While discussing Shawn's hand-to-temple move, he and Gus discuss whether Simon Baker does it or not (he doesn't), after which Shawn quips: "Well, at least we have that." This is the latest in a series of jokes calling out CBS fake-psychic show (and shameless "Psych" rip-off) "The Mentalist." The writers make frequent Mentalist joked to highlight the fact that "Psych" had the idea first.
Shawn refers to J.T. Waring's (i.e., Arnold Vosloo's) "Billy Zane-ian qualities." This may be a nod to the popular misconception that Billy Zane was the actor who portrayed High Priest Imhotep in the movie The Mummy Returns (2001), when it was actually Arnold Vosloo. It could also refer to a 2005 Charlie Rose interview where Rose commented on Arnold Vosloo's resemblance to Zane and Vosloo remarking that people ask him if he was the guy from Titanic and he answers affirmatively.
