as they navigate the challenges of being heroes is particularly well-executed, adding depth and humor to the characters.

If there's one aspect where Spider-Man 2 might be seen as falling slightly short, it's the length of the main story. While the narrative is engaging, some players may find it a bit shorter than expected. However, the wealth of side activities and the cooperative mode help extend the game's replayability.

In conclusion, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" is a triumphant sequel that takes the excellence of the first game and elevates it to new heights. The compelling narrative, stunning graphics, and refined gameplay make it a must-play for fans of the superhero genre and gaming enthusiasts in general. The addition of co-op play and the exceptional audio design round out the package, ensuring that Spider-Man 2 is an unforgettable gaming experience. This is a game that not only lives up to the legacy of the web-slinger but also pushes it further into the realm of video game excellence. With great power comes great responsibility, and "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" lives up to both.

Such a spectacular ride.
venuscalico21 October 2023
Perfection In my eyes. I'm autistic, so I'm not great with words. I'll keep it short and simple.

1. Beautiful, stunning and breathtaking graphics. The lighting is gorgeous, the environment in itself is amazing (especially outside during the day).

2. Brilliant story and character development. Not only do the characters stand on their own, they also grow together. I absolutely adore the journey.

3. Fantastic machenics (old&new) are back ... My new favourite addition would be the spider wings. Gliding around New York is such a breeze, and is so satisfying.

4. I love the simple things. Like when you're in combat as Pete, and Mile's joins in to help. It makes me happy.

Definitely 10/10 ... Insomniac have done it again.

It would be a 10 if the game weren't so short
hensonbattier24 October 2023
I have no complaints about the mechanics or story. Action and swinging are very smooth and I love the new symbiote combat moves. On top of that, the story was fantastic. However, when I saw I had 25% of the game completed after my first sitting, I knew that all of these great aspects were going to be short lived.

It has been 5 years since the first game released, and 3 since the "hold-over" Miles Morales game. Suffice it to say, I was able to platinum this game in just 27 hours. For clarification, that means that not only the main story was completed, but every side quest and challenge along with it. I did not skip any cutscenes. Heck, I only even fast traveled a couple times. This is a $70 AAA game.

For comparison, I have not yet achieved platinum on Spider-Man 1, but I have 34 hours logged and only half of the badges (story completed). This game was much shorter in length and had two Spider-Men compared to the first game, where miles morales was an NPC for all but 10 minutes. God of War Ragnarok, another flagship SIE game, takes around 60 hours to platinum and around 40 for the main story alone. The predecessor God of War 4, takes about 26 hours just for the main story.

In conclusion, I was just looking to see more. They intentionally left us hanging with a couple loose ends so they can sell us DLC in the future. I think these should have been integrated as side quests in this game. It is just a shame to see that this game was 5 years in the making and SIE couldn't even put out 30 hours of gameplay. As a lifelong fan of Spider-Man and someone who bought a PS4 just to play the first game, this is kind of a let down. Again, the action and story are wonderful, but I personally don't feel like I got my $70 worth.

A Fantastic Spider-Man Game
alindsayal26 October 2023
Over the last few years Insomniac have released two fantastic Spider-Man games. This has led to much anticipation for the sequel to the original game and its spinoff Miles Morales. I have played through this entire game and here is my review for Spider-Man 2. The premise of the game is set a few years after the original game, both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are Spider-Man and using their powers to help New York but not succeeding in their personal lives. However, the return of an old friend and a new powerful enemy forces them to work together to face their biggest enemies.

Characters Yuri Lowenthal reprises his role as Peter Parker and he is fantastic, to me he is an absolute perfect choice for this video game Spider-Man. He plays the experienced version of the character well and this game pushes him in different ways that the previous one does. He is brilliant here and I think he deserves to be in the same discussion as the iconic film versions of the character. I have even got used to his new face here and I am totally fine with it.

Nadji Jeter also reprises his role as Miles Morales and he is also great in the role. We have really seen his journey over the three games and the chemistry between him and Peter is fantastic. He is given a really interesting story here and it shows a more serious side that maybe his game slightly missed. The game does ebb and flow but it does feel like two equal lead characters and that is fantastic to see.

Laura Bailey is back as Mary Jane Watson and she is once again great in her role. She supports both the Spider-Men really well and they give her a story herself but it doesn't overshadow the main plot and she does the character real justice.

Graham Phillips is here as Harry Osbourne and he is fantastic, it feels like these characters have known each other for years and credit to Phillips who has joined the cast and felt like he has always been there. He also has a really interesting character arc and it follows up really well with what we have been told about him in the previous games.

Jim Pirri plays Kraven The Hunter and I love this portrayal of the character. He is physically intimidating but you see how his mind works throughout the game and what his motivations are for the actions that he takes. He is a great villain that is perfect for the story that is being told here.

Also he was in the trailer so I will say Venom is fantastic when he is used here and that is all I will say.

Story This story is fantastic, it does a fantastic job of showing Peter and Miles in their own difficult situations but also situations that affect both of them in their personal life and as Spider-Man. It weaves characters into the story and provides plenty of emotion throughout with a solid ending here. Personally, I actually think I preferred the story in the first game but that doesn't mean this one isn't fantastic in its own way. Some are arguing that it isn't long enough and I kind of get that, but I think it uses everything effectively and it still took me around 18-20 hours to complete which for me is plenty for a video game.

Side Activities The game has plenty of side content and it is a bit of a mixed bag. There are some excellent side missions, one in particular really hit me and made me realise that the game developers really cared. They also do a really good job of setting up future threats for Peter & Miles which is something a bit fresh here. But the majority of the side missions end up seeing either Spider-Man doing the same activity multiple times and it just gets a bit repetitive. I know most open world games has this but it felt like it here and I wasn't a huge fan of it this time.

Gameplay Insomniac decided to go with a more revolution over evolution of the gameplay. It is pretty similar to what we received in the previous two games. This game is pretty clear that Miles & Peter play differently and it provides fresh gameplay in different activities. It provides fantastic action and web swinging along with the web wings allowed for easier traverse across New York. Also yes the MJ missions are back and at first I sighed but they are way better here and I didn't actually mind them and appreciated that Insomniac decided to improve this factor instead of just getting rid of it.

Graphics This game looks beautiful. The character models are great and I love how both Spider-Men look in their costumes and it is great to see them in action. The other villains also look fantastic with Kraven, Lizard and Venom all being beautifully represented here. It shows New York in a fantastic way and made me care about it, overall it is a great looking game.

Overall Overall, Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic game and one of the best superhero games that has ever been made. It tells an amazing story and manages to showcase both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in a really great way. It falls a little short with its side content and overall length but It is still absolutely worth a purchase and anyone with a PS5 must give it a playthrough.

Rating - 9/10.

Be Greater (Than What Came Before)
alex-0360125 October 2023
Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 is a game that surpasses the adjectives that are commonly part of the Source Material's titles, such as Amazing, Spectacular, Superior, and Ultimate. The development team at Insomniac have taken leaps and bounds to greatly improve on Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales in both the combat and traversal mechanics, adding such new features as Symbiote Combat to make Peter feel just as strong as Miles, while also not feeling completely game-breaking. Speaking of which, the game does something unimaginable: it doesn't nerf both heroes and villains. You can identify the power scaling. As for the story, it is incredibly emotional. You will be stabbed in the chest with the writing, with the voice acting wedging the blade deeper and deeper. Yuri Lowenthal does an outstanding job playing Peter, and properly conveys the emotion that when the Symbiote slowly starts to take control, he becomes more irritable, more emotionally volatile, and more dangerous. Tony Todd was great casting for the Lethal Symbiote. The rest of the cast are just as spectacular.

If anyone at Insomniac Games is by chance reading this, thank you for giving us such great Spider-Man art for years to come. I cannot wait to see what you do with the presumably final installment of the Spider-Man games, and just know you will pull off the Wolverine game we (at time of this review being written October 2023) know very little about.

Greatest Superhero Game Ever Made
jbaar-8913624 October 2023
Spider-Man 2 redefines what it means to be a superhero game. Calling it just a game really does it a disservice. This is one of the greatest Spider-man stories ever told-across film, television, and video games. Both Pete and Miles shine throughout the entire duration of the game.

The emotional moments are as impactful as ever and really go a long in fleshing out this amazing story. The new additions to the roster are all so good and greatly explored. Kraven is such an imposing villain who has plenty of moments to prove his might. His motives are interesting and smartly crafted. His boss fights are some of the best of the entire series. Kraven's story is just so perfectly executed and suffers no flaws. He remains off-screen for the perfect amount of time to build up his character.

Unlike the previous games, the hideouts (hunter blinds in this one) are actually fun to clear out. That's all thanks to the many great new gameplay additions. The webline offers a fun new way of taking on stealth challenges. But, that being said, who in their right mind wants to do stealth missions with all the absolutely amazing new combat additions?! Each new power given to Miles and Pete are just so fun to execute and mix and match with one another.

Even the gadgets in this game are incredibly powerful and just fun to spam and clear out large herds of enemies. Miles' new venom abilities are flashy and fun! Petes new metal arm abilities are flashy and fun! But! Perhaps the most flashy and fun new ability is the symbiote powers. Wow! Just wow! There wasn't a single time throughout my 4 days of gameplay that I got bored of the combat. The moveset was constantly evolving, adding new powers, dealing more damage, and just becoming more fun by the mission.

Oh, and speaking of missions, this game by far had the most fun and engaging ones. Some of the greatest boss fights ever were in this game. The Sandman fight was awesome, the Lizard fight was awesome, the Spider-Men fight was awesome, the Mysterio boss fight was awesome, the Kraven boss fights were awesome, the Scream boss fight was awesome, the Venom boss fight was AWESOME! You get my point, every single mission in this game was better than the last. We thought the first two games revolutionized boss fights? Well, this game isn't even in the same league. It's not even in the same sport.

Never once throughout the countless hours of gameplay did I find myself bored. I was constantly getting my mind blown, constantly feeling my jaw hit the floor, constantly just having an absolutely amazing time with the game in front of me. I was a little hesitant at first when I saw the webwings, as I thought they'd make traversal less fun. Boy do I have to eat my words. The traversal system has been perfected. The webwings are so fun to play around with. All the new tricks you can do while swinging make the game so much more diverse.

It's seriously true when I say that every single aspect of the previous games has been improved upon. Hell, even the MJ missions were fun! Perhaps the most controversial part of the first game became one of the many fun parts of this game. It is so rare nowadays to find a game as perfect as this one. To find a game made by a team of developers that respect the source material as much as this one.

I find myself more excited for the sequel of this game than any other upcoming movie. My only fear is that it may be too difficult to match the greatness of this one. If any other developer can do it, it's Insomniac. Not only is this arguably the greatest superhero game of all time, this is also one of the best video games ever made. This is absolutely deserving of a 10/10 score!

Somehow exceeded my expectations
justuslimpens-9349822 October 2023
This game opens up like the first one, with a massive fight scene. The cinematography was really good in that fight and kept being great in the full game. The new features are a lot of fun and the fighting mechanics are greatly improved. The characters are so cool with Kraven and Venom stealing the show. Open world is more dense and of course bigger with the added map. Traversal is even more fun than in the previous games. The quality of each mission is simply insane, I was stunned that almost every single mission had such high quality. The game may be a bit shorter than the first one but trust me, the missions you get are so so so good. Side missions/activities are also a lot of fun and if you want to go for the platinum trophy you will have a great time! A 10/10 for me and hopefully also for you!

High highs, lower lows
lmathc12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Spider-Man 2 is a mixed bag. While the combat and world traversal brought over from the first game are polished and enhanced and the visuals and mechanics are pushed to the absolute-bleeding edge, much else was lacking. This was primarily evident in the artificiality and milque-toastiness of every side character apart from a select few. Dialogue is mostly just safe, to put it lightly. NPCs blather on about the latest trending social topics, meaning this game will be severely dated in a matter of months. Characters granting side quests frequently come off as plastic and inorganic, largely due to their hyper-sanitized way of speaking about science projects, current issues, and infuriatingly bland topics that have no business being in a Spider-Man game. Additionally, Insomniac seems hell-bent on forcing players to endure several MJ stealth missions (a feature of the previous game that was almost universally despised) as well as a handful of other pedestrian-level side quests that barely even qualify as walking simulators.

On the upside, Kraven and Venom both steal every scene they are allowed to be in through sheer charisma and intimidation. The main story, while occasionally taking obligatory breaks to waste time, is pretty solid as a Spider-Man story goes. Long time fans will have more than enough to be satisfied in terms of respect being given to (most) legacy characters.

Ultimately, I'd recommend a play-through, but it's a far cry from the masterpiece so many seem to think it is.

Disappointing to say the least
Sidious-667 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin with this one; after the first game was such pleasure to experience, I had very high hopes for this game in both story and mechanics. And while this game delivered on the mechanics for the most part; I really enjoyed what they added to traversal and being able to take fall damage and slam into the ground while swinging just feels right (also love the slingshot but it should have been in the first game). Playing in the symbiote suit also feels pretty great but I don't feel we have it for long enough in the story and this is personal preference, but not a fan of the anti-venom suit that is forced on us when using venom surge late game. Overall I really did enjoy the gameplay for the most part and while they didn't add a lot of new features, what they did was very welcome. Now we get to the Problem with this game, namely the Writing! I am not going to get into any of the meta surrounding the narratives in this game, only the story itself, meaning characters, dialog, and pacing. To begin, characters like Peter and Miles are pretty much the same as we left them in the last games, but its clear the focus on development and progression of character is heavily focused on Miles. If you like this, don't let me stop you, but Peter will always be my Spider-man and I don't think I'm alone in that feeling. If anything, these games should have worked to establish Miles very own identity with his own superhero name. Having the two spider-men constantly calling each other spider-man in this game just felt kinda goofy to me. The Villains in this game is where the character writing really struggles. Kraven was completely wasted on a cool scene of him killing scorpion and then getting his head bitten off by Venom. He did very little to actually progress the narrative and we learned nothing about him other than he seemed to be completely irredeemable if his relationship with his family was anything to go by. He could have actually been an interesting antagonist if the writers had even tried. But Kraven was never meant to be the big bad of this game anyway so I can forgive that much easier than what they did with Venom. You hire Tony Todd to play Venom and this is all you do with him? We learn absolutely nothing about Venom as a character in this game. I know they may do a standalone Venom game but after the writing for this one, I have no faith in Insomniacs ability to write a compelling story anymore. The strongest character in the game was probably Norman Osborn and he was only on screen for maybe 10 minutes. Considering the story of the first game was so well crafted and really felt like a love letter to Spider-man fans, you could tell this game was written by different people. The dialog felt like I was watching a bad CW show at times and the pacing was very rushed, especially towards the end. I absolutely love the first Spider-man game and was very hyped for this one but was ultimately left really disappointment with the story. When May dies in the first game I genuinely felt for Peter and his struggle, but playing this game, I felt, nothing.

Absolutely perfect.
truttplaywriting1 November 2023
Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 is not only a technical masterpiece with NO loading screens, but a tour de force of storytelling in interactive media.

Inspired by and combining elements from Raimi's trilogy, Web of Shadows, various comics, and Into the Spider-Verse, the game manages never to feel bloated and never underwhelms. Switching between the two heroes (and other characters!) is seamless, and where Peter tackles more of the A plot, ultimately trying to find balance as a better Peter, Miles pulls a lot of emotional weight in the B plot and side quests as he works to become a better Spider-Man.

I cried multiple times, and the representation and care shown for Miles goes beyond performative and really hit home a few times, especially in his interactions with his mom. I highly recommend this for anyone, even those new to gaming, for one of the most tonally accurate and heartwarming Spider-Man stories put to screen.

This is what AAA gaming should look like! I'm so enamored with games that proves compelling storytelling is only possible in interactive media but can be dramatically enhanced by it. Indie games have done it several times over, but Sony's first-party exclusives (TLOU2 and God of War especially) are really pushing how studios should be developing AAA titles. (Well, narratively at least. Still need to fix the whole deadline crunch labor practices.)

10/10 no notes except to patch a few bugs out please.

Textbook example of how you make a sequel!
kohlton29 October 2023
Spider-Man 2 takes everything that was great about the first game, and expands upon it; bigger map, grander story, more characters, improved mechanics, etc. The game also has spectacular set pieces, and a good variety of missions that help speed up, and slow down the pacing when necessary, including one when you go on the rides, and play carnival games at Coney Island, which is unironically one of my favorites missions in any game ever. Overall, after 100% the game, and achieving the platinum trophy, I can confidently say Spiderman 2 is now one of my all time favorite games; its gameplay is fast, fun, and has the best combat system I've ever experienced. If you're a Spiderman fan, it's definitely worth the money.

Now for the things I don't like: first off, Im not a huge on the wingsuit, as I think it takes the focus off of web slinging - seeing Spiderman soar through the skies like Superman just doesn't feel right... (although, I know Insomniac probably thought it was a necessary addition, to make traversing the larger map easier, especially since there's now a river you have to navigate across) They also brought back the dreaded forced stealth MJ missions from the first game. I know they don't want MJ to be your typical damsel in distress, but giving her an OP taser and forcing you to navigate through enemy territory while neither Spiderman is in sight for assistance, just isn't it... I'm also not a fan of the "Danacast" that returns in this game after being introduced in Miles Morales. I don't care about some random, liberal college student's opinions about what's going on in the story, just give me J. Jonah Jameson.

Performance wise; In my 24+ hours of playing the game so far, I've only suffered from one crash, but there is some gltiches that need to be patched. Like, a pivotal part of the game's narrative was ruined for me, because character models were either completely invisible, or they were just floating heads... (both in cutscenes and gameplay) There's also this really odd bug where your character model is just a small, white box? It tends to happen when switching quickly back and forth between suits.

Finally: Just like the first game, there's no option for New Game+ at launch - although, I heard that its coming before the end of the year - also, there's currently not an option to change the time of day like in the previous 2 games, (not even after beating the story...) which is disappointing. So hopefully they add that, soon, too.

In conclusion, Spiderman 2 isn't perfect, but it's pretty close. 9/10.

Amazing Story, Rushed At The End
Marvo23691 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This game is a very good game. It's thoroughly enjoyable with a well balanced story that shared enough time with both Miles and Peter, developing their own unique stories as well as integrating these into an overarching story that delivers an epic experience, one that can't be forgotten. The action sequences are epic, the scale is huge. The game kicks off with one of the biggest boss fights out of all three games, setting the bar really high with unique gameplay and an amazing cinematic experience. As the story progresses, you can't help but fall in love with how well Insomniac has blended these two characters individual stories together and yet kept them to their own motives.

The story is beautifully crafted and weaves together nicely with no real feeling of random switches, the switches between their missions feel relevant and motivated. The sheer magnitude of the story is impressive and progresses very smoothly and nicely into the Venom storyline, which makes perfect sense in this games world. However, after we are introduced to venom and we begin to explore his motive and storyline towards the end, it becomes very rushed and feels forced, with characters doing random things very suddenly just because it's nearing the end of the game and they have to before it ends. For example, Miles asking Hailey out when the world is ending, feels very sudden and randomly placed as he spends the whole game pining for her anyway. The introduction of Miles' new suit in the final chapters isn't motivated at all - it's very random and almost feels done because the developers felt they had to in order to keep it interesting and fresh, which wasn't needed. If you're going to introduce a new suit, give a reason for it. For example, the Anti suits in both games. They are both there for a reason. There is no context provided for Miles' new suit near the end it just happens, and I take issue with that. We have a rush through of all the venom content - the scream boss fight feels very forced just to pop in a quick cameo (if you're going to do this do it right and flesh it out more) and the whole motive for venom isn't really explained or investigated more than, he wants a rock to take over the world. Some more info on that would have been great.

It almost felt to me that venoms saga needed more development and more chapters. It almost felt like it needed to be it's own separate story and not crammed into the end of the game. It probably would have worked better as an expansion to the game at a later date, like a part 2, which would give the developers more time to explore the various symbiotes and venoms motive. Instead it feels again very quick and I could almost hear the developers saying 'we need to wrap this up now'. Just a few more chapters could have fixed this problem perhaps. The missions toward the end feel very forced and conversations happen at times they probably shouldn't, for example when the world is in danger and people are being killed etc. It just needed more fleshing out.

My second small gripe is the boss fights. Yes, the first one is great. Huge action sequence, love it. However from there on in it becomes very generic. Each boss fight follows the same formula and pattern. You get three rounds to punch them about a bit, and the rest of the action happens through cutscenes. What I loved about the first game was the variety in boss fights. Wether it was pressing different buttons or having to defeat them in a different way than before, it kept it engaging and exciting. This game feels like a monotonous boss run of the same thing over and over. Not much changes. Sure, they throw in a few developments on certain things, but it's mainly the same. They become very boring and by the end you're left wondering what you really did in those fights. My big issue with this is the final boss with venom. Man, you get 4 rounds with the guy and then it's a cutscene to the end. Yeah, he gets defeated in a cutscene. There's not much interaction or involvement with this either. You press a few buttons throughout but it's mainly sitting back and enjoying the show. Compared to the first game where you have to do more to stop Doc Ock, and the boss fight actually evolves throughout, this one is very generic and you're left wondering 'was that it?' To be honest, the first boss fight felt like much more of a 'final boss' than the actual final boss. This brings me onto my next concern.

The game has lots of great cinematic cutscenes. This is amazing. But it's not so amazing when you have no involvement in these scenes and you simply have to just watch them like a movie. These cutscenes are where most of the action takes place. Compared to the first game where you can interact throughout and press buttons or move the joysticks, this game limits you on what you can do. Most of if not all of the important action will happen in a cutscene. You have to sit there and watch it, and then when it's your turn, you do the same repeated pattern of simply beating up some bad guys and then the next cutscene rolls in. Give me more button pressing, give me more to do, make me feel like Spider-Man like I did in the first game! I loved how they incorporated the gamer into the cutscenes and the boss fights, but for some reason they severely reduced that in this one. A shame, because that's what I loved about it. I felt like I was Spider-Man, but in this game, I felt like a guy at the cinema watching a movie instead of being directly involved. That's what I wish for in the next game. More involvement on my end. Don't be afraid to make us do something in those scenes, it will keep us engaged and not looking away from the screen!

Don't get me wrong - this game is a beautiful game and is very well made as always. But what they done so we'll in the first two games, they took away in this one. Please, give it back to us. Make us Spider-Man again. Be greater...

Best superhero game ever!
mitxhq23 October 2023
This game is a masterpiece in ever sense of the word. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous, the voice acting is on point, you can truly feel everyone's emotions, from beginning to end this game is nonstop action with a few missions of the characters lives out side of their superhero lives, and the story is just straight up phenomenal. This game will take you for a roller coaster ride of emotions.

This game has so many twists and surprises that it never at any given point gets boring or do you ever feel like it's dragging on. The game may only be 10 to 15 hours long depending on how you play it but it is so perfectly well done for what it is and does not need to be dragged on although by the end you will be wishing for more!

It absolutely blows the first 2 games out of the water improving on everything adding new gadgets and much more, the combat also feels much better then it's previous games, insomniac has outdone themselves! Spider-Man 2 story wise is 100% in my top 3 best played of all time. This games story rivals that of TLOU and GOWR.

I truly do not understand how people have given this game at 8, I have even seen reviews as low as 4! Please do not believe any bad reviews on this game you are robbing yourself of one jaw dropping masterpiece if you do!

11/10 no questions asked.

GOTY Worthy to the original 2018 Game?
dburris-4593322 October 2023
The game deserves a gold medal! Storytelling at its best? Yes! More exciting things to explore? Absolutely! This is one of the best Spider-Man stories to date in any Spider-Man video game and film history ever. As a Spider-Man fan, I was deeply impressed and moved how grounded this game came to be. Gameplay combat is very fluid and extremely satisfying taking out bad guys with the upgrades you have. I honestly couldn't tell if I was watching a movie or playing a video game cause it was so good and I couldn't put down the controller for sure! Can't wait to see what insomniac has for pt. Three!!

Great game, but wouldn't call it a masterpiece
nagelmackerss27 October 2023
As a long-time fan of the Spider-Man franchise, my expectations were cautiously optimistic when diving into Spider-Man 2. I was met with a familiar experience, which, surprisingly, didn't leave me disappointed in the slightest. The game manages to strike a delicate balance between retaining what we loved about its predecessor and introducing several new features and improvements that keep the franchise fresh.

The game's strong suit remains its exhilarating traversal system. Swinging through the beautifully rendered streets of New York City remains an absolute joy. The physics and animations of Spider-Man's movements are still top-notch, capturing the essence of being a superhero. Combat, too, continues to offer a satisfying mix of fluidity and depth, letting you pull off impressive acrobatics while pummeling foes. The combat, I must say, is excellent.

Graphically, Spider-Man 2 doesn't disappoint. The cityscape is teeming with life and detail, making it a joy to explore. The character models look great, although i don't think they exhibit the same that we saw in the original game. It's almost as if they played it safe in that department.

The game's narrative also doesn't disappoint. It weaves a compelling and emotional story, delving into Peter Parker's life and the complex relationships he juggles as both Spider-Man and a regular citizen.

However, the elephant in the room remains the game's IMDb ratings, which I believe have been inflated beyond what it truly deserves. While Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly a great gaming experience, it's essential to remember that IMDb scores always are being skewed by the overwhelming popularity of superhero-themed games. Comparing it to a perfect masterpiece like The Witcher is an injustice to the latter. The Witcher's intricate storytelling, vast open world, and rich character development set it apart in the realm of gaming. Although Spider-Man 2 is a great game, it shouldn't be near the same score as The Witcher, and it's unfortunate to see it positioned in such proximity.

Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly fun, but let's all be real; it doesn't at all belong on the same pedestal as Geralt's epic adventures.

Spider-Man 2 is undoubtedly a good game, offering a thrilling and engaging experience for fans of the web-slinging superhero. However, it falls just short of reaching the status of a masterpiece. While it successfully captures the essence of being Spider-Man, with its fantastic web-swinging mechanics, engaging combat, and a well-crafted narrative, it doesn't quite break new ground or redefine the gaming medium.

A masterpiece in the gaming world often pushes the boundaries of storytelling, gameplay, and immersion, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. While Spider-Man 2 is a highly enjoyable and well-crafted experience, it doesn't quite reach the same level of innovation or impact as some of the true gaming masterpieces. It's a really good game for fans of the character and the series, but it doesn't rewrite the rules of the medium or set a new gold standard for gaming as a whole.

In conclusion, If you're a Spidey fan looking for more of the same, you'll be satisfied.

Could be better
rasher9913 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This game is full of fun action packed gameplay and brings the fun action swinging momentum we had from the other two games.

However during my experience playing the game I experienced a lot of different annoyances and bugs that didn't ruin the game but have definitely affected the rating I have given the game.

I'll start off with the positives tho.

. Gameplay this is still as good as the other ones I like the action fighting mechanics they're easy to understand and follow and you feel like you can defeat each villain no matter what difficulty you play on.

. Graphics This game has some great graphics and realistic features. The bigger map they created is great to swing around through.

Overall story is great you find your self wanting to play the story and skip the side mission stuff.

These are just some positives that made me give the game a great 8/10.

Now the negatives.

Once again repetitive and sometimes boring side missions and quests.

Constant bugs lagging on the game sometimes, not allowing you to click the button u need to press, sometimes not loading up the mission even tho your at the mission selection point. And my most annoying bug is having to find the spider bugs in the game just seemed unnecessary in the game overall.

I found the fact that each big enemy had 3 stages off life slightly annoying as you feel like you can only hit the villains so many times before they should be destroyed / beaten up.

Overall tho this game has given me hours off non stop action and web swinging action and I hope they sort a few things out for the next one and make that a 10/10 game.

So almost perfect!
cjpseagulls12 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Insomniac have definitely outdone themselves by making a proper sequel to rival even the likes of Arkham City. Everything is improved. Traversal is spectacular with the addition of web wings. Combat and abilities are explored in depth with the creation of gadget upgrades and suit tech. Side missions are (thank the Lord) fun. The story is a perfect 10/10. Insomniac's clever reworking of carnage, venom and Kraken are a sight to behold, adding their own original spins without straying from the source material. We don't see many great sequels, and with companies like Rocksteady moving (hopefully only temporarily!) from the paths they have carved, it is lovely to see such a great game from designers who truly care about what they are doing. An area I think they could improve on is stealth. Various game mechanics are criminally underutilized by not making stealth necessary like areas of Marvel's Spider-Man. I know some people don't enjoy it but I believe that it could really add some variation to missions. The only other complaint is some bugs, various pop-in, people falling through the floor, etc. In conclusion, this is an incredible game that I am sure will be made perfect in the coming months, it would be a crime not to play it.

Your friendly neighborhood arachnids
ThunderKing629 October 2023
It's Spiderman and Spiderman. Teamed up to be Spidermen.

October 29th 2023rd.

Played on the best console ever.

What is this game Spiderman 2 about?:

It's about Spiderman and Spiderman trying to save the city and their lives from villains. The story is pretty basic.

Genre:

Superhero, action, fighting

Duration:

15 hours if you don't have a job. If you have a job, it can take you 3 weeks to finish the main story.

The story and the production overview:

Though a basic story, the gameplay and wicked effects make up for it. It was so cool being Spiderman and Spiderman and zipping around New York City.

The graphics are good, though it can get repetitive, I had a blast playing as the Spidermen.

Also, the voice work and character designs of likes of Miles were not the best choice. Probably because Miles movies voice work and designs are a staple in my head and that's all i know because those movies are cool.

Overall fun game for the nerds and gamers.

Moral:

With great power comes great responsibility.

Saving the rejects of NYC for free must be really fulfilling.

Rating:

I like it.

Final Words:

1 spider... 2 spider - Spidermen.
